Chapter 10 - Halloween arc-assassination attempt no.1

~Mikado's Point of view~

I expected today to be less...eventful. A day where I could solely focus on my own selfish desires:video games. Yes, I admit. I am a complete game addict as well as geek or nerd, whatever you prefer, about technology. I guess you could say I am a technician, a mechanic and in general, good at fixing and building things. With the right parts of course.

So, I got up early today, namely 6am. Yes, I wake up at an absurdly early time but I do not have time to spare nor waste. Hurriedly, I rushed to the quite empty kitchen and stuffed some form of food in my mouth before rushing back upstairs to play my video games and complete my desire for my other hobbies. Annoyingly, my perfectly planned day got ruined by those three...people. I don't know what to call them. Friends? Or idiots? Or...imbeciles?Or fiancé candidates? See, not sure in the slightest.

It was 8am, right in the middle of an important moment in Horizon Zero dawn when ding ding, the bell rang. Before I continue, let me explain the place where I live and how it...functions.

So, the place I live is in a manor that belongs to the Shibuya family although it's not the 'headquarter' if you understand what I am saying. The manor is a place where only the children of the main family could live and live together. Unless instructed otherwise, you shall and will live there, if you don't already. At the moment, Kosuke is in Japan, the leader of the Japanese branch of the company. Only 20 and already such an important position. Then there's Mikano and Mika, my triplets. Mikano returned from Japan a week ago or so, maybe more now that Halloween has gratefully passed. Mika was sent to Switzerland to go to a specialised school for doctors. She's somewhat of an annoying prodigy and wants to become a miracle surgeon, scientists, whatever you call it. Mikano was sent to Japan because that was the best school system, my parents' words. However, she was also sent to 'work' there and I don't think she did a good job. Then, there is me, the accident that was never supposed to happen. Yes, I am surprisingly also a prodigy however, I prefer being...inconspicuous about it, to keep up this charade that I hate and dearest with all my heart. After me, is Shiro. He is my younger brother and unfortunately, quite a sickly child so half the time he is in the hospital for checkups and half the time here, doing homeschooling. Now, that is how my family functions, not the actual house.

The actual house is pretty much half machine half bricks and pipe and cables if you ask me. It has a self defence system, many cameras, hidden microphones, secret bases, hand identification rooms and then more discreet and secret rooms and other shenanigans that I myself do not even thoroughly know of although I have some inkling.

Now, back to the original story. At 8am, I saw the wonderful jolly faces of my three new….friends? Bennett, Noah and the totally-oblivious-to-the-murderous-aura, Adrian. Yes, I was flowering and glaring without self resistance. He destroyed me! I died in that game because of him! I had to start all over again now to hunt and destroy that machine to smithereens! God damn him! Noah was quite nervous and looked quite uncomfortable as we sat in silence except for Adrina's annoying humming. I don't blame him. I would be just as uncomfortable with the murder us aura but I was not because that murderous aura was being emitted by me. And Bennett, he seemed all cool as a cucumber and for some reason, that also vexed me. Just a tiny little bit.

"So...what were your plans for today?"Adrian asked me, humming a happy tune.

"Nothing that concerns you!"I snapped back angrily, glaring with ice in my eyes.

"Well...we have plans and though you would be honoured to be part of them."he said dramatically, putting on airs that made me puke at them inwardly. Noah and Bennet just rolled their eyes, also kind of fed up with Adrian's usually theatrics but what can you do? If it's the only way he can speak, you can only cope with it and listen, sadly.

"What Adrian is trying to say, would you like to spend Halloween with us tonight?"Bennett said hurriedly, turning a bit pink. I cackled inside my head gleefully at his embarrassed state. "Why of course I wouldn't mind."I started and Noah sighed in relief with Adrian "however, I may choose the last activity for the day. You three probably had the day...planned?"and they nodded in conformation. "Well, I would prefer if I could choose an activity to do as well". Remember, be sweet, kind, innocent, everything I am not. The three looked at each other and nodded. I wish I could do that. "No problem."Noah said reassuringly with a smile. I smiled in return, making him blush as well. Too easy. Adrian is just the hard nut to crack. And I don't mean kicking him where the sun doesn't shine.

So, at 3pm, we went to a haunted amusement park per Adrian's childish request. I guess it wasn't too bad. The rides were a lot of fun and the cotton candy? Delicious. And then there was also apple bobbing, target shooting that I had to fake to be very bad at might I add and then a whole range of activities. We spent not too long there, an hour or two. Then, it was the activity Noah chose. Future/tarot card/psychic reading.

To me, it all smelt nothing but fake fake fake. Poor Noah believed the...future teller and was scared stiff when she said that his life would take a horrible turn, a loved one would be hurt today. Well, for me, she said "ah. One of the young heirs from the Shibuya's. Well well well. I never expected to see you here, Mikado". F.y.i, I have had previous encounters with her so...stuff happened:tea. "It has been a long time, Nancy."I replied in a cool voice and pursed lips. "I came here because of Noah Wallace-Brooks. He wanted the tarot card reading."I replied with a fake smile that she fully returned with one of her own. "Now, that makes more sense".

She started doing some weird stuff with the crystal ball, then made me pull tarot cards and then, she came to a conclusion with a gasp. "People are trying to kill you Mikado. Dangerous people that are close to you yet distant. People that envy you for what you have. Be prepared for they shall attack you tonight". Noah was frozen stuff once more, Adrian gulped nervously and Bennett? Well, he had this weird gleam in his eyes. "I tried my best to smile when I really wanted to just sneer, insult her and leave. Yes, I definitely hate her. "Well, that is a very ominous reading. I will look forward to this evening then."I said before starting to leave.

"Mikado."she called out. "Remember, I have warned you of what you seeked so be prepared". Naturally, I ignored her but then I also didn't. What she said, I couldn't help but feel it was true. For some time now, there has been this murderous aura following me around in school, not my own nor Bennett's, Noah's or Adrian's. I couldn't help but swallow nervously whilst a million of thoughts rushed through my head.

When we walked our way to Bennett's idea, exploring a graveyard, we were all silent and gloomy. Not because we were about to enter burial grounds but because of our readings. Mine was I might be killed tonight or the near future. Adrian's was that he would be in jail for killing somebody. Bennett would become insane because somebody was killed and you know Noah's: somebody dear to him would be killed. Very ominous indeed and strangely enough, all of our readings are related to death. Hypothetically, if all this is true, it means something bad is going to happen, really really something. Something really bad and really big that will decide our futures, whether we live or die. Whether we live without sins or get sent to jail because of them. Whether we trust each other or not.

After an hour of walking, we reached the graveyard. It was properly dark now yet it was only 5pm. Time is really cut short when it starts nearing winter and Christmas.

"Well...here we are."announced Bennett.

"Wow. The local people have really intensified its creepiness."commented Noah, gulping nervously as he watched the graveyard swirl around in the mist, making it nearly impossible to see! "So, what is our aim?"asked Adrian as he stared ahead, squinting his eyes. Suddenly, we heard screams and then saw young kids running out of there. All four of us looked at each other and again, swallowed down a nervous lump in our throats. "The aim of the game is to survive. You will each pick a different route and across the paths, obstacles will appear. People will be holding joke knives that are not harmful so it's a bit like a zombie apocalypse you could say. If you bye paint on you, you are out and eliminated from the game. Please leave a name and address. The aim is for whoever escapes the quickest without paint on them by overcoming the obstacles."I read out from the sign that hung lopsidedly on the metal archway where dead roses hung down. "Well...what are we waiting for?"Bennet asked with a raised eyebrow before stepping into the graveyard, letting the mist swallow him. Noah bravely went next, well, ran after Bennett and vanished from sight. Me and Adrian glared at each other, a staring contest that I happily won so he went next. Then, it was finally my turn. One more wary glance around and I jumped through the mist, letting it swallow me up from sight.

So, I know. Not Halloween yet but I need to use it for the story to work. Please forgive my imprudence. Lol, did I use that right? Anyway, it's not so much about appreciation and life long lessons anymore however, there is one secretly in here. Festivities are always more fun to celebrate with friends. They get to laugh, making you laugh. They get to share the feeling of fear with you or laughter at you instead. Well, that's not so fun but what's the harm with a few scaring pranks hmm? I myself have never been to a Halloween amusement park yet but I have gone to a graveyard but mainly to visit deceased relatives. I have too much respect for the dead to disturb them on Halloween.

I guess that's another lesson, respect the deceased. Now, I am not a religious believer but I do believe we must respect the dead and let them 'rest in peace'. That is one strong belief I have and not to disturb them for any festivities. I guess that's all for today. The next chapter will be written in all four of their point of views. It will be like that but still, it will be mainly in Mikado's point of view but not in the very beginning though.

See you soon and 😉 enjoy.
