"Amelia."
Drystan's voice wakes me up immediately. I groan moving from my position against the door into a sitting one. I rubbed the sleepiness in my eyes away.
"Where are we?" I moan out, squinting from the bright lights around me.
" Charlotte, It's ten o'clock. Are you hungry? " he asks, scrolling through his phone. We were at the edge of my Father's territory. I guess I didn't respond quick enough so he turns to look at me.
"Yes." I answer. He looks at me expectantly. "Everything is closed though."
" I can have them stay open for a few more minutes. " he states gazing out the window.
"No it's fine, What do you want?" I ask watching him beside me. He had removed his suit coat and hung it on the seat in front of him. His muscular arms were crossed over his chest stretching the fabric of his dress shirt. Drystan's head was turned towards the window his face being illuminated by the street lights.
He turns to me and shrugs his shoulders. His eyes searching my own.
"We can get sandwiches and chips from Publix." I announce. Drystan nods his head and rolls down the window to tell the driver. The driver pulls off on to a separate road and begins the drive to the store. I watch Drystan on the drive there. He was obviously frustrated. I don't know if it was from hunger or just sexual frustration. My eyes slowly graze across his body and facial features. I don't think he knew I was watching him so intensely. He was too buried in his own thoughts to pay attention to anything around him. He looked anxious and upset, though I don't know why. We'd been fine the whole car ride.
"Drystan?" He snaps out of his thoughts and turns to me. His eyes were red as if he was tired. "Are you angry at me for what I did?"
He sighs and looks out the window. "No, just hurt." I nod my head at his response, it wasn't what I had expected somehow it was worse. We pull up to the front of the store and Drystan steps out first coming to my side to open the door. He holds out his hand for me to take, I do so gently but not before grabbing my purse. Once on the asphalt, I let go of him and walk into the store ahead of him. The automatic doors open and I immediately walk over towards the flowers. It was something I did every time I came here. My eyes wander over the crazy daisys, roses, and baby's breath. A smile forms on my face when I see a bouquet of sunflowers and baby's breath.
I reach out for them and bury my face into the flowers. They smelled like heaven to me. Drystan walks up behind me.
"Do you want them?" He asks. I turn around to him and smile shaking my head.
"I'll buy them myself." Drystan walks up to me and takes them out of my hands placing it in the basket he brought. I turn around and walk towards the deli.
"What do you want?" I ask as we reach the bakery/deli area. " They have sushi, salads, and sandwiches."
"Do you want cake?" He asks eyeing the large chocolate cake in the center of the bakery. I nod my head and he walks over to get it. While he gets the cake I grab a two Cubans and two sushi plates for myself. Drystan makes his way over to me and takes the food out of my hands before placing it in the cart.
"You'll crush the flowers." I gasp grabbing his hand. I take the flowers and hold them in my arms the rest of the time. We make our way to the checkout line after fifteen minutes of my complaining about how he wouldn't let me hold or carry anything. He never spoke to me he just have me a look that meant 'Shut the fuck up, I don't care'.
I made sure to get the driver something to eat as well. Including a large black coffee and a lifelong supply of gum. We stood there as an older lady checked out our food.
"Y'all are a beautiful couple." She compliments. An unintentional blush creeps onto my cheeks as a small smile forms on my face.
"Thank you." We say in unison. I look up at Drystan to see a smile on his face in…. I don't even know how long. His eyes twinkle under his thick lashes in the store lights above us.
'wow' I silently think.
"Your total is one hundred dollars exactly." She announces with a smile on her face. I walk up to the counter wallet in hand but Drystan pushes me aside handing her a bill before I could even stop him.
"Drystan!" I pout angrily. He tilts his head to the side, a smidge of amusement in his eyes. Drystan loads up the cart not allowing me to touch anything, making me feel worse than I already did. The lady leans across the counter and hands me my flowers before whispering to me.
"That one's special hon. Men don't act like that anymore."
Drystan could hear her but he didn't turn around. I smile at her before saying a soft. "Have a nice night."
" You too honey "
Once outside the driver pulls up. I grab the items we bought him and hand them to him through the window. He smiles at me and thanks me.
"Don't thank me for something like that." I shake my head. " But you're very welcome. "
Drystan places the food in the car while I crawl in on the other side immediately digging through the bags.
"What do you want first?" I ask. Drystan reaches into the bag and I slap his hand away. He sighs before speaking up. " The salad. " I fumble through the bags and hand him hid salad along with a fork and a napkin.
"Thank you. "
"You're welcome. Thank you for the food. " I mumble.
"You're welcome."
" Can we finish eating at a park or something? " I ask. Drystan looks up at me. "That way we can peacefully eat and the driver gets time to drink and eat too. He nods his head before telling the drive to drive the nearest park. The driver pulls out of the parking lot and begins the drive.
" Put on your seat belt. " he growls.
"But it's only down the road." I complain. Drystan's eyes just look at me and then the buckle.
"Put it on."
I sigh buckling myself in.
Dalton finishes his salad by the time we reach the park. I grab the bags of food before Drystan can get them, opening the door with my free finger and running to the nearest wooden swing set. I place the bags in the middle of the seat and start eating my sandwiches. It was dark outside, the lights around us were the only thing preventing us from being in total darkness. Drystan comes and sits down beside me pushing the swing with his heels. We sit there in silence eating our until he speaks.
"Why didn't you pull the trigger?"
I freeze completely. My heart drops at his sudden question. I slowly turn to look at him to find him already staring at me. He waits patiently as I form the thoughts in my head.
"I- I " a loud sigh leaves me. "Because I loved you."
Drystan watches me try my best not to let the tears stream down my face.
"Loved?" He asks in his velvety voice. I nod my head yes and he looks away from me at the pond in front of us. The sky reflecting in the pond, the stars and moon clearly visible in it "I loved you too."
" I still love you Amelia. " he whispers.
