Chapter 1 - Call me clumsy

The buzz of excitement fills the air as the celebrities draw closer into the crowd. What would you expect during one of the biggest events of the year:

The 2019 Video music awards.

Nervousness overrides my system. I have never been this close to glamour in my entire life.

I haven't worn any shoe this high and this uncomfortable ever.

Heels?

Seriously. Who invented these death machine? Maybe they are the reason woman have been held back for so long.

I haven't been able to take a good shot of a single celebrity tonight because of how nervous I am. And that fact makes me more nervous than I originally was.

My knuckles whiten as I grab hold of the camera I had saved for. Much depended on this. I needed the money, bad.

"Camila! Camila!" The handful of photographers roared.

There she was. The one and only Camila Cabello, an epitome of perfection. And here I am, a complete mess.

I shakily took a few shots.

I seriously need to stop this. What am I afraid of?

I take a look of a few photo's.

Blurry, blurry, all blurry.

I'm screwed.

Wait, there is still hope. Quite a bit managed to look okay. Her good looks saved a large part of the pictures. So this meant I was safe...for now.

The next couple of celebrities approached and I began to feel overwhelmed. I had idolised some of this people since I was in diapers.

Bebe Rexha.

Ariana Grande.

Gigi Hadid.

Taylor Swift?

Gosh. How are the rest of the photographers so calm because if someone doesn't hold me back, I'll fan girl all over their butts.

Shawn Mendes approached.

He was dressed in a turquoise dress suit.

While taking a few photo's, a boom of screaming came from the background. A swam of teenage girl's approached, some in tears, joy, admiration. But I guess some just wanted to make unnecessary noise.

I easily managed to get great pictures of him. He gave a confident smile, a one he knew he looked charming in. A smile he had probably used a million times.

Though I couldn't help but hope he'd move because of all the commotion he was causing. Not to mention how high he caused the levels of hormones to fly in the air.

I never really was a big fan of his music. I just knew a few of his songs. I knew what I needed to know.

As the crazed fans drew closer, I felt obliged to draw away.

As I shoved my way inches closer, I couldn't help but notice the snide, dirty looks I managed to acquire from the rest of the photographers.

But I didn't mind. I just needed to get away from the fans.

I 'delicately' made my way ahead, holding my camera and supplies close to my heart.

I lay down my equipment while tugging my dark locks behind my ears.

I reach for my camera and on my way back up I received a bump from behind.

That would be alright under any diffrent circumstance. But me, and being unfimilliar with heels put me in a whole diffrent situation.

And just before I could comprehend what was happen I myself heading to the floor. Everything went in slow motion.

I was so paralysed with shock, I didn't even realised I had already hit the floor.

I look up to see everyone looking down at me.

The photographers, the models, the fans...

Shawn Mendes.

He shot a smug look my way and grinned.

"Need a hand there, Clumsy?" His pearly whites practically blinding me.

"I...um," I stood up quickly, dusting invisible specks of dust off my jeans.

His grin widened.

"Hand? No thanks." I said before pushing my way back, dragging my equipment along while everyone silently watched me.

I'm a complete and utter mess.

×××

After my great fall, I actually managed to make it out alive.

Not a lot of people recognised me during the most embarrassing moment of my life. They were to busy idolising people and enjoying the performances.

Many music icons performed and I easily began feeling the tension slowly easing of my shoulders

And more good news follows. I got rid of those heels. Thank goodness I had my trusty back-up shoes and I soon felt less constricted.

I spotted a number of celebrities within the crowd and asked them permission to take some photo's.

Soon after, unfavourably for me, Shawn had to perform. I couldn't subside the knot forming in the pit of my stomach as I recalled the moment before this.

Just looking at him made me cringe.

I remember the mocking smirk he gave. The glint in his eyes. The whole smug in his face. I could have washed that look of his face with a washcloth if I could.

I know he wasn't a bad guy but,

I just don't know.

He was performing a song which I wasn't really fimiliar with.

Again, I was never a fan.

But I did enjoy the performance and the which I think went like:

'Everything means nothing if I can't have you.'

He had an angel like voice and his hands magically working it's way around the guitar.

I took a snap and the flash unexpectedly, inconceivabley, unforgivingly caught his attention.

Our eyes met.

For those very few moments I swear, I would have died.

Maintaining eye contact with a person like Shawn the one and only Mendes, was very incredible.

The look he gave could show that he still remembered me and my "little incident" and that made me blush a little.

But why would he still remember, especially now when the floor is not decorated with my face?

He gave a smile, looked down at the guitar and looked up again straight ahead.

Woah. I am never looking striaght into the eyes of a public figure ever again. My legs went all fumbly. As if I was walking on jello.

I'm not very used to being noticed, especially by him.

Many people are dying to be this close to him or to even be merely looked by him.

The excitement went on during the event. Songs were sang and history was made.

It was awesome seeing Taylor perform and meeting some celebrities personally backstage.

At least one good thing came with this job.

A performance of señorita was done and

It

Was

Super

Cute.

I have heard of them being an item and all but looking at it live and direct just made me love the idea of love.

I mean, it was romantic.

There were stars in my eyes and my heart was in my mouth.

They were so darn cute!

But I couldn't help but keep noticing that they looked more like siblings more than lovers.

But kiss made the whole show for me.

I had to get a photo of them backstage. Especially because of their popularity. They are probably the couple of the year - No, couple of the century.

I rushed backstage during their performance.

"Here, Camila! Shawn." I called for them before they were off.

They struck their poses like they have probably done before and I snapped away.

This was the best picture I had taken all night. This was the money maker.

Looking at them made me feel thankful that couples like them still exist in the world and that maybe tonight wouldn't be to bad.
