Chandler's POV
Chandria did not talk all the way to her house yesterday, which is unusual. I asked her why, all she had said were three words: I'm just tired. So, I just believe her.
I also brought up the topic of my plan to go to the beach. She just nodded and slept. I don't know what was wrong with my noisy sister.
I decided to go, though. And honestly, I had planned everything: the time, the stuffs and the stopovers. I also put extra shirts if Ken wants to bathe. Yeah, it's not summer anymore but she loves water so much, just thinking of possibilities.
I just think to start helping her remember and making new memories at the same time. If she couldn't remember everything, then I won't insist. It's her that I love, not her memories. I will love her, with or without memories. I hope all goes well today.
Well, let's start this day with calling her. I fished out my phone--as I closed the main gate--and dialed her number.
It takes a few rings before she answered. "Yes?" She seems like half asleep? I looked at my watch, it's only 6:39 am. I guess I got super excited about the trip, I didn't realize it is still early.
"Chan? Why did you call?"
"Oh, yeah. I know it's still early, and sorry if I bothered your sleep, had I?"
"Honestly, yes. But it's okay, I'll just walk. Why did you call?"
"Would you like to go to the beach?"
"Hmm. Wait, I'll ask them." I can't hear anything, maybe she holds the call.
I wish she would go with me.
Then, I heard her voice again. "Okay. What's the plan?" It occurred to me that it's the voice I miss for months. The voice I wish would say I love you.
I take a deep breath before answering, "I'll pick you up by now. Don't worry I am still in the house. Don't rush yourself. Take your time, babe."
"Alright then, goodbye." She hung up the call before I could say I missed her.
Everyday, I miss her. I miss the same person who has lost her memories. And I hope--even if she has lost her memories--her feelings for me would still be in her heart, somewhere deeply in her heart.
I looked up at the sky. The sun is showing up again. It made me smile because I realized that no matter how long the darkness settles on earth, the sun will always shine again and will be a sign for another chance. Just like the sadness I feel because my love can't recognize me, but I know someday I will feel her love for me again.
This is the kind of pain that time could not instantly mend.
I sighed and walked to the driver's seat. I slid behind the wheel.
I saw our pictures hanging on the string above the windshield. Her smile, I will make sure that I'd be the cause of those. Just so you wait, my love.
*
I arrived at their house by 7:00 am. 10 minutes afar from my condominium. I knocked the door and it swung open by her parents. "Good morning po." I greeted.
"Magandang umaga rin, Hijo. Nag-hahanda pa lang si Ken. Pasok ka muna." Bati ni Tito.
"Sige po."
They lead me to their living room. There are few changes in here but the simplicity and elegance still remain.
It's pretty much a long time since my last visit here. Before her birthday, before the accident. I couldn't stop blaming myself, especially when I think it supposed to be her special day.
Tito stand next to me, "You okay?" He asked. Apparently, not okay but must set aside the repentance for now and be strong for them, especially for her.
"I'm fine, Tito." I lied.
"Have a seat. Don't you wanna sit?"
"Oh, yes. Thank you po. Kayo rin po."
"I'm alright with standing up. Maiwan muna kita, Hijo. Tawag-in ko na si Ken."
"Okay po." I answered then Tito headed upstairs.
I shift uncomfortably while sitting here. I was excited earlier, but now I'm nervous. I don't know why.
"Chan?" Ken called out behind me. Then, I turned and saw her. It seems like everything around us fade. Her hair is lifted by the wind and her aura is shining. I slowly stood and watched her walk toward me. She then look at me and smiled, a smile that could light up the whole house.
She wears a white blouse and a pair of fitted jeans, her shoes are pure white. Her hair is loose and she doesn't wear any make up on her face, but I assure you, she's more beautiful than any pretty actress in the world.
I felt Tito nudged me, I did not see him beside me. "Close your mouth, you're drooling." He whispered to my ear.
I came back to my senses and closed my mouth and remove the dust from my white sleeves.
I saw her giggled and I almost fell over if wasn't for Tito. "Uh, let's go?" I stuttered.
Tito now stands beside Tita. I don't see them moving, to be honest.
"Yeah, let's go."
I faced her parents, "I-ingatan ko po itong anak niyo. Salamat po sa pagpayag. Paalam po." I bowed my head slightly.
"Ingat-an mo talaga iyan kundi malalagot ka sa amin." Saad naman ni Tita.
"Sige ingat kayo. Enjoy!"
I offered my hand to Ken and she accepted it. I interlock our fingers and we walk towards the car outside.
I suddenly feel giddy and wish this could last forever.
