I knew it was autumn, but the rain still felt colder than normal. And I hated the rain. Maybe it was because it made me cold and queasy, or because it made the atmosphere dull and dreary, or maybe it was because it signified bad endings for me.
Like the night dad left in an Uber and never came back.
It had been in the middle of summer, but it had rained that night like the world was ending. And the world really did end. Maybe not for everyone else, but it ended for Mom and I.
