In almost an hour, a long hot shower and a steaming bowl of leftover spaghetti had been in cue for Scarlett and she dropped her plates in the dishwasher, then headed into her room to rest for a little while before checking in with Raphael—her driver.

The apartment had three rooms and a large living-room area with a TV that took the entire width of the wall. Two black comfy-looking couches and a recliner were arranged around an obsidian glass coffee table, and the kitchen stood to the far end of the living room, all white and spotless like it was never in use—which it almost never was.

Scarlett's room was the dullest in the entire place, with all white walls and black curtains. Her bed spread was the same shade of white and black, the only colour in the room being the small multicoloured decorative throw pillows strewn across the bed.
