Chapter 7 - The Interrigation

Verica looked to William, tears falling to the cold hard floor. William simply glared at her, waiting for her to speak. "I'll only ask this once more: What were the rebels doing on Polis Massa?" He said sternly, causing Verica to cower slightly away. William groaned, grabbing her by her wrist and pulling her up from her cell's bench. She yelped, the pain his hand was exerting on her was unbearable, given that she was already weak. He dragged her to one of the walls where a circular port was present. He pulled out the cylinder and shoved it in, the port activating and shifting around, reading the cylinder.

Once it had done its work, two restraints emerged from the wall and opened. William then took the wrist he was crushing and placed it in one of the restraints, the metal clamping around her wrist. He then took the other wrist and repeated the process. Verica simply cried the whole time, too weak and scared to fight back. Once she was hung up, she was sobbing, gasping for air after a few moments of whimpering.

"You will tell me what I want to know eventually. The Empire has ways of extracting information." William got up in her face, speaking through clenched teeth. "You can either talk to me, or a droid. I told my subordinate that it was not necessary, but I can easily rectify that. Now, Talk!" William pinched the wall to her side, making a fist like imprint. The groaning of the metal startled Verica, and she tried to move away from where he had punched the wall.

"Alright, I'll talk! I'll talk." She answered through wails. William backed up momentarily so she could compose herself, her breathing becoming more steady and her tears were starting to subside. "We were at Polis Massa because one of our more powerful allies gave us the base." She sniffled. "He had said it wouldn't be that big of a deal to the Empire, but the base would be a strategic outpost. That was all."

William turned away, rubbing his chin. 'This is certainly an interesting development. A powerful ally who had a base on Polis Massa? I wonder who exactly that could be.' William thought to himself before turning back to his prisoner. "Obviously that base was more than a strategic outpost. There was a treasure trove of intel we pulled after storming the command center." He then got closer to her, forcing her to turn her head so she didn't have to stare directly into his hate filled eyes. There was also that data disc I took off your hands. Care to explain?"

"I honestly didn't know a lot, I swear. I may have been the commanding officer's daughter, but there was a lot I wasn't allowed access to. All I know is that the data on the disc I had required a pass code of sorts, and only my father knew the code." She quickly said, tears beginning to flow from her eyes once more. She didn't want to die, but she knew that was inevitable. William sighed, backing away from Verica's personal space, allowing her to breathe easier, if only a little.

"Who was your father?" William asked, looking at her from the center of the cell.

"My father..." Verica was slightly confused. This man was interested in the commander of the Polis Massa base, but his subordinate was interested in her mother, and already knew her name. Why would the leader be asking a question he should already know the answer to? "He was an important Republic captain, but when the Empire came to power, he retired. He and my mother left Imperial space when she was still pregnant with me..." She looked to the floor, distraught. "I've been with him since the day I was born. My mom left to fight in the rising rebellion, and soon after I was of age, my father and I joined the growing Alliance."

William's eyes widened at the mention of an Alliance. 'An Alliance of Rebels? The whole reason I exist is to hunt these scum and there's a whole Alliance of them? Why haven't I been sent to eradicate them? I could easily do it.' He cleared his throat. "So, the disc you had needs a code, but some of the information from the terminals didn't need a code. Did you go snooping in those?"

At this point, Verica had calmed down. her cheeks were streaked from her tears, and she was slightly squinting due to how itchy her eyes felt. "Eh, yeah. most of it was just, like, who was stationed at the base, the data on some suspected CIS bases left abandoned, and the history of the station." her breathing was labored due to her hanging from her wrists, and she began to struggle against her restraints slightly, wanting to come down. William noticed this, and after calming down himself, sighed.

"If I let you out, you sit on the bench and tell me about the history of the base." William said, and Verica nodded furiously. Will put his cylinder into the port, and the binding popped open, Verica dropping to her knees due to not being fully prepared to be freed. She rubbed her wrists, which had the slight imprint of the bindings, and looked to William, who glared back at her. She complied with the request and sat on the bench, breathing easier. From what other rebels had told her, this was surprisingly less terrifying than she had envisioned.

"So the history of the base we were given..." She leaned against the cold wall, looking up to the bland grey ceiling. "It was actually a medical facility not long ago, but the original owner shut it down not long after an incident. He then allowed the rebels to have it, since at the time Imperial intelligence had believed it to be just a simple asteroid. Then, over time, the base became an outpost for scouting out possible locations for new bases, though it was mostly quiet." She stopped rubbing her wrists, and watched as William moved to face her.

"Alright, now tell me about the CIS bases." He was ordered by Lord Vader not to read any of the data residing on the terminals, although he didn't know why.

"Yes, there were about three possible CIS bases that were considered to be new bases. One was an old buried droid factory on Geonosis, one was one of the pit cities on Utapau that had an interesting device that covered the entrance of the hole, and the last one..." she looked to the side, groaning slightly. "...I can't remember the planet, but it was simply labeled as 'The Vault"." she looked back to her captor.

"And that is all you know?" He looked at her, his face appearing more at ease now that Verica was cooperating. She gave him a nod. He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Alright, you're going to be staying with us for a bit. Try and get comfortable." William walked to the exit, the door sliding open. As he stepped out, he looked to the two soldiers, nodding to them. Their helmets made a loud static sound, and as the door slid shut, Verica saw them walking away with him. She lifted her legs up onto the bench and hugged her legs, putting her head on her knees.
