Chapter 25 - Infiltration

Raymond had first jumped to the subway and appeared right in one of the public washrooms. He breathed a sigh when he found it empty. The last thing he wanted was not being able to bend the laws of physic and occupy the same space as another human. It would have been painful if not outright kill him.

He got out and headed for the next train. Half an hour later he was at the end line and got out. Outside he took a taxi; good thing he remembered his wallet and spent his last twenty before being dropped roughly 300 meters away from his destination.

The rest he would do it on foot, it was better than listening to that asshole tell him what he could or couldn't do. The base itself looked militaristic complete with guard towers. In his mind he couldn't fathom how such a structure would be missed the government, wasn't it illegal to build an army or maybe they had the government in their pockets.

The base was also in the middle of a forest, and he immediately realized his plan sounded less and less crazy by the minute. After couple of minutes trek into the woods, and he heard voices, four to be exact. His heart thumped so loudly he could hear it over everything else.

Freezing in place, he followed the sounds to around thirty meters away, luckily for him, they weren't facing his direction and neither did they have his enhanced senses, they were definitely humans then. He backed away slowly and headed towards the road until he was sure they wouldn't see him and dropped down on his left knee.

Maybe Bob was right, this mission was stupid and suicidal, but the thought of leaving his friend who not only saved his life, but he did it four times if he could recall and twice just last week alone. As much as he hated it, he didn't like owing anyone anything, friend or not; it's how he was raised.

Switching tactics, he dropped the other knee to the ground and sat back on his legs. He closed his eyes and without skipping a beat, jumped out of his body again. He was getting really good at it, a quick search on the net for the out of body experience earlier yesterday, he came up with astral projection.

Even he had to admit to himself. It was cool. Facing the direction of where he knew the base was, he decided to run, and he immediately felt his conscious move rapidly forward and approached the unsuspecting guards who were talking about an incident that happened that morning. He chuckled and imagined what they would do if they realized one of the targets was trying to sneak past them and into their base.

Before leaving the soldiers behind, an idea came to him. If they had soldiers doing patrols, then they probably had cameras strategically placed all over the forest to give them a tactical advantage over an intruding force. His heart skipped a beat as he imagined they probably saw him and were silently advancing on his vulnerable body.

He almost ran back but realized he was just being paranoid; if they knew he was there then these four guards would've been alerted as they were the closest to his location; that is unless he missed another squad back there.

That would be impossible considering the amount of adrenaline pumping through his body; he would have picked up anything larger than a mouse, honestly. His mission was still operable, and he wasted no time in sprinting towards the base. Within seconds he was staring at their perimeter wall. It was roughly 6 meters high and stretched for around 200 meters to his left if he could guess before disappearing into a corner.

Not a problem for him. He carefully floated up, and he could feel his anticipation relayed to him all the way back from the forest where his body was. His first sight was drawn to the myriad of activities happening on the front yard as dozens of soldiers were doing drills right before he quickly switched to a couple of trucks and fairly large hangar. A few meters away from the hangar looked like what would be his entrance.

He immediately jumped over the wall, only to hit an invisible wall.

"Ow!" He felt a bump. It was a barrier spell, just like the one Athena used on her house but this one was different. Feeling for it using his senses, he realized why; this one was a lot weaker. Raymond knew if he wailed on it, it would sooner or later give in to him.

That idea sounded good until he realized if he broke the barrier then whoever was in charge of the magical defenses would probably be alerted effectively ruining his stealth strategy; there went all his plan.

Raymond was stuck for more than a minute until he renewed his resolve. He slowly spread his conscious across the base; if he couldn't get in, he will at least map the area while he still had darkness on his side. He easily encompassed the entire base in a couple of minutes, getting every detail from the main gate to bio-metric scanners on both two perimeter gates and the entrance to the three structures all the way to their power lines.

He almost chuckled again but realized at his enlarged size he would almost certainly be audible and alarm the entire base. It felt so natural and almost felt like he was cheating. They were probably prepared and may be equipped to handle Supernatural of all walks of life. Perhaps a god was out of their capabilities.

It was right then that Raymond knew he liked the idea of being an all-powerful god, imagine the possibilities.

Damn! He was hooked.

Ray was alerted by the sound of an oncoming helicopter, this one looked like a civilian helicopter, and he knew he had to immediately give way before those stupid blades slashed away at his consciousness, that would be painful.

He effortlessly pulled back his astral form all the way to a human-sized figure. He had learned how to shape his form, all he had to do was picture himself the way his human body was physically, and this form replicated without needing any further details. Dropping back on the ground, he circled the large wall, and until he arrived at the gate.

It was opened and two vehicles—similar to the ones he saw initially—came out and on close inspection, he noticed they were also unmarked. He didn't bother trying to go through the opened gate as he imagined whoever put up the Barrier Spell wouldn't be dumb enough to leave the door unwarded.

That meant teleporting in wasn't an option. And here he thought he would let them have it the easy way; him sneaking in and out. Across the horizon, he could see the sun beginning to rise as the first embers peeked over the surface and knew it was time. He didn't have long to wait before he felt someone slapping his cheek.

"Ow!"

He looked around but couldn't see anyone. Another slap jogged his memory, and he sprinted to his body. He was just in time to see a third slap aimed at his other cheek before he raised his right hand and stopped it in its tracks.

A frown appeared on her attacker's face followed by a small chuckle from his male companion. "I think he heard you."

"Then why is he still not responding." Raymond let go of her hand before jumping back to his body.

"I did." He replied as he opened his eyes and stood.

"You came all the way here just to meditate?" Emma asked.

"No, I was mapping the area."

Both Bob and Emma frowned, but Ray didn't care at that point. If he was slowly cluing them in on who he was then, fuck Athena, he was done playing their con.

"I guess we are doing this?" Bob asked more to himself than anything.

"Yes, and it's almost dawn. You two can back away now, but I'm going in."

"If I do that, then Emma here won't forgive me for that, and since I need her. I guess a suicidal mission seems only fair." He said sarcastically. "One thing though, the fact that we're all probably going to die doesn't mean we have to make it easy for them which is exactly what you're about to do.

"We need a diversion, something big enough to make them focus most of their attention on while we deal with the rest."

"Well my idea was to teleport in, but the place is warded."

Obviously," Bob reiterated using his condescending tone again. Ray let that sly.

"I saw their powerlines right that way," Ray said, pointing to his left.

"Cutting off their power isn't going to do a thing, they still have backup generators."

"I don't plan on cutting it off." He said before taking off into the dark silhouettes that were the trees, he would waste too much time if he stayed and explained. Bob sighed before running after him, Emma in tow.

"How did you two find me?"

"I sniffed you out," replied Bob. "I knew you were reckless but still not foolish enough to go straight to their gate. So, I figured out the best-concealed place you would have made your stop and quickly picked up your scent. Did you pick out any guards?"

"Yeah, four were right ahead of us." He replied before they came in contact with another four guards. They quickly turned and before Bob and Ray could make their move, the guards dropped down.

A glance at Emma he saw her finish her chanting; Sleeping Spell. She was going to teach him that once this was over.

"We'll have to be quick now, once they realize these four aren't responding to their comms, they will send others to come to take a look. I suggest you work your distraction plan fast." Emma said.
