It's been almost twelve years yet there were still no sign of Amanda. But the Ravenclaw stood there waiting, she kept her promise with the Hufflepuff; a simple promise is what you might call it but that promised seemed to be an unbreakable one to Amellea.
All these past years, she managed to keep her mouth shut concerning about the real parents of the young girl to both of the children. Of course, she had many lies for the kids, one of them would be about not knowing if Evie really did have any magical status.
That 'time has come' is nearing which Amellea sort of feared of because she knew that when time really come, her relationship with the young girl might tear apart because of this.
Maybe the time really has come.
Plenty of signs were given to the Leightons ; one, at the age of twelve Evie almost killed a student from her school just by glaring at her ; sky started to rumbled while that student almost got hit by a lighting. Second, would be all of the those times that Evie proved them that she also have a magical status.
Amellea had already took care of the papers concerning Evie's transfer to Hogwarts.... from a muggle school.
Now all they have to do is wait for the owl ;
Well, that is what Evie's doing as she was seated behind her study table with an open book down her study table
❛❛Please show up❜❜ she mumbled under her breath and leaned to the backrest of her own chair as she continued to stare the blue sky through the window of her room with her hands tangled around the lighting necklace that she had owned for like, forever
As always, she was there patiently waiting by the window with full hopes of an owl coming to sight with a letter being carried with it.
Her replica necklace glowed and as always it didn't fail to give her warmth, pushing away the negativity. Evie smiled as she tangled her fingers around the necklace and diverted her attention to it. This magical lighting necklace she has on is only a copy or a somewhat replica of the real one that contains better magic, this was made by Amellea herself while the real one from Evie's real mom stood waiting by Amellea's hands.
It's been some time— well, today is her birthday, she had already turned thirteen. Is it still possible to get to join the other students in the school of witchcraft and wizardry, Hogwarts? Should it have been sent like a week or two away from when the school year really start?
Evie has been dreaming to come to Hogwarts, some of her friends have already received their acceptance letters, even her not-by-blood brother did too! Well of course they did, they received it years ago when they were still eleven years old.
And yes, Evie had been officially adopted.
When Evie was still a baby, she was left in the streets of London, the wizards who had taken and adopted her, Mr. and Mrs. Leighton bad-mouthed the parents or whoever those people who left her in the streets. Well, at least that's what they told her and Sebastian.
Too busy with the thoughts about Hogwarts, she didn't notice her mother was there standing by the doorframe with a tray of a sandwich and some beverage for Evie.
Their mother, amellea stood there and stared at the young girl who sat there by her study desk. The room sure felt quite a bit cold with the window in front of Evie was slightly agape causing wind to blow inside the room.
sighing in defeat, Evie let her head drop to her study table causing a loud thud which she didn't really bothered about much, she even ignored the comforting glow and warmth given by the necklace.
Amellea being the concerned mother she is, quickly drew herself towards the young girl and placed the tray down to her table ❛❛Honey, what's wrong? are you hurt?❜❜ she asked with her hand on Evie's back.
Evie lifted her head up a bit and looked at her mother who was crouching down a bit, with a smile as Evie shrugged her head as a response. then once again, letting her head drop to her table causing a loud thud.
crouching down, the tall fair-skinned woman had a concerned look plastered at her face as she tugged her own hair behind her ears to keep some of her hair from blocking her view ❛❛Honey, look at me.❜❜ she requested in her usual soft and gentle voice that had always been soothing and calm to the ears. finally getting the young girl to face her, she passed her a small smile ❛❛You know you can always talk to me when there's something wrong, right?❜❜
The young lady did as told and looked up to her mother ❛❛I'm just thinking mother..❜❜ she trailed off, frowning ❛❛what if, I don't get accepted to Hogwarts? which will also mean that I won't ever be able to receive my acceptance letter— I'm already thirteen and I'm transferring from a muggle school, will they accept me? what if—❜❜ and now she's being a worrisome
Cutting off the young lady's words, she flashed her an encouraging smile ❛❛That's plenty of "what if"s, dear❜❜ she chuckled ❛❛Calm down.... don't think about it too much. be patient, it'll come around❜ she reassured, still with her bright smile.
Actually, Amellea herself is also bothered by it. what if they really don't? okay no, don't think negatively.
❛❛But mom, I had already turned thirteen, am I still gonna be sent an acceptance letter? Classes in Hogwarts is gonna start in like three days!❜❜ she cried out
the young red-headed boy giggled as he leaned to the door frame.
Turning around to look at the doorway, there stood Evie's adopted brother, Sebastian. Amellea shot the young man a curious brow, not really used to the young man waking up early.
❛❛Morning, Sebastian❜❜ Evie greeted with a small smile
Still, with a brow raised, Amellea asked the young man, ❛❛Awake early, I see. Did something bother your sleep?❜❜
The thirteen-year-old boy shrugged his shoulders ❛❛Isn't she supposed to be questioned too?❜❜ he answered, as he was used to Evie waking up late, the last one to wake up in the house.
But of course, Evie is just too excited yet also too worried for acceptance that she'd be waking up late hoping to catch the first sight of an owl coming to their mail.
❛❛Come❜❜ Amellea exclaimed, motioning the boy to come closer to them. Sebastian proceeded inside Evie's room as he was then sat the edge of Evie's comfortable bed.
❛❛Is something bothering you?❜❜ Evie asked turning to Sebastian, her hands holding the seat of her swivel chair for support.
Sebastian looked at her and raised a questioning brow ❛❛Is something bothering you?❜❜ he retorted back emphasizing the whole question to her.
Did she really think he wouldn't notice ?- well them. She's been acting really off and had actually skipped meals for more than a week. She's been spacing out a lot and would always just be quiet. If she does need to respond she'll just hum either a yes or a no, shrugged her head or shoulder, nod her head or just simply flash a small smile. She's too obvious. Her family is worried about her.
❛❛I...❜❜ she trailed off looking away. she sighed again for the nth time ❛❛I was just thinking about my acceptance to Hogwarts❜❜
Smiling a bit, their mother drew comforting circles at the girl's back ❛❛Like I said, don't think about it too much, eve.❜❜
Sebastian nodded his head in approval ❛❛Mum's right. just be patient, it'll come. trust me❜❜ he smiled. Not wanting to keep the blue atmosphere, Sebastian stood up from the edge of Evie's bed ❛❛Okay enough with that, fAMILY HUG!❜❜ he exclaimed, engulfing both females who he loves dearly; his mom and sister.
It didn't take long for Evie to curve her lips up, a genuine smile. Finally. Evie let her arms hang around her mom and her brother's shoulders
❛❛Thank you.❛❛ she muttered
❛❛It's the least we could do, for now, little dove.❜❜ their mother, Amellea smiled as they pulled their selves off the hug not really wanting to suffocate evie any longer.
❛❛That's very hard to disagree with❜❜ Sebastian cheekily smiled.
Jennieviev sure is more than lucky to be adopted by this wonderful family. A wonderful family that consists of magical people.
❛❛Honey, kids, come quick!❜❜ the father, Jonathan called out from downstairs, that sudden call made the three jump a bit from their places in surprise.
Hearing the father of their family in somehow panic they looked at each other and rushed downstairs, by the living room where they heard Jonathan, the father's voice earlier calling them out.
Spotting her father in front of the door, she rushed to him ❛❛father what's wrong?❜❜ she asked with worry
Jonathan faced them with a small letter in his hands, a very familiar one. both Sebastian and Amellea were already there standing, anticipating what is happening.
❛❛Congrats?❜❜ Jonathan exclaimed in a questioning tone due to still being unsure of what the letter actually really says ❛❛And happy thirteenth birthday.❜❜
Evie raised a curious brow at her father, she asked ❛❛May I ask why the first word you told me sounded like a question?❜❜ taking the envelope away from her father's hand gently, she made sure to cover it despite having small hands. Jonathan only giggled at her ❛❛What did it say, father?❜❜ she questioned.
❛❛Why don't you find it out yourself?❜❜ Jonathan smiled brightly at the black-haired young girl in front of him and gestured her to open the mail.
Looking at her mother and brother who had already stood in front of her, between her father, she pursed her lips into a thin line as she felt so nervous.
Amellea smiled brightly and crossed her fingers
Heaving a sigh, she closed her eyes tight as she gently opened the envelope and pull the letter out concerning her transfer from a muggle school in London to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.
Finally opening her eyes and carefully reading it, her eyes started to water.
❛❛Jennievieve?❜❜ Sebastian called out with a frown, guessing the bad news.
Hearing her name she looked up from the letter ❛❛Am I dreaming?❜❜ she asked, still doubting the letter for her that she had in her hands. If it is, then don't wake her up, she'd rather stay ❛❛Ouch— hey!❜❜ she yelped when she felt a poke on her side, shooting a glare at his one and only goody brother, Sebastian.
Sebastian returned her an awkward smile ❛❛Well, you're not dreaming❜❜
Being the impatient Ravenclaw she is, Amellea peeked her head to Evie ❛❛Did you got accepted?❜❜ she questioned with full hopes, hands clasped together in participation.
Evie pursed her lips into a thin line before smiling and nodding her head vigorously. It didn't really take long for the couple and Sebastian to attack her and engulf her in a tight hug.
❛❛Congrats!❜❜ her father beamed which she thanked, finally sounding sure with his words. Evie burst into laughter when her father and brother started to do a very silly victory dance or better yet a celebration dance.
Amellea took a hold of Evie and cupped her face in awe ❛❛My baby dove is finally going to her dream school❜❜ she muttered.
True but, ❛❛Mum, I'm already thirteen❜❜ she uttered, with her face squished between her mother's hands. Gently pushing Amellea's hands, Evie held it as she looked up to her mother ❛❛Hopefully, I'll be able to survive there especially with the fact that I'm a transferee from a muggle school❜❜ Evie chuckled lightly
❛❛You will❜❜ Amellea reassured with a small but genuine smile, enough to comfort the girl.
the time finally has come.
Jonathan cleared his throat, catching the Evie and amellea's attention, causing them to turn to him and Sebastian's direction which was behind Evie.
❛❛Happy thirteenth birthday, Jennievieve❜❜ Sebastian greeted as he made the beautifully decorated double-layered cake face Evie; three lit yellow candles placed in the middle of the cake.
Touched, Evie giggled ❛❛That came out of nowhere❜❜ Evie whispered to herself her wish after they had motioned her to do so ❛❛Thank you❜❜ she smiled, totally appreciating everything.
Even though they weren't related by blood, they had still taken Evie and continued to raise her into a beautiful young kind-hearted yet also wittily smart lady. They never treated her or even had made her feel like she was misplaced or something. They took great care of her, they treated her like she really belonged with them, like she was really really part of their lovely magical family. Just like what Amellea and Jonathan promised to Amanda.
Evie couldn't help but raise a confused brow ❛❛What's that?❜❜ she was referring to the small red box that her father, Jonathan had in his hand that was handed towards her.
Taking her hand, Jonathan placed the red box to her hand ❛❛It's a gift.❜❜ he smiled as his arms snaked around his wife's waist and pull her close causing her to yelp in surprise and hit him which he and the children only laughed at ❛❛Go on, open it❜❜
Passing them a smile, she opened the box ❛❛Is this the real one?❜❜ she asked as she took the bright golden necklace that had a lighting bolt as its pendant.
Amellea nodded her head in approval ❛❛As promised.❜❜
❛❛Didn't really expect that it'd look that brilliant❜❜ Sebastian cooed at the sight of the necklace, amazed by detailed designs it had especially the streaks of electricity running evidently on the pendant.
Evie definitely agrees with that ❛❛I know, right?❜❜ she exclaimed excitingly as she continued to examine it above her palm.
It was awfully cool if you'd ask the two teenagers
Amellea giggled at how the children were so fond of the necklace ❛❛You should promise to always wear that and not take off, no matter what. It's a very very unique necklace only made for you... that's the only thing left by your real mother..❜❜
❛❛I promise.❜❜
❛❛And as for the replica one, it's for you to either keep or give❜❜ Jonathan followed up as he then made his way to his daughter and made her wear the original lighting necklace ❛❛It's your choice.❜❜ he smiled, placing down the replica one to her hand.
❛❛It's beautiful, I love it❜❜ running to them she engulfed them into a hug ❛❛Thanks❜❜
Breaking the hug they flashed each other bright and warm smiles before Amellea clapped her hands in a fast motion
❛❛Now, now, you should help me out the kitchen for we are having people in the house to celebrate these two matters!❜❜ she announced.
The teenagers cheered at the news from their mother and got their selves ready to race to the kitchen.
