The portal had transported each of the eight friends back to their own room in their own houses separately.
And the next day, they went to school again after the long break.
*************************************************
XX High School, on the first day back.
Kaori stepped into the classroom, stretching her hands and yawning as she entered. The class broke into murmurs as soon as she did.
"Hey, it's Kaori!"
"Whoa, it's been so long!"
"So they finally decided to come back to school?"
And then choruses made their way from all directions to her, "Good morning!"
She gave a sweet smile as well and returned the wish, "Good morning to all of you, too!"
Kaori hurried to her seat at the back and put her backpack down on her seat when a hand slid down her shoulder.
"Kaori!" Robin cheered, "Hasn't it been so long since we saw each other in uniform? I feel so uneasy right now."
"Yeah," Kaori replied as she brushed his hand off her shoulder. He didn't mind the rudeness, though.
"Do you think anyone will question us about where we were?" Robin whispered to her ear.
Kaori shook her head, "I don't think so. Kazuma-sensei told the principal to take care of things. When did you come to school?"
"Ten minutes earlier than you."
"What about the others?"
"They should be arriving soon. Oh, there they are!" Robin looked over at the door to the classroom to see Wood, Dylanthy and Willia entering the room.
"Kaori!" Willia waved at her friend and quickly walked to her with Dylanthy while Wood followed.
As they exchanged greetings, Robin smiled at Dylanthy, "Good morning."
The girl looked uncomfortable under his gaze that she quietly replied to his wish and grabbed Kaori's arm, "Kaori, can I copy your homework? I couldn't complete mine."
"Ah, sure. But—" Kaori got cut off by Dylanthy.
"Then let's go," She said, pulling Kaori away with her toward Kaori's desk.
That was when Melissa and Tom entered the scene.
"Hi," Tom said first as he threw his arm around Wood's shoulder who was looking over at Kaori and Dylanthy just like everyone else.
Melissa raised an eyebrow at the atmosphere, "Oh? Seems like we missed something."
"Yeah, you did," Willia replied. "Do you know what's up with her?" She asked, indicating Dylanthy with her eyebrows and stare.
Wood added to Melissa, "I guess it's not just you two who missed something. It looks like we all missed out on a big piece of cake."
Only Robin remained silent and watched the girl he had greeted earlier to be ignored.
*************************************************
Kaori took out her homework silently and handed it out to Dylanthy who thanked her in return and was about to take her notebook from her hand when she raised it away from her grip.
Dylanthy looked up at Kaori in confusion and sadness, "What happened? You won't give it to me?"
Kaori sighed, "Before I give it to you, I want you to answer my question honestly. Ever since coming back from that festival before, I noticed that Robin and you aren't really being on good terms like you used to be. Something happened between him and you at the festival, didn't it?"
"....."
"So it did," Kaori handed her notebook to Dylanthy, "What happened?"
"Nothing much," Dylanthy replied lowly.
"Are you sure about that?" Kaori remarked, "You didn't even make eye contact with him today. What's wrong? You were fine until now."
"I wasn't fine.. I just pretended to be," Dylanthy sighed out, "My heart was about to burst out any minute!"
"Why? What happened? Did he do something to you?" Kaori asked out of worry.
Dylanthy shook her head side to side in reply, "No, he said something to me."
"What did he say?"
"That he liked me."
Kaori was shocked, "He what?"
*************************************************
[Flashback]
"It's you. The someone in all those questions... Is you for me."
When Dylanthy heard those words from Robin, her whole world stopped before her eyes. She tried to speak but no words came out of her lips. Just the two staring at each other's eyes silently seemed to be the only thing they could do right now.
"You," She stuttered, "Y-you.."
Robin silently watched her try to speak out in vain. Then he admitted to her, "Yes. I like you, Dylanthy."
Dylanthy's jaw tightened, "If you really had feelings for me then why did you do those stuff?"
"I'm sorry," Robin apologized, "I was being short sighted."
"I.." Dylanthy wanted to assure him that it was okay, that she forgives him. She also wanted to confess but something held her back.
"Yes?"
"It's okay... There's nothing to apologize for," She said out only a part of it, compressing the main thing she wanted to blurt out.
They rarely exchanged any sentence as the two sat in silence, drinking their coffee away.
[End of flashback]
Kaori shoved a spoonful of rice into her mouth, "So that's what had happened."
It was lunch time and they were eating in the cafeteria. Dylanthy and Kaori sat seperately from the main group of friends since Dylanthy begged Kaori for it. She couldn't tell her what had happened in the festival with Robin at the time she was asked because the teacher had entered the class. So she wanted to tell her the story over lunch time. But that didn't mean she was okay with sharing it with everyone else. Well, not yet. So here they were.
"Yes," Dylanthy replied.
"Why didn't you confess back?" Kaori asked, straight to the point.
Dylanthy hesitated, "I don't know either, to be honest. All I know is that I didn't want things to start like this. So I didn't want to confess and I didn't do it."
"I see," Kaori hummed. "Dylanthy?" She called out after some thought, "I'll give you an on spot advice. Don't ignore Robin, that'll only turn things wrong."
"What do you mean?"
"You don't know if he might end up thinking that you don't actually want him around you like that and you're uncomfortable about this whole thing. So he might want to change things. He might misunderstand your feelings," Kaori said uncertainly, "That's why – don't fully ignore him. Just be casual."
"Okay, I'll try to. By the way, Kaori?" Dylanthy called this time.
"Yeah?"
"Did you see Yamaken in class all day?"
"No," Kaori replied, "I think he skipped school today. Why?"
"Well," Dylanthy shrugged, "Then why is he here now?"
Kaori turned around to look at the way Dylanthy had indicated to see Yamaken walking into the cafeteria looking all so messy yet as handsome as he could ever be.
As he walked past the tables, all the girls began squealing over him because of seeing his face finally after all these days. However, he ignored all the fan girls and walked right up to the table where Kaori was sitting at.
Sitting down beside Kaori, he asked, "Hey, where are the others?"
Kaori was surprised by the sudden appearance of his that she went into a daze, gaping at his face. Dylanthy took the initiative to answer his question.
"They're over there at that table," She pointed at the table across them.
As Yamaken saw the others, they waved at each other. "Why are you guys sitting seperately? Got into a fight?" He asked in confusion.
"No," Dylanthy laughed lightly, "We were just discussing about something."
"Ah," Yamaken glanced at Kaori, "Sorry for disturbing you two unintentionally."
"Not at all" Kaori finally spoke, snapping out of the daze. "But why are you only coming to school now? Is this even allowed?" She demanded.
He answered with a smile, "I overslept. And yeah, it's okay. I'm just a bit too late."
"𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥," Kaori thought. "𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱? 𝘏𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥, 𝘵𝘰𝘰."
"Dylanthy," Kaori looked at her friend, "Let's call the others over, too."
Wood, Willia, Melissa, Tom and Robin joined them from the other table soon. Willia and Melissa took the seat next to each other. Robin quickly slid down next to Dylanthy while Wood took the other side of Kaori.
When they all took their seats and began eating, Kaori still felt something was off in here; as if she had forgotten something.
"𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵, 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵, 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵!" Kaori suddenly realized the situation, remembering the old memories and screamed internally, "𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰? After the god forsaken long lunchtime for Kaori, they were on their way back to class when she spotted Mark Brown, their student council president, from afar in the hallway.
"Oh, president!" She called out, waving at him cheerfully.
Mark looked at her direction from the side and a smile made its way to his lips, "Hey, it's Kaori!"
All of them greeted each other as soon as they met up in the way.
Mark exclaimed, "It's been ages since we last saw each other, right? Oh, how I missed your presence!"
"Aw," Kaori smiled, "We're back now! By the way, how is things going with MSC High?"
Mark laughed loudly, "Our school is like buddies with them now! Everyone is satisfied with the outcome. It's all thanks to you, Kaori!"
"Not at all," Kaori waved the matter away.
"Oh yeah, Kaori," Mark suddenly said as if he had remembered something important. "Come by the council room after school if you can. There are some files that I need you to look over."
"Okay," Kaori replied back energetically. She just got what she was eanting – something to do.
"Then I'll be leaving now," Mark looked at the others, "Take care of yourselves!"
"Have a good afternoon," All of the eight chorused.
Kaori beamed at her friends, "Seems like I can't go home together with you!"
"Aren't you supposed to say it with less enthusiasm?" Wood squinted at her, "You sound rather happy."
"No, I'm not," Kaori denied, "I'm just looking forward to working on something."
"Sorry guys," Yamaken spoke, "I think I can't go home with you all, too. I have to go to the school library."
Melissa mocked him, "Oh wow, look! We got a study bug here. The exams are months away, Yamaken, don't work too hard too early."
"It's not funny," Yamaken said coldly, turning Melissa gloomy, "Thanks for the worries anyway."
"But I was just joking..." She mumbled.
"Look," Yamaken swiped his fringes out of his forehead, "I have to go now. See you guys later."
He departed, leaving all his friends to gape at him.
"Did something happen to him?" Tom asked first. "He was late to school and now he seems colder than usual."
"Hmm," Kaori bit the inner side of her bottom lip as she stared at the way Yamaken had left.
*************************************************
Robin was walking back to his class from the washroom as he hummed a tune to himself.
"𝘐𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦," He smiled helplessly, "𝘐 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.."
All of a sudden, he was stopped on the way by a girl, who had long silky brown hair all over her shoulders and big cute doe eyes. She flashed her white teeth at him.
"Hi!" The girl presented him with her sweetest smile.
Nodding stiffly, he replied flatly, "Hi."
"You are Robin Parker, right?" She breathed, "I'm Johann Ronstadt from class – A. I've heard a lot about you from the girls of my class. I wish to be good friends with you!" She shined her white teeth again.
Robin looked at the hand she had stretched out to him. "I'm sorry," He said, looking up to meet her eyes, "I can't accept your feelings."
Johann looked taken aback, "Eh?" Her hand automatically started to retreat.
"You have feelings for me, right?" Robin asked directly, "You want to start off as being friends. But you'll confess your feelings to me later, won't you?"
"Ah," Johann laughed awkwardly, scratching her palm, "Was it that obvious?"
"It was because I've dealt with this kind of girls before," Robin replied honestly. Then he admitted truthfully, "If I hadn't made the promise to change myself, I would've complied to your confession."
"Ah," She said again, smiling a little sadly, "I see. Bad luck, I guess."
"You'll find a way better person for yourself," He said softly to her, "Someone who'll cherish you forever. However, I'm sorry for turning you down."
"Isn't it pathetic?"
Robin saw Johann's eyes go wide when that voice rang out. He frowned at her.
"Being rejected even before you could confess properly, hah!"
"Oh well, she's pathetic anyway. So it doesn't really matter," Another girl laughed loudly.
And then, they came forwards. "Hey, Johann," The taller girl with long, wavy golden hair, sang out.
The girl beside her commented as if she was surprised to see Robin and Johann here, "Oh my! Sarah, do you think they heard us? Oh, now I feel bad that we called Johann pathetic," She put on a fake sad face.
"No way," The girl named Sarah giggled, "Johann is kind and big hearted. I'm sure she'll forgive us for reminding her about the harsh truths of life as always. She'll thank us instead! Right, Johann?"
Robin looked over at Johann to hear something from her to only see her look pale and terrified. Her whole body was visibly shaking and sweat could be seen to form on her forehead, too.
He was getting pissed off at the words that the two new comer girl sprouted but he waited patiently because he thought Johann had some kind of an acquaintance with them. But now, reading the room, he could speak up.
"Hey, don't you think you are interrupting us?" He asked the girls coldly.
Sarah was quick to answer, "What's there to interrupt? Didn't you turn her down already?" She made eye contact with her friend and burst out to laughter.
Robin saw a tear fall on the ground – Johann was crying, but she hid her face so that no one could see her. She must be feeling humiliated.
He let out a sigh.

He grabbed Johann's wrist and pulled her into his arms, holding her shoulder tightly with his hand. Johann looked at him, surprised by his actions.
"Who told you I turned her down?" Robin said bluntly. "I was testing if her feelings were genuine for me. "
He gave a sweet glance at Johann that melt her heart at an instant, "From today on, we're in a relationship."

"Hey, Kaori," Willia called out to her dear friend.
"Hm?" However, her dear friend replied with no interest, focusing on the math problem she was solving – twirling the pen between her fingers nonstop.
Willia didn't loose her heart and asked, "Something's been bothering me since earlier. You remember that festival we went to? Did anything happen to Wood before he had come over to meet me back then?"
Willia's countless tries to attract Kaori's attention was snatched by this single question.
"Why do you ask?" Kaori said with big, expectant eyes.
"He," Willia hesitated at Kaori's reaction, "He cried when he met up with me."
"Huh?" Kaori asked, dumbfounded.
As the words of Willia processed into her head, collecting the memories of the moments with Wood in the festival, suddenly a huge thing hit her head like a bludgeon.
"Huh?!" Kaori shrieked, standing up. "Why? Why would he cry? What was the reason? Did he tell you anything?"
Willia shook her head, "I couldn't even confess to him after seeing his state. That's why I was asking if anything happened when you were with him."
Kaori gulped.

Sarah smirked, "You must be playing games right now."
Robin raised his eyebrows, "I don't see any need of it."
Slowly, the smirk on Sarah's lips dulled, "I thought you had taste in girls. I guess I was wrong."
"Yeah," Robin nodded in agreement. "It's that I have taste in girls that I don't date types like you," He smirked proudly at the two girls.
The corridor was already getting stuffed with students watching the show. Some of them saw what was happening, so they called others out to show them, too.
Since Robin didn't want the crowd to grow further so he decided to put the drama to an end.
He smiled at Johann, "Go to your class now, we'll meet after school. Okay?"
Johann silently nodded, starting to walk into her classroom when Robin stopped her by holding her wrist again.
"Wait," He called out.
He leaned over at her ears and whispered, "If they do anything to you, just call me." He then smiled at her, melting her heart again, "I'll protect you." He gave a soft kiss on her head and a few pats on her back.
As they parted, all the viewers groaned at how good of a playboy he was – they already understood what was happening.
Glaring at Sarah and her friend for the last time, he started on the way to his class again.
As the crowd cleared, Wood could be seen standing on his back to the wall on the way that took a turn on the left to the class of the new girlfriend of Robin. He let out a sigh.
𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘵.
He was about to let out another sigh when he saw Dylanthy climbing up the stairs. As they met each others eyes, they shared smiles.
"Hey," Dylanthy waved, "Why are you standing here?"
Wood shook his head, "I was returning to class but I thought of taking a short rest here. Let's go back together, shall we?"
"Yeah, sure!"

Willia listened to Kaori's explanation with great attention. After Kaori finished, she gave it a few thoughts and tried to talk to Kaori thoroughly about it.
"So," She said, "Doesn't that give off an impression that maybe he's interested in you?"
"I'm not sure if he really wanted to confess to me or whatever," Kaori said breathlessly. "But yeah, it does," She answered Willia's question.
Willia put her hand on her chin, "But you don't have any feelings for him."
"No way," Kaori reacted defensively. "I only see all of you as my friends and I will never go farther than that, you guys are like my family. I don't have any ulterior feelings for anyone."
"Not for Yamaken, too?" A sly smirk played off on Willia's face.
"No," Kaori mumbled.
"I see," Willia sang playfully. "But I wonder what he actually wanted to say? To be frank here, Kaori, we can't judge about anything on this topic. There is like a fifty-fifty chance here. Either he could have confessed to you if he had any feelings for you; or, he could have said something else. But the strange thing is, he cried for some reason and also, if it was something else, he could've told you by now. But he didn't say anything particular to you in these days, did he?"
Kaori scoffed, "More like, he didn't even talk to me in these days at all. That boy is so mysterious!"
"Really?" Willia shrugged, "I find Yamaken more mysterious than Wood."
"You seem more interested in Yamaken than Wood. Are you sure you like the latter?" Kaori asked straightforward.
Willia smirked again, "Why? Feeling jelly?"
"Oh hey, look, it's Robin," Kaori waved at the said male from her desk as he entered the classroom, ignoring Willia's remark. "Where have you been?" She asked, clueless of what he just did in the meantime.
"Kaori, Willia," He sat down on Yamaken's desk. "Stay over for some time after school. I've got someone to introduce you to."
"Huh?" Willia raised her eyebrows.
"I just met someone on the way," He explained briefly, "I think that person would like to meet you all."
As the lunchtime was over, the bell rung out in the school. Robin stood up, "Remember to stay over for some time, please."
"What is that guy planning?" Willia poked Kaori to point at Robin, "He's acting suspicious."
"Where's Yamaken?" Kaori asked out of the blue.
"How would I know?" Willia shrugged. She looked over her shoulders to check if any of her friends were entering the classroom.
"There he is. Yamaken!" She called out when she spotted him.
Kaori frowned at the bored, tired looking boy who walked over at them with a forced handsome smile.
"𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘐'𝘮 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯" – Was everything she could think of.
*************************************************
After school.
Kaori, Willia, Wood, Dylanthy, Melissa and Tom were the only ones who were waiting for Robin who went over to bring the person they were to be introduced to.
Yamaken didn't wait because he didn't want to. He had told them that it was important to go over to the library for him, so he just left. By this, Kaori thought that maybe Yamaken was taking pressure on studying for the final exam. For that, he looked weary and he was acting distant to his friends.
After waiting for like twenty minutes, Robin entered the classroom with a girl following him behind. He lead her in and stood with her beside him and beamed at his friends.
"Say hello to Johann Ronstadt," Robin introduced.
His friends chorused, "Hi."
"Johann," Robin said to the girl, "They are my precious friends!"
"Hi," Kaori shook hands with the new girl. The girl seemed nice, so she didn't want to miss out on making a new friend. "I'm Kaori," She smiled softly.
"Oh, I've heard a lot about you throughout the school," Johann said with a small laugh, "It's nice to finally be able to meet you!"
"Oh, no, the pleasure is mine."
"We didn't know Robin made a new friend," Melissa said, smiling, "How could you hide a cute friend like her?"
"Um, guys," Robin cleared his throat, glancing at Dylanthy who looked indifferent through the whole incidence.
"She's my new girlfriend."
