Chapter 61 - friendship

everybody in the cafe immediately looked to Marv with annoyed expressions. Marv couldn't care less about them as he read Finn's license. he was utterly surprised that Finn could have such a high rank. Marv looked at the smirking Finn who was sipping on his coffee. Finn wanted to see this expression on Marv. they weren't enemies or anything just...Finn wanted to see something like this. Finn chuckled inwardly as Marv apologised to the other customers. Brianna was just looking between the two and wondered what was going on.

Marv then sat back in his seat while looking defeated. Finn was really enjoying this. he pretended to really enjoy his apple pie while twisting his fork every so often and making strange sounds. Marv got sick of the sounds and slapped the back of Finn's head telling him to shut up. Finn just laughed and asked Brianna if she wanted to know what was happening.

Brianna nodded her head and looked at Finn with curiosity. Finn liked Brianna's attention and began his explanation.

"I was doing a test to become an adventurer...I did so well that the chairman of the entire adventurers association came and awarded me with a powerful title."

"REALLY!?"

Brianna didn't realize that Finn was lying to her and was thinking of how cool Finn was. Marv was agitated but he didn't stop Finn's nonsense.

"so then I thanked him and he gave me lots of women and I-UGHH!"

Marv was now wrapping his hands around Finn's neck while gripping tightly. Finn could hardly breathe and Marv was asking him to repeat what he had just said. Finn just decided to do the same thing to Marv and they were both choking each other before a waitress approached their table and asked them to stop. there were children in the cafe and seeing such behaviour wasn't really good.

they apologised while keeping their heads low. Brianna had watched this all and was slightly angry at Marv for interrupting Finn's story. she then asked for Finn to continue his story before Marv told her that Finn was lying.

Finn didn't like that.

Finn really wanted to choke Marv again but held himself back as he told the true story and what rank he had received. he exaggerated a few parts...but it was all in good intentions...Brianna was laughing, right?

Marv just listened and when Finn was done he nodded his head as he took a bite of apple pie.

"so...it seems you have far more power than your telling us about..."

Finn watched Marv take bites from his pie with a dark expression. Brianna could see that things weren't going well so she tried to tell them to not fight. Finn immediately stopped and Marv apologised...but didn't stop.

the group finally left the cafe with Brianna standing in the middle. they headed for the hotel and Finn declared that he was sharing a room with Marv and Brianna. Marv was annoyed but not to the extent he would choke Finn again.

Finn went straight to their room with Brianna following him. Marv watched them and left the hotel so he could go and buy a new set of armour for himself. he roamed the streets for a while before he returned to the blacksmith shop that he had gotten his previous armour.

Marv entered the shop and the bell ringed signifying his entry. Marv looked around the shop before his gaze landed on a woman who was arranging a couple of swords on the walls. she was the woman who had done Finn's first test and was the daughter of the blacksmith. she was leaning over so she could polish a sword and hadn't noticed Marv.

Marv then heard the voice of the blacksmith as he welcomed Marv into his shop. Marv smiled at this and headed to the counter to start talking with the blacksmith. the woman heard her father's voice and saw Marv for the first time. Marv wasn't interested in her so he just asked if the blacksmith had any good scythes he could use.

the blacksmith was confused a bit...normally he received requests for swords, axes and spears...but rarely had he gotten a request for a scythe.

still, the blacksmith actually had a few in stock so he directed Marv to the back of the shop. the woman watched Marv head to the back of the shop and then continued to polish the sword in her hands.

the back of the shop was extremely hot. Marv wiped the sweat off his brow as he looked at all the weapon moulds and tools. Marv just followed the man deeper into the smithy and saw some workers hammering away at metals or carrying batches of metal for smelting. soon the blacksmith stopped at a door and pushed it open revealing another section full of strange weapons.

Marv looked around and saw strange-looking gauntlets that were blue in colour and were expandable by the looks of it. Marv wanted to check them out when he heard the voice of the blacksmith again.

"ok...here are the scythes I have...I didn't make any of them but bought them from an adventurer who was selling them on a whim."

the blacksmith pulled four different curved weapons.

the first one was completely pitch black with long two metre chains attached to the top of the scythe. the chains were wrapped around the pole. the blade stretched for half a metre before suddenly curving downwards. the pole was over two metres in length and was made of black iron with engravings across it.

the second one was a mixture of red and black with the pole separated into 7 different segments that looked like they could extend to Marv. the blade was long and thin and curved downwards and inwards. the pole was over two metres in length and had a strange spike coming out of the bottom. the blacksmith wasn't sure of the materials used.

the third one was black and grey with the pole being black and the blade being grey. the blade was simple and sharp while the pole curved backwards slightly and the tip of the blade wasn't pointed but had a sharp edge. the pole was actually a metre and a half in length and was made of black iron. the blade was made of enchanted iron.

the last one was...odd...it had a green radiance emanating from the surface of the blade. the blade was thick and heavy and stretched for a metre without curving. it had razor teeth along its blade. the pole was about Marv's height and completely black as well. the blade had small engravings as well along with it but Marv couldn't read them. the blacksmith said he was unable to tell the materials used as well.

Marv had then made his decision as he looked at all four scythes before him.

"I'll buy them all please."
