"Hello." I smiled at everyone I passed by.
I swear, I was almost gonna pass out by how exited I was. I didn't realize that people looked so different!
I saw this girl with enormous purple hair. It was curly and big and large and had flowers in it. Her face was painted and bedazzled. She was just so interesting.
There was also this boy with bright red pupils and really sharp teeth. His hair was short and curly.
I couldn't stop myself from introducing myself to them. I stopped them at the same time and offered the girl my right hand, and the boy my left.
"I'm Enki!" I say as I finish shaking their hands.
The red haired boy spoke first. "Vulcan, nice to meet you." As he spoke, flames left his mouth a few centimetres away from his face.
He was so cool!
"My name starts with V too!" The purple haired girl spoke. "I'm Violet."
They both stopped to talk to me. This was also their first day here, but they knew way more about the school than I did since their parents are famous alumni.
I thought I was well educated since all I did was study, but just from our tiny conversation I realized there was a world out there I was completely unfamiliar with.
"So what's your trait?" Vulcan asked both Violet and I.
A trait?
Does he mean power? I thought you came to school to get powers.
"Well, I don't really know how to explain it." Violet said. "But I can show you.
Vulcan and I stare at Violet. Curious as to what her 'trait' was.
The ground beneath her feet began to look fluid. Like water, yet still keeping its's texture and color.
Violet's eyes were a luminescent and bright grey. The markings on her face that stretched across her eyes and cheeks were glowing the same color. Beneath her feet was a small branch. The branch crawled up Violet's arm and between her fingers.
Soon, a tree larger than any in sight grew right in front of our eyes, with Violet at the very top.
It was fascinating to watch.
"And now for the big exit." Violet shouted so we could hear her.
Violet leaped from the top of the tree. She didn't land, instead she slipped under the earth's crust, leaving no indent or whole.
There was no way you could tell she was there, underground.
"Wow," Vulcan gawked in admiration. "Where did she go?"
"I'm here!" Violet announced, appearing to be growing out of the tree that was slowly descending into the earth. "So, what ever I just did, it's one of my main traits. I can't explain it yet."
I smiled at her then looked over at Vulcan who spoke.
"Oh cool! Look what I can do!" Vulcan shouted.
He took something out of his pocket that looked like a small corn dog.
"It's uncooked, but watch this."
Vulcan held the mini corn dog between his teeth and the small doughy snack was soon cooked and ready to eat, being baked by the small flames exiting Vulcan's mouth.
"Wow! Impressive!" I said.
"That's so cool, you can be our little snack machine." said Violet.
They both then turned to me, looking at me with anticipation.
"What about you Enki?" Violet urged. "Show us your trait."
I don't know what I was feeling.
I felt like I was disappointing my very first friends.
"Um." I started. My heart started to pound. "I never learned my trait."
Vulcan rested his hand on my shoulder, my arm was a lot warmer now, but him cooking my shoulder brought me a sense of comfort.
He looked me in my eyes, I could feel him questioning my soul. "How come you got into this school then? You must be here for class 8? I feel so bad for you." He rambled.
Suddenly I feel a lot less comforted and lot more confused.
I did get into class 8 actually. . .
"Leave him alone Vulcan!" Violet demanded, pushing Vulcan away from me. "He's probably just stupid let me see if I can help him."
"Hey that's mean to call someone stupid Violet!" Vulcan yelled.
"Not if it's true! and plus I can sense power in him, there's no way he's a dull. Unless I'm just picking up energy from the other students. My sensory traits aren't refined yet."
I sat quietly waiting for them to explain to me what's going on. Soon, they both went silent and looked at me.
"Okay, you ask him if you're so sure he has a trait." Vulcan mocked.
Violet looked at me, determined to find out what I am. "What were your parents' traits?"
"Oh I don't have any! I was born with out any." I tell them.
They both look flatly at me, confused. I don't know why they were so confused since it was true.
Violet spoke first. "It's not okay to lie, Enki. If you don't have a trait that's fine but if you lie to us we can't be friends."
"Yeah my mom said I can't trust liars, you know, because they'll lie." Vulcan helped.
"I'm not lying!" I defend.
And then it was time to go to the classes.
A very tall descendant rose above all the students scurrying about the open field. Most of the students stopped to look at the tall descendant. It's shoulders were broad and large, supporting its large head and three big round eyes, each of which were a different color.
It directed everyone to their classes starting from class 1, which the big kids were a part of.
To class 3, which violet was a part of.
To class 4, which Vulcan was a part of.
To class 8, which I was a part of.
I followed a few kids into the school. We were the only ones entering the school. Everyone else stayed outside where I wanted to be.
