The next day, Emily was at school replacing her books and notebooks for the next subject during her lunch break. But before she was done, there was a ping on the speakers and the voice of the principal spoke through the speakers.
"Paging Emily Lilith Molina, please come to the principal's office immediately."
Confused, Emily quickly placed her books for the next subject into her bag and shoved it inside her locker and closed it before she walked towards the office. When she went inside, she saw the principal sitting behind the desk. What's more, is that someone else was in the room. It was Rebecca and she was sitting on a chair in front of the principal.
The principal saw Emily enter the room, "Ah, you're here. Please take a seat." she said,
Emily obeyed and sat on a chair across Rebecca, and asked, "What's the situation, ma'am?"
"Why don't you tell me about it yourself?" the principal replied,
Emily was confused, "What are you talking about? Also, why is she here?" she asked pointing to Rebecca.
"Rebecca, here, said that you stole something that belongs to her." The principal answered,
"I didn't steal anything, ma'am," Emily said,
"Uh, yeah you did." Rebecca chimed in, "You stole my brooch."
"What does it look like by the way?" the principal asked,
Rebecca took out her phone and showed her a photo, "It had a red gem on the center," she stated,
"Mhmmm." The principal muttered then shifted her gaze at Emily, "Does this ring any bell?"
"I don't remember stealing anything, ma'am," Emily spoke,
Rebecca scoffed, "You're wearing it right now!" she said pointing to the brooch that is on Emily's jacket.
"Who said it was yours, to begin with?" Emily said, "Also, you tried to steal this away from me."
"Enough, you two." The principal said, "Young lady if you don't return what you stole, I'm afraid that I'll have to expel you from this school."
"What!?" Emily exclaimed, "But I didn't ---"
"However, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I called your parents. They should be here by now." The principal said,
Rebecca's eyes widened, "Wait, what?"
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Knock Knock.
"Come in." The principal called out,
The door opened and Emily's mom walked into the room and someone else too. It was none other than Jonathan.
"What are you doing here, Uncle Jonathan?" Emily asked,
"I was gonna ask the same thing," Jonathan replied then looked at Rebecca, "Now what is it this time?"
"I'm glad you two could make it." The principal said, "Now, Mr. Manuel, do you ever recall seeing your daughter owning a brooch of some sort?"
"Not that I know of," Jonathan replied,
"By the way, what's this all about?" Emily's mom asked,
"Well, as you can see, we're trying to find out if your daughter stole something from Rebecca." The principal answered,
"Huh?" Emily's mom said,
"Now let's cut to the chase." The principal said, "Rebecca reported that Emily stole her ruby brooch and would not return it."
"Hold on. I don't remember ever giving my daughter something like that." Jonathan said,
"Do you have any evidence to back it up?"
"I--uh, sadly no,"
"I see," The principal said then turned to Emily, "And Emily, when did you receive this brooch that you're wearing?"
"I received it the other day, ma'am." Emily replied, "A couple of my dad's friends came over to my house and they gave me this brooch."
"Ah, you don't say." The principal said and exhaled deeply, "I'm afraid that with the lack of evidence, I'll have to put both of you into suspension."
"WHAT?!" they exclaimed,
But a split second before anything else could happen, the door swung open and Sarah rushed into the office breathing heavily.
The principal was baffled, "What in the world-"
"Forgive me for barging in like that, but you've got to see this" Sarah said holding a flash drive in her hand. She handed it to the principal and stuck it into the laptop.
They all watched the video footage and were shocked about what they saw. The video featured the time when Emily was pinned down while Rebecca and her friends stole the ruby brooch.
"I even learned that Rebecca wanted that brooch and begged her dad to buy it for her." Sarah continued,
Rebecca, who was nervous, scoffed at that idea, "C'mon, it has to be edited and photoshopped." she said, "You can't seriously expect to believe this from a friend of Emily--"
"That's enough, Rebecca!" Jonathan said, "I know you wanted that and kept nagging at me about it but resorting to something like that is one reason I will never buy you that."
"But Dad--"
Jonathan looked at the principal then to Emily and her mom, "I apologize for the trouble."
"Apology accepted but I'm afraid that I'll have to give your daughter a suspension due to her actions. The same will go to her friends." The principal said, "Any questions?"
No one dared to say anything.
"Then it's settled. End of discussion. You may all leave. Thank you for your time." The principal said,
And with that, they all went out of the office. Jonathan walked up to Emily and her mom and said, "I'm sorry for what my daughter did to you. I assure you that it won't happen again."
"I'm just surprised that she's your daughter." Emily said, "No offense though,"
"Uh, yeah. I guess I forgot to introduce her to you back then."
"What matters is that everything's resolved and hopefully your daughter will learn her lesson." Emily's mom said,
Jonathan nodded, "For sure. I hope we don't have to see each other like this ever again,"
Then, Jonathan waved goodbye and walked with his daughter towards the exit. Emily's mom was about to leave but told her, "I better get back to work. Take care of yourself alright, honey?"
"I will, Mom." Emily said, "You take care as well."
They both smiled and Emily's mom walked towards the exit. On the other hand, Emily let out a huge sigh of relief.
"Thanks for having my back, Sarah." she said, "I never would've thought that I'd be in that situation."
"Well, it's over now." Sarah reminded her, "Now come on. We've got another class to go to."
"But I haven't had the chance to take a bite," Emily told her,
Sarah smiled and gave her a small brown bag. Emily looked in it and saw a doughnut inside.
"Thanks, girl," she said,
Sarah smiled, "No problem"
