Chapter 20 - Chapter 19: An Unease Tension at the Table

I took a deep breath fiddling with my fingers, smiling, and I asked, "So you two are not in the mood for appetizers I see." Sir Bertram stopped staring at me and looked away for a bit with a chuckle.

"Huh? Oh yes we aren't, we're just going to eat main courses today right Bellum?"

Bellum didn't take her eyes of me and she smirked yet again, "Yeah, we don't really feel like eating a lot today. But what about you though? Weren't you really hungry just now? Did your appetite leave?"

The inside of my stomach dropped and I said calmly, "No, I just decided not to order to much. Does that define my hunger if I don't order more than one plate?"

Her emerald eyes searched mine and it seemed like they were going to stay on me forever. Studying for something it seems, a weakness maybe? I could tell she was up to something, was she trying to get me to crack or spill something?

Sir Bertram adjusted his throat and both me and Bellum's eyes darted to him. "Is everything alright Sir. Bertram?" I asked with concern, knowing he did that to cut the tension.

He nodded, "Yeah sorry, I have no idea why, but I felt like something was trapped in my throat. It's all cleared now though." He smiled at me and his head eased to the side, mouthing "sorry".

I smiled back, slightly reassured but also not, because I knew these two were up to something. Did they know something? About what actually happened to Rene? Or maybe they knew something else, something that could tarnish my family name? Were they taunting me?

The waiter came back with our food just as my pondering continued. He smiled and asked, "Hello again, I'm back is everything doing well?"

"Yes Sir, thank you, wow it seems the time went by so quick and woah everything looks so good!" Sir Bertram said with excitement as Lady.Bellum nodded in agreement.

"Yes, everything looks absolutely swell. I am excited to dig in. I bet Miss Lady Victoria is even more excited though since she didn't eat much today."

The waiter's eyes went wide and he stared at me for a good minute, until he started passing out each of our plates.

Only my Lobster was cracked open for me while Sir Bertram's wasn't, having a set of prongs set for him.

Bellum's Prime Wagyu looked amazing too, her steak glistening with what seemed to be a delicate Yakiniku sauce.

Now that we all had our food set in front, Bellum used this as an opportunity to pray over it. Which I didn't mind, since I did this anyway with all of my meals.

It was a tradition I was taught when I was younger, but for some reason when I held hands with Bellum, a chill went up my spine. One that I wouldn't be able to explain till later on in my journey.
