Chapter 48 - Chapter 48

I sat there without moving. The reason was that I was noticed the difference between what Marionne experienced and what happened to us.

"Seb," I looked at my butler. " are portals usually different from each other? Also, is it normal for the demon beasts that came out of the portal to die when it's destroyed?"

Sebastiene touched his chin as he assessed it by his experience.

"Portals can be different, my lady. It depends on who opened the portal and where the portal was connected to." He looked at Marionne. "The demon beasts you encountered general, did they eat humans?"

Marionne's face was black as she nodded.

"I see." Sebastiene nodded thoughtfully. "The portal that general Marionne saw was a portal connected to a demon beast colony. That is why the beasts were attacking and eating people. As most portals are."

"What about the portal that appeared here?" Father asked him.

"That portal was connected to a different place." He looked over to me. "The demon beasts that attacked here were already dead."

"What?!" Father exclaimed.

Haktor and Marionne had a surprised look on their faces.

"Yes, the beasts you fought were already dead to begin with. They were merely puppets made to be discarded. They were only attacking because that was what the puppeteer wanted them to." Sebastiene explained. "And only one kind of ability can do that."

"A necromancer?" I asked him skeptically.

"Yes, my lady." Sebastiene smiled menacingly. "Those filthy things were controlled by a necromancer and they most probably came from a hidden laboratory."

Haktor looked at Sebastiene as his shocked expression changed into a smile. He started to laugh hysterically.

We all looked at him.

"Sir Sebastiene, I don't know where you came from but it seems that you didn't know." He smirked proudly. "Necromancers have been extinct for thousands of years. The first demon King hunted them endlessly until they all disappeared."

I looked at him and sighed.

"Oh? Did he now?" Sebastiene smiled amused.

"Yes." Haktor replied surely.

"What he is saying is true, Sir Sabastiene." Marionne also spoke up. "It is a quite a basic knowledge to everyone."

"I won't be too sure about that." Sebastiene commented before looking at me. "I can be sure that whatever left of them went hiding really well so as not be found out."

"Seb, when you were the demon king, how did you know that someone is a necromancer?" I asked him.

"Well, necromancers are easy to spot as they have a decaying smell around them. The older a necromancer is, the worse the smell and their body would also be made of different parts sewn together." Sebastiene explained.

"Why would they have parts like that? Isn't that way too obvious?" I asked again.

"Well, a necromancer will try to extend their lives, but the human body slowly decays as time goes by. So to contra it, necromancers would take parts of the body from others and connect it to them to extend their body's decaying state." He explained it in a way that would be easy to understand.

I nodded and was about to speak again when I noticed that Haktor and Marionne both have dark faces.

"General Haktor, General Marionne, are you okay?"

"My lady," Haktor said without looking at me. "Did you just say that Sir Sebastiene was a demon king?"

"Uhh.. yeah?" I nodded and looked at Sebastiene. "Did you not tell them?"

"No, my lady." Sebastiene replied. "I didn't find it necessary to inform others about my background."

"Ahh.." I shook my head in disbelief. "Introduce yourself to them Seb."

Sebastiene stood straight and smiled. "Sorry for the late introduction generals. I am Sebastiene Valittu Hebi, lady Melody's butler and a Knight of Noktis."

"Valettu.." Marionne whispered.

"Hebi.." Haktor looked like he was digesting something. "You have the same name as the first demon king?"

"Eh?" Sebastiene and I looked at each other. "No."

"Not the same name." Marionne whispered before realization hit her. "Sir Sebastiene, are you the first demon king?"

"Yes, that is correct general." Sebastiene smiled.

"W-wait.." Haktor said. "Shouldn't you be dead?"

"Do you want him dead General Haktor?" Father looked at Haktor quizzically.

"Of course not, Your grace!" Haktor replied flustered. "It's just what we all know."

"Demons live quite a long life general." Sebastiene chuckled.

"But you have been alive for more than five thousand years, sir Sebastiene." Haktor stated matter of factly.

"Perks of being a demon king I guess?" Sebastiene answered amused.

Haktor sat there stunned. Marionne looked like her spirit left her.

'Is Sebastiene really well known?' I asked myself as I looked at the silly demon beside me.

Father lighty cleared his throat to get our attention.

"Sebastiene, if it is indeed a necromancer, can he open a portal anywhere he likes?" Father asked. This was also a question I wanted to ask.

"No, Your grace." Sebastiene turned serious. "To create a portal, one must either have someone on the other side to open the portal or they must have some kind of print left in that place."

"So that means that it's either he has been here to be able to leave a print or that someone was here to help open the portal?" I asked.

"That is correct, my lady."Sebastiene nodded.

Tsk!

I guess saintess Sachi could be right. There could be a traitor amongst us. Whoever it is, they are really good at hiding.

"Anyway, this battle has proven two things to us. One, that we still lack manpower and two, the protection for the castle is weak." Father stated.

"We need to enhance the castle barrier. We can't allow something like this to happen again." I said.

I narrowed my eyes remembering that mother will have her tea party soon too. We needed to be safe enough for the ladies who will be attending.

"Yes, my lady." The generals both answered.

"By the way, where is the corpse of that wolf?" I asked them.

Haktor and Marrione looked at each other.

"What wolf my lady?" Haktor asked.

"The one that has electricity running through him." I aswered.

I looked at Sebastiene who just shrugged.

"I'm talking about the lycan!" I urged.

They just looked even more confused.
