The interview ended with Athy and Astrid agreeing on her pay and benefits, then a spirit maid guided Astrid to choose a room on the ground floor since the maid's residence was destroyed by Uriel.
After she left, we fell into a comfortable silence, helping father with his paperwork.
"What do we do now?" Uriel broke the silence in the room as we finished reading all the papers and reports on the desk and separating them depending on whether they'll be signed or not..
"No we go to the library and research about this world, its history, its monarchy, the enemies and the people." I answered her as I stacked the papers that are not to be signed in a box.
'We really need workers.' I thought. 'This kind of work would be easier on father if he has a trustworthy butler or assistant.'
"You should rest for the meantime father." Athy said as she stood up from the sofa and walked to the door. A spirit maid came in and Athy told her that they should start preparing our lunch. "A summoned spirit will call you when lunch is ready."
"I'll stay here and start signing these papers with your mother, since some also needs her signature instead." father looked up from the paper he was signing. Mother was sitting on the sofa using the coffee table as her work desk.
"Okay, we will be in the library." I told them before walking to the door followed by my sisters. I softly closed the door and went down stairs.
We started walking the long corridors to the library located on the far back of the castle's ground floor. The sound if the heels of our shoes click on the marble floor echeos on the castle's hallway. On the right were large closed windows with thick curtains letting only a little of the light from outside in. On the left was a long wall filled with paintings of landscapes and short pillars decorated with vases full of withered flowers, figurines or sculptures. As we walked, Uriel started to walk closer to Athy which irritated the later.
"Can you walk a little further?" Athy asked irritably, her voice echoing, making me look back at the two of them. "We would bump on each other if you start walking too close to me."
"It's too quiet that it's scary." Uriel responded. "It feels like ghosts would suddenly jump from the shadows."
Athy rolled her eyes at our sister's antics. She suddenly looked like she realized something then smirked at Uriel.
"Sister." she smiled at Uriel menacingly before saying, "did you forget that I am someone who summons ghosts? Do you want to.."
"Shut up!" Uriel slapped her on the arm before stomping over to me.
Athy and I laughed at her mumbling something under her breath. We continued walking and both Uriel and Athy were walking next to me bickering back and forth in our old dialect until we arrived at the library door.
I opened the door and a huge room, three stories high with shelves and shelves of neatly piled books, greeted me. It was something out of a magazine that were published back on earth. There were tables with benches tucked in used for studies and research. There were also couches and coffee tables for leisure reading or just lounging in the library.
"Wow." I can't help but express my amazement. We went in and looked up to the ceiling which was made of some kind of glass so you can see the sky. It would be a very beautiful place to look at the stars at night.
The three of us started exploring the first floor, to check the place. Athy went to the right and sat on the couch picking up a book lying there, Uriel started looking though the books on the shelves behind her while I looked at the books spread on the large table in the middle of the library.
"The letters look weird." Athy commented. "Yet I am able to read them."
It was true. The writing on the books were made of characters I have never seen before yet my brain immediately translates the characters I see into sounds and sounds into word thus making me able to read what was written.
"History of the Elleveire Kingdom by Vandous Enin." Athy read the title out loud before picking another book near her. ""The Elleveire Noble Houses by Harquin Enin."
"A book of world races:" Uriel also read out and her forehead creased. "From Humans to Demon kinds by Vitlaus Burvis. So he was also an author huh?"
"This floor is filled with history books, noble houses and territories." Athy said putting down a book after reading its title.
"This side talks about the different races found in this world." Uriel added.
"Some of the books here are books on manners and Elleveire Kingdoms territories and boundaries." I pointed at the pile of books on the table.
Uriel and I both went on the other side of the room and started pulling out books on the shelves there while Athy went towards the side with windows and looked outside.
"Manners, Arithmetic, literature." Uriel mumbled returning the book to the shelf. "These books makes me feel sleepy just by reading the titles."
"This floor is for studying the basics." I replied returning the book I was holding.
"I can't believe they have math here." Athy said as she approached us. "There is a huge garden outside by the way."
"Should we head up the second floor?" Uriel asked looking at the stairs near the door.
"We should start reading here." I went back to the table in the middle and opened a history book. "Let's start with History."
We all sat around the table and started reading the books on history.
"Elleveir Kingdom was once a part of the Arimoth Empire ruled by Emperor Francis Aridon Von Huoten the sixth. He was an undefeated warrior on the battlefield and a wise ruler, unfortunately, he was someone who collects beautiful women to his harem. On the emperor's seventeenth year of reign, he kidnapped a woman from the neighboring Alfien Kingdom south of the empire named Alvera Elquine to be one of his queen consorts. She was a respected knight and a daughter of a Marquis, she also served the god of Death as a priestess.
The marriage was against Alvera's will so during the wedding ceremony, Alvera used her ability to take her own life. The people of Alfien Kingdom went into mourning when they heard what happened to their beloved Alvera. The Saintess of Death and the other priestesses of the god of death locked themselves in their temple to mourn the death of their sister. Three days and three nights they prayed to Sidapa for revenge. Sidapa, the god of death, taking pity on his priestess sent numerous diseases and famine to the empire resulting the people to suffer. When the people of the empire heard the truth, an uprising happened and the entire Von Houten royal family was killed.
Without a leader, the empire was divided into four smaller kingdoms. The Kingdom of Ice and Snow, Frysta, located north of the old empire. Elleviere Kingdom, was the west, the Therodyn Kingdom to the south and the Levanter kingdom to the east. The kingdoms separated themselves and are now at peace with each other."
