Chereads / Daughters of House Castellan / Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Looking at this man my sister brought back from her walk, I can already tell that he is something else. My spirit knight, Havel El Bryce, has been on alert since he came in. I can feel the other spirits being anxious with him inside the room.

He was a tall and shabby man with long messy black hair, up to his waist, and he has red eyes with slits like a snake or a cat. He was wearing a weird black robe with embroidered design made of gold threads. He was barefooted but he was wearing some kind of anklets.

I put all the papers aside and gestured for the spirits to go back first after giving him a seat across me. I looked at him and crossed my hands on the table giving him my full attention.

"Hello. I am Athanasia Alai Castellan, please state your name and the position you are applying for." I inquired in a very business-like tone.

His eyes went wide before he shook his head slightly while chuckling. I frowned. He took a deep breath and a set smile was painted on his face.

"I am Sebastiene Valettu Hebi, a demon from the Hebi clan in the North-east territory of Westreon." He answered looking at me intently. "I have been recruited by the little girl.."

I raised my eyebrow at him.

"Ehem" He cleared his throat. "I mean Lady Melody, to be her butler."

"Where did my sister meet a demon like you?" I asked.

"I was.." He smiled slyly. "I was passing through the forest when she met me earlier."

"Passing through?" I looked at him with a slight frown. "Mr. Hebi.."

"Please call me Sebastiene." His sly smile never left his face.

"Mr. Sebastiene, were you trespassing on our castle grounds?" I asked still slightly frowning.

"I did it unintentionally my lady." He looked aggrieved at what I said. "I was travelling by foot and just got into the forest without knowing that it was already a part of the castle's grounds."

I stared at him unemotionally.

He just sat still with a set smile, not giving out anything he was really thinking.

"Haaaah.." I sighed as I find people I can't read annoying and I hate dirty things, like him. "Since my sister recruited you, you must be either very strong or have an outstanding background."

His smile became wider as if he was happy or proud.

"I did fought with her earlier." He shrugged.

"Oh? Who won?" I asked.

"Who do you think?" He smiled slyly.

Stupid.

"She completely destroyed you, didn't she?" I smirked honestly feeling glad.

The smile disappeared from his face and a strong bloodlust was felt coming from him. His red eyes glowed with malice as he looked at me.

"Would you like to check for yourself little girl?" He asked.

Very stupid.

"Come forth.." I called my strongest summon. "Sidapa."

The god of death, Sidapa appeared on top of the table holding his black long sword. He was wearing a black robe just like what Sebastiene was wearing and golden anklets adorned his feet. He has big golden hoop earrings and his golden eyes were glowing. His white hair was flowing lightly as well as his robe. He has a faint glow around him like a halo.

"Such a strong bloodlust towards my vessel." He smiled at Sebastiene. "Are you tired of living for so long, first demon king?"

Sebastiene swallowed hard before retracting his blood lust and kneeling down to Sidapa.

"I wouldn't dare my god." He answered looking up with fear eminent on his eyes.

Beads of sweat were rolling down his face.

'He must really be afraid of Sidapa.' I thought seeing his reaction.

"Then why were you trying to kill her?" Sidapa's smile disappeared.

"I was merely trying to show the little girl my strength to be accepted as Lady Melody's butler." He smiled awkwardly at me asking for help.

I gave him a blank look.

"A butler?" Sidapa picked his ear using his pinky finger. "You? The first demon king? The strongest demon alive? You want to become a butler for a little girl?"

"I lost to her in a fight, agreeing to do whatever the winner wants." He embarrassingly admitted

looking down.

"Pffffttt.. Hahahahahaha.." Sidapa guffawed at his confession.

"I knew it." I snickered at him.

Sebastiene was red in embarrassment yet Sidapa continued laughing like hearing the funniest joke.

"You lost? To that little girl? Hahahahahaha.. How?" Sidapa asked as he wiped the tears brimming his eyes.

"She used her binding ability so I couldn't move." Sebastiene replied.

"Oh? And you couldn't unbind yourself?" Sedapa asked amused.

"I couldn't see the bind." Sebastiene defended himself. "I couldn't overpower the vessel of the goddess of life either."

"Of course you won't see a 'bind', she wasn't using any." I corrected him.

His head snapped up to look at me.

"My sister has the ability to control liquids," I smiled at him. "she basically just controlled every liquid found in your body to stop you from moving."

Sebastiene's astonished look was something I will treasure.

Sebastiene's POV

Duped.

I was duped!

I felt very stupid to pick a fight against a goddess' vessel but learning that I was very confident to say that I was strong enough to unbind that little girl's binding ability, which isn't even a bind, was the dumbest thing I did. Being told all this by a little girl that is obviously overjoyed at my misery right now, feels even worse. To think two daughters of House Castellan are vessels! Just how blessed is this house?

I composed myself and smiled at the little girl. "Thank you for the information my lady."

She looked at me then smirked.

She smirked at me!

She is definitely enjoying this.

"Do you know him Sidapa?" She asked the god of death without even the slightest respect in her voice.

"He is the first demon we gods and goddesses crowned as king of all demons. He is also without a doubt the strongest amongst them during the selection at that time." The god answered her, not even minding her disrespect. He sat on the edge of the table with his left leg crossed over his right

"But he got destroyed by eldest sister so easily." The little girl replied not even giving me face. "I bet she didn't even raise her hand or move from where she was when she defeated him."

I sighed. I give up. I will never win against these sly little girls.

"Do not underestimate him little girl. He is definitely stronger than most people, he will be a good addition to your house's power." I felt proud of what the god, Sidapa, said. "You and your sisters are just too overpowered that you feel no one is stronger than you."

The god of death turned to me.

"But why are you applying as a butler?" He asked. "You could as well be a knight or a warrior?"

"I was actually recruited as a butler and a knight by the eldest daughter." I answered honestly.

"No wonder." The little girl crossed her arms. "Eldest sister wants to have a strong butler, that's why she recruited you."

"Well, it's good if he is here." Sidapa patted the little girls head. "If I don't have to fight, I'm going back. There are a lot of things to do in the underworld"

The little girl bopped her head and Sidapa winked at me.

"Enjoy your time here Seb." He said before he disappeared.

The little girl and I are left alone again.

The little girl sat straight and crossed her hands on the table, looking all serious again.

"You may sit again." She commanded.

"Do you still want to try fighting me?" She asked.

Like hell I would! Tsk!

"Of course not little girl." I smiled.

'It would be the same as committing suicide if I did.' I thought to myself.

"Good." She nodded. "Now, let's talk about your job, do you accept Melody's proposal of being a butler and a knight?"

"I accept." I answered seriously.

"That's good to hear. Now, about your pay, benefits and schedule." She started talking about this and that and work.

"You can start working tomorrow afternoon." She said. "But first, you should learn manners and the ways of a butler. I will send an old butler to teach you tomorrow morning and he will decide your training. You may go choose your room on the ground floor."

"I understand little girl." I smiled as I stood up and walk to the door.

"First thing you need to know as a butler is how to address the members of the family you work for." She looked at me sharply.

"Of course, my lady." I smiled at her before leaving.
