Chereads / Daughters of House Castellan / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"Count Polit has declared war against House Castellan." The messenger informed.

I looked at the messenger. He had a clean cut hair, crisp white long-sleeved button-down shirt. He was wearing brown pants and brown boots. He looked like he just got out of bath and on his way to a date. Tsk.

"You said Count Polit crossed the river and is on his way here with his army?" I stood up and asked him.

"Yes my lady." He replied."I rode my horse all the way here from the front. I am one of the knights stationed at the Riverforth fort."

"I see." I said as I turn around to face my father. "I will take care of it father."

"War is too much for you to handle." Father replied. "I will go instead."

"No. You will stay here and I will take care of Count Polit." I looked at my father straight in the eye. "Leave wars and battles to me father."

"My lady, I apologize but I will have to agree with His Excellency," the messenger interrupted, "there are too many scary things in a battle. You will also have to kill people. Killing is not something my lady will be able to do."

"How much?" I asked him as I summoned my sword, Vita.

"I do not understand what you mean my lady?" he asked looking at me with his eyebrows furrowed.

"I'm asking you how much they paid you to betray our noble house?" I looked at him straight in the eye.

"M-my lady," he started but before finishing his sentence, he suddenly launched at me with a dagger. I parried him with my sword and hit his hand, his dagger went flying and my sword was pointed at his throat.

"M-my l-lady I didn't.."

I did not let him finish his sentence. I cut his throat with my sword. His blood sprayed right in front of him. He tried to stop it by covering his throat with his hand. He looked at me horrified before his body dropped on the floor with a thud. Mother turned her back from the view, Athy covered her nose while closing her eyes and Uriel covered her face with her hands.

"Killing is no problem for me." I looked at my father. "Besides the both of us, mother and my sisters are scared of blood. We are the only ones who can withstand blood and killings."

"I don't think I can actually kill someone."father replied looking at the body on the floor. "I didn't think you could actually kill someone without batting an eye."

"Didn't you kill him too rashly sis?" Uriel asked. "How did you even know he betrayed us?"

I looked at the body on the floor. "He is too clean to be in Riverforth and ran her all the way. Not even a hair out of place, not a smudge of mud on his boots." I replied.

"Can someone clean it up? I feel like vomiting from seeing it."Mother said not even facing front.

Father called for the guards to inform his butler to clean up the body. When the guards and the butler came in, the shock is clearly seen on their faces. The butler looked at my father and then looked at me. His face showed curiosity at why I was holding a bloody sword. Then his face turned to that of horror when realizing that I was the one who killed.

"Butler, clean that up and ready my horse, I will go to Riverforth."I informed him. A few moments later two men came in and carried the body out. Two maids came in with buckets and started to mop the blood on the floor, they went out after.

"My lady, Riverforth will be attacked by Count Polit soon, you cannot play there right now." The butler, Rick, told me.

"I am not going there to play," I said looking at him, "I will be leading the knights against Count Polit."

"My lady, you are too young! You are but ten years old only." Rick panicked. "The knights are expecting His Excellency to lead them. His Excellency should be there, not you."

"I didn't know that butlers are the ones to make decisions in our house now." I looked at him sharply.

Rick immediately knelt to the ground and bowed his head.

"I wouldn't dare, my lady." He said with his hand clenched to a fist.

I turned to Uriel and mouthed 'Traydor' (Traitor), which she immediately nodded in understanding.

"Go and prepare my horse. I will be down in a moment." I dismissed him.

The butler looked at me before bowing towards my father and he left closing the door behind him. I looked at my parents and rolled my eyes sarcastically.

"Sis, Athy, there seems to be a lot of traitors within the house. Make sure to check each and everyone of them. I will take care of them when I return." I told my sisters.

"Okay. It will be a good place to try my summoning abilities." Athy replied."I could even use this time to practice my other abilities."

"Maybe you can use your summoned spirits to spy on everyone here?" Father said. "It will be easier to find traitors if your spirits can hide everywhere and listen to them speak then transmit their words to you."

"Yes, I'll try try to do that." Athy nodded.

"Do you need to change outfit sis?"Uriel asked me.

"No need," I replied and then smirked at her, "I won't take too long. I'll use this chance to see how strong my ability is in a fight."

"Okay." Uriel nodded.

We all went down and they watched me ride my horse. It is my first time to ride a horse but Melody had practiced riding it for fun so my body remembers the feeling and I find it easy to do so. There were four knights that were assigned to escort me to Riverforth. I guess they weren't informed that I will be going instead of father since the all looked surprised.

"I will be going now." I said as I looked at my family.

"Take care of yourself." Father nodded.

"Will you be home before lunch or dinner?" Uriel smirked.

"I'll be back before dinner."I smirked back. "You know what to do sis, I will leave it to you."

The servants and knights that heard our exchange were shocked at how calm and confident we were. Even if the butler had his head bowed, I could feel a slight bloodlust from him. Either my abilities or my senses are telling me he was dangerous.

I nodded my head towards my parents and winked at my sisters, which earned me eye rolls from them, and I had my horse galloping to Riverforth.
