Adanna
No, I couldn't shake it off, the image of them together. Who would've thought that it could ever be possible? Was that the reason behind volunteering to be in charge of his meds?
What about her husband, her son?, my mum? They were Friends sisters even.
Friends don't do that to each other do they? She wasn't just my mum's friend, she was mine too, my bestfriend.
The picture perfect horizon helped to calm my nerves, it was far better than any painting or photo. The beauty of nature.
The serenity of the plane set me free of all my burdens and worries even if it was just for a fleeting moment. I didn't want to think about any of it but I couldn't avoid it.
The next few hours were spent drifting in and out of oblivion. Till it was time to land.
"Welcome to London" The flight attendant said with a polite smile ushering me off the plane. I made my way down the stairs, staring far off into the distance in awe.
"Adanna!" He yelled beckoning me over. Even jetlagged he was enticing. **sigh**
"We need to talk" he muttered gliding his tongue over his plump lips.
"We, don't need to do anything" I gestured between us making my way past him.
_________
Once again I was stuck in his car with him, riding shotgun, only this time fully conscious. I had no idea why he was coming with us on this impromptu trip.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the affair, but it wasn't entirely my story to tell and it still isn't" he sighed.
"How long have you know?" I whispered, having little to no trust in my temperament.
"Since Myra left" he mumbled under his breath.
I noted how he referred to her as Myra not mum come to think of it, I've never actually heard him call her mum, it's just something that's never happened.
"Left? What do you mean by that?" I asked with genuine curiosity.
"Look, it's been a really long day, you of all people should know that,so can we just..." he sighed, pressing his lips together.
I tried my best not to read deep into,it if he didn't want to tell me then that's okay but I was going to find out exactly what's happening.
A simple pink duplex came to view, it wasn't plain but it was simple.
It was a quiet neighborhood, A measurable distance between each house and that's as private as it gets no gates,no fences nada... weird.
He pushed the blue button ringing the doorbell, when that didn't work he banged his fist on the door three times. A few minutes and some persistent knocks later it was pulled open.
"Kosi?" I stared at her in disbelief her petite figure mirroring my expression.
"It's you, you're Adanna? What are the odds?"She squealed, nearly squeezing me to death.
"Come in" she breathed out ending her short rant. If she lives here then what was she doing in- does it really concern me. Not entirely so it stays unquestioned.
I made my way through the door first, turning to face him once we were in. Taking in a deep breath.
"I may not know what is going on but I'm going to find out" I whispered glaring at him.
"Well you must be Adanna"
A cheery voice said. She was a chubby dark skinned woman of average height dressed in a really bright pink floral top, white denim Jeans and a red apron with the word shhh in bold letters.
She blended right in with the interior design of vivid colors.
The whole place looked like Cinderella was handed a paint brush and a bucket of barbie's puke and this happened.
She looked extremely familiar with her oval shaped face, full plump lips, her eyes a light shade of brown almost... golden
"Good Evening M-" she pulled me in for a tight hug her enthusiasm was infectious, well at least I see where kosi gets it from.
"Call me susan,I see you've met my daughter kosi" she said with an even larger grin, gesturing towards the petite figure slumped down on one of the red fluffy sofa's littered all around the room.
The panda white marble staircase was a sight to behold it seemed to be one of the only semi neutral colored objects.
A sweet savoury smell awakened my tastebuds, my stomach grumbled. I was starving, It was taking every ounce of my restraint for me not to barge into that kitchen.
"Stupid Ethics" I grumbled slumping down on the couch
"Noah?" Miss Susan called out softly a slight sparkle in her eyes, inspecting every inch of his face.he pulled away clearing his throat in an awkward manner.
I brushed off the tension between the two, it didn't concern me plus I needed to learn how to mind my business its proven to be a rather healthy lifestyle.
I turned to face the peach colored drapes that cascaded from the ceiling at each corner of the room.
"Pretty"
"Kosi will see you to your rooms your mother and sisters have already settled in, so freshen up dinner will be ready shortly" she said with a smile making her way to the kitchen.
I really did need a shower or a long warm relaxing bath.
