Chapter 6 - Chapter five

Adanna

With my tush firmly placed on the toilet seat.I got my mom's matte black nail polish out of the pouch and got down to business.Gliding the brush drenched in polish over my toe nails till each one was fully coated along with my finger nails.

I sat down impatiently waiting for it to dry, once it was dry I wiped off my make up hopping into the shower.

It was already 4:00am in the morning plus reapplying the makeup was going to take time so better early than late.

"I'm in the shower!" I yelled over the sound of someone banging against the door.

"I need to wee" he groaned out in frustration.

"Well hold it in, I'm almost done" I grumbled loud enough for him to hear.

Quickly rinsing off I wrapped myself in a white fluffy towel that stopped just above my knees.

Double check, just to make sure the towel won't "accidentally" slip and fall off right in front of him. Now that would be a show wouldn't it?

My hair was dripping wet, tiny water droplets rolled down my body pooling at my feet.

He took a few startled steps backwards giving me a once over. His fervent gaze forced goosebumps on my skin.

The awkward atmosphere was suffocating. He stepped aside letting me through, I could still feel his hot gaze burning holes through my back.

I rushed in leaning against the door for support. What was he still doing here? I hope he doesn't make it a habit of interrupting my showers.

_________

"Perfect" I smiled at my reflection, I was never really a fan of makeup but it had it's perks.

What were the pros and cons of walking out like this or even doing this at all.

Would I feel better or worse?

Every strand of hair was piled backwards bringing out the roundness of my face and my not so flat forehead.

I made my way towards my mothers room for what felt like the tenth time today.

The sound of water splashing and the sight of an empty bed made my job a whole lot easier.

I tip toed towards her shoe rack in search of something simple and casual but most importantly black.

My gaze was set on a pair of four inched stilettos with a simple pair of flats beside them.

The stilettos were a weird shade of black with maroon colored straps while the flats were as simple as they were pretty.

"What are you doing?" Her voice startled me.

I turned to face her, arms folded against her chest and her head tilted slightly to the side in a questioning manner.

"N-Nothing" I stuttered out rising to my feet with both pairs of shoes hidden behind me.

She arched a perfectly carved brow at me.

"Is that …?" she asked making her way towards me with an outstretched arm and a hardened gaze on my face.

"The door?" I retorted nervously, ducking under her arm making my way towards the door.

"Adanna?" she called out my grip on the knob tightening. I didn't need her talking me out of it, she was very persuasive when she needed to be.

"Don't do something you'll regret later on just, just think about it" she sighed palming her left cheek in the process.

I nodeed making my way out of the room. That was close, I strapped the stilettos on.

Balancing myself on both feet, I had a bad feeling about this, it probably wasn't going to end well.

When it comes to me nothing involving heels ever does.

Step by step I made my way down the stairs on wobbly feet. My hands tightly gripping the railing. Just four more to go, I can't believe I'm actually doing it, usually by now I'd be planted face first on the floor. But I'm actually doing it this time.

I pumped my fist in the air in triumph loosing my balance, my hand slipped from railing.

I tumbled down the rest of the stairs landing on my butt with a muffled thud. Moments like these make some women wonder why shoes like these even exist.

Please don't be broken, please don't be, I groaned running the sore spot trying to ease the pain.

"What happened?" Ikenna asked both in concern and amusement.

"Are you alright?" He asked again tilting his head a little to the right. Just like my mum previously.

"Yup" I said popping the "p" his eyes widened for a split second.

Taking in my reformed appearance he froze gazing down at me with wide eyes.

Recomposing himself,He stretched out his arm in an attempt to help me get back on my feet. I shrugged it off, swapping the death traps for the simple pair of flats.

Probably should've just worn those from the very beginning.

I made my way to the dining room at a much more comfortable pace. The plush material kissed my aching soles.

A fully dressed Chioma and Simdi sat side by side munching on some cereal with the former's eyes set on me glaring at me in a challenging manner.

Chuckling I made funny faces, She struggled to maintain her wavering facade.

I continued till she burst into a fit of laughter cereal splashing all around her.

"You got this all done by yourself?" I asked gesturing towards her and Simdi's packed lunches.

"No" she mumbled with a mouth full of cereal.

"Then who did?"

"I did" he voiced out in response.

"Why?" I asked turning to face him with my arms folded against my chest.

"You took almost an hour plus getting dressed so I thought I'd help with a few things, And uhm you look good by the way, well you've always looked good" he said sheepishly muttering the last few lines making it seem like an after thought.

Mumbling a quick thank you I made my way to the kitchen in search of the half empty cereal box.

My stomach growled, I was really hungry maybe just a few spoons of cereal and that's it.

it's protruding figure taunted me, At this rate I may not be able to see my feet at the end of the month. Was breakfast really important?

Maybe just not today.
