Chapter 3 - Act 3: The Governor's House

Madison and Mason arrived at the Village of Bèlen along with Caesar, the Governor's butler told them that if they worked hard in the household, they will double the pay and it will be every 15 days. Madison and Mason were happy to hear this and got motivated.

When they finally arrived at the Governor's mansion, Caesar escorted the twins to the Governor's office to give them the application for the work for the household and when they arrived at the office, Madison seems to be a little bit nervous, Mason noticed this and asked her, "Madison, everything's going to be alright."

"Huh? Oh? I'm alright... Thank you, Mason." Madison replied.

"So then, I shall open the door of the Governor's office." Caesar said, as he opened the door of the office.

Caesar greets the Governor in a polite manner, "Good morning sire. I, Caesar have returned from a long journey."

The Governor replied, "I see. Well Caesar, looks like you brought yourself a guest. Can I ask for their name?"

Madison introduced herself and her twin brother, "I-I'm Madison and this my brother, Mason. It's an honor to meet you."

The twins bowed down and the Governor told them to raise their head as he will introduce himself.

"Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Marcel De Luna, pleased to be your acquaintance. So, what brings you here?"

Caesar replied, "Your honor, they said that they will be living here in Bèlen, but unfortunately, they don't know where and how should they start their living here so, I recommended that they should work here in the mansion as a butler and a maid."

"Maid, you say. It's sad to say, but this house has already 54 maids, I can accept Madison's application, but you will work as a butler because it may not look like it, but Caesar and Thomas are the only butlers here in my household." Marcel said.

Hearing this gives Madison some thought that if she works here as a butler then the chances are quite a bit high for her to work with Mason, so she accepted the offer.

Marcel nods and said, "Well then, glad to have you work here. Caesar I would like you to tell the maids to prepare these two their uniforms. And Madison and Mason, there is one thing that I would like to ask."

Mason asked, "What is it, sir?"

Marcel replied, "How old are you both?"

Madison answered, "We're turning 15 this year."

"I see, well that's all I want to know. And Caesar, could you kindly call Thomas after you walk this two around the mansion." Marcel said

Caesar replied, "As your wish sir."

And so, Caesar guided the two around the mansion and while walking around the mansion, there are maids gossiping about them, whispering if what relationship they had each other.

Hearing those, Mason got a bit annoyed, but Madison stopped him and told him to ignore it.

"Don't bother them sir Mason, they're like this if there's anyone new in the mansion." Caesar said.

Mason replied "Oh? It's okay, I don't really mind them. Um... Could you please drop the 'sir'?"

"Well if you insist." Caesar said.

Before they stroll around the mansion, Caesar asked, "Madison, is there anything you like?"

Madison answered, "Well, if there is something like a library, then I would be really happy. I love books."

Caesar replied, "I see..." Then asked Mason, "What about you, Mason?"

Mason answered, "If possible, I would like to train myself."

"And why is that, lad?" Caesar curiously asked.

Mason confidentially answered, "If I trained myself, then I will be able to protect Madison."

Caesar replied, "I see... Then Madison, you love books, right? Let's head together to the library."

And so, they went to the mansion's library, Madison loves books, but Caesar told them that don't enter the library because Marcel said that it is no ordinary library, but it's the "Forbidden Library of Magic".

The twins wondered if there is such thing as Forbidden Library and Caesar answered them that it really exists.

Caesar tells them the history about how magic entered the world, "30 years ago, just after the great war of Nepal and Alberta, there's a cult that was formed in the Northern Lands that time and they call themselves "The Hades Witch Cult. Surely you've heard this kind of cult before and there are rumors that every 13 years they raid in a village kidnapping 13 children boy and girl and looking for a fine maiden as a candidate."

"A candidate for what?" Mason asked.

Caesar continued, "A candidate for the term 'Possession' and 'Spirit Replacement', in other words they are looking for a candidate's body to be possessed by the Great Witch of Hades who caused the Great plague 300 years ago."

The two was shocked and they remembered a story in a book about a plague that spreads in the North, long time ago.

Mason asked "Then that means-"

"Yes, magic became familiar to other people nowadays. It may not look like it but some of these maids have encountered witches." Caesar said.

"What!? Witches!?" Madison shockingly asked.

"Yes, you heard me right. I too, had encountered witches since I was 15 and they are the ones who destroyed my village and killed my parents. If only I could become stronger that time..." As Caesar clenches his fist with a regretful face.

"I'm sorry Caesar, actually the reason why Madison and I are here is because we fled from the village." Mason said.

Caesar replied, "Oh? So, you too were the victims of these witches also. If that's the case, then I should also train you on how to kill witches."

Mason agreed and nodded, and Caesar continued to walk the twins around the mansion, until he walked them to their room.

Seeing the room so clean and big, Madison was so happy that she doesn't know how to repay the Governor as thanks, but she swore that she will work hard as a butler of this house.

Caesar informed the twins, "Tomorrow afternoon, we will head out to the blacksmith."

Madison asked, "What are we going to do at the Blacksmith?"

Caesar answered, "Of course we will buy weapons."

"Weapons for what?" Mason asked.

"For hunting witches." Caesar answered.

"What? Really!?" Mason asked.

Caesar replied, "Yes, in our household, it is part of our job is to witch hunt. You probably saw my sword in the carriage, Madison?"

"If I'm not mistaken, I think I saw one." Madison answered.

"I have that sword since I applied here in the Governor's household. My friend, Thomas is the one who bought that for me and send me to a training camp that specializes only in supernatural beings like witches. Well, it's getting late, you should rest for now. I hope you prepare yourselves for tomorrow." Caesar explained.

The twins thanked him, and Caesar told them that if they are going to choose a weapon, it should be the one fitting to your skills. So, the two prepared their beds and get some rest.

Because tomorrow is the day that someone will test their skills.
