Asha Asha Asha, her name had never left my mind since I heard it. There was something about her that excited the beast in me, just something. When I first laid eyes on her, a fire had started in my bones, a fire that till today still hadn't gone out.
She was a beautiful person but she was human, totally not meant for me. I had struggled with sitting near her that first day because her scent was to die for, literally. She smelled like a rose garden with a hint of sea. Just so earthy and natural, my mind kept spinning. And as if she knew how she affected me, she kept staring at me all through the class, such torture.
I had resigned myself to watching and admiring her from afar even if that made me look like a creep, I didn't care. I just needed to be able to smell her and see her to calm down some. Goddess I was acting like a wolf pup desperate for his mom.
I still didn't understand why I was reacting to her so strongly, I mean she's not a Lycan or a wolf so that means the possibility of her being my soulmate is zilch, then again the moon loves to mess with us.
I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't hear the footsteps until the door to my office was flung open and one of my guards dashed in breathless, 'he must have run a mile' I thought to myself only to be halted when he said, "Alpha we have a breach on the north end of the lands".
That drove me into action, my thoughts brushed aside for later. "How bad is it and what came through?" I asked even as I stood up from my chair in the office and mind-linked Keith my beta.
"Tell me you're on your way north already", I asked in my mind even as I dashed out of my office leaving the guard and his reply behind.
Keith replied me instantly. "I'm almost there but according to the reports I received its rogue wolves". "I don't get it how did they manage to get past our defenses", I asked in shock.
"We haven't had rogue attacks for months possibly years now so why or even what are they thinking that would actually make them think their attack could get them anything other than death", Jesse my gamma said.
"That's the twist, they had help from witches", Keith replied. "What?!!!" Jesse and I asked in unison. "Guys that's my head, keep it down", Keith warned immediately. I'm guessing he was rubbing his temples by now.
"So what you're trying to say is that witches, well I'm going to just go ahead and say dark witches, helped a group of rogue wolves attack us, is that correct?", Jesse said the words I had in mind. "Yes and we need to catch them to find out why", Keith said even as we all appeared from different directions, turned and focused on our problem.
"Alright enough chit chat", I said through the mind-link, "business is here", after which I raised my walls again and I'm guessing everyone did the same. Can't afford to be distracted during a fight.
This area of the pack lands were the closest to our boundaries with the human settlements and this would not be the nicest of headlines if we messed anything up.
A few feet away from us, coming out of the trees were seven rabid looking wolves. One black as the night, with dead eyes, another brown with splotches of grey. Two red, I'm guessing twins as was the norm with twin wolves, though there was a little difference between them as one had black circles around the eyes while the other had black splotches under the belly. One grey, another completely brown and the last one cream-colored with red lines by the ears.
They were all colored differently but they had a common factor, they reeked of death as was the norm with rogues. This was not a fight at all, but a thrashing. Better not to underestimate them though, you never know with witches most especially dark witches.
I took a step forward as the leader of my pack, growled a low warning since you can't discuss verbally with wolves, as they can only understand the language of the jungle. I'm not sure they were well informed by the witches that helped them because they did the most stupid thing a wolf would ever dare do. They charged towards us poised for attack.
My pack worked with a different dynamic than others. It was a rare if not impossible thing to find both Lycans and werewolves in the same pack, the power would never be balanced but in our case, we were the leaders as we were the stronger of both.
The werewolves trusted us to lead and protect them as they had lost their leaders and would've subsequently lost their lives in the last war that ensued between the wolves and the night-crawlers.
The red twins charged towards Jesse while the black and the brown one charged straight for Keith leaving the last three, out of which surprisingly only the grey one poised to attack me leaving the other two the opportunity to change directions.
So that was their plan all along, to keep us busy and look for an opening then make a run for it. Well, big mistake…
I signaled my gamma and beta with my hands telling them to ensure the fight is finished in the forest and not out here on plain ground where it will become so much work to clean off after the fight is over.
With our choice of location settled, I smiled a sinister smile just as I charged for the grey rogue head on leaving the cream-colored and brown-black wolf room to escape or at least they thought so. Mid-way to the grey one I did a 180 turn to my left and ran straight into the cream colored wolf and just as I calculated, he was the weak link.
I grabbed the wolf by the neck too easily surprising the others who turned at the same time as I snapped its neck. Now sure, that the others were starting to rethink their strategy, I didn't give the brown-black rogue enough time to recover as I charged after it, jumped off a fallen tree and grabbed it by its hind limbs even as I slammed it on the fallen log. I'm sure I broke quite a number of bones but that's not the main aim here, I snapped its neck.
I was starting to have fun, I mean it's been a while I saw this much action even if it can't be called that. I was going to head for the grey one next when I noticed that Jesse and Keith already beat me to it, having disposed of the other rogues before I did.
One unspoken rule we had as Lycans was to always compete in fights, be it between ourselves or against wolves or other creatures. It was all about supremacy for the Lycans and today I was so not happy I wasted my time having fun as I had let myself get carried away.
Keith was smiling, looking like he hadn't just been in a fight and Jesse the annoying one, was totally smirking at me and shaking his head. Oh well, fun times over.
I walked up to them and asked, "Who got to him first?". Keith just smiled while Jesse was beaming like a light. Well that answers my question.
"Since you got to him first you decide, do we kill him after we keep him or just get the interrogations over with now and kill him?"
"Well if you're asking, you know you gotta be polite dude, I mean I got here first ya know. Took the both of you forever to get rid of some pups", he replied waving his hands all over the place. Dude loves to gloat.
"Jesse don't make me rethink the options I just gave you man, you better decide now or forget about it", he was just making me cranky now.
"Alright alright, damn man you just can't let someone have their fun uhn", he said exaggeratedly. "Since I have no choice, I'll ask him now so we can just get it over with".
And just like that he was in Gamma mode.
Jesse walked up to the grey rogue, who was cornered and shaking with fear, I almost pity him. Jesse was the worst interrogator among us. You see being Lycans meant we had authority even higher than that of alpha wolves, making it possible for our every command not to be disobeyed by wolves and Lycans except Lycans who weren't subject to our leadership. The minute Jesse was face to face with the rogue, he dropped to the wolf's level and commanded "Shift" and instantly the rogue transformed into its human version which was a light skinned man in his late twenties perhaps, naked as the day he was born, but that was nothing new to us.
Jesse skipped formalities and went straight to the point.
"So I know you had help from witches and I also know that you're pretty much pawns to them. Now what I wanna know is very simple, who are the witches that helped you and I need names".
The rogue was afraid as I could sniff his fear from where I was, leaning on a tree just like Keith, but he was bent on trying to hold out the information Jesse needed. He refused to say a word, just knelt there shaking.
Jesse left him to consider otherwise for a few seconds before he repeated his question only this time with the full force of his Lycan authority dripping from his voice.
It didn't take long before the rogue cracked and said a name, a name that had us all sharing a look of venom.
"It was Nixa Scarlet…. Nixa Scarlet", he replied even as Jesse snapped his neck in rage.
