Chereads / After Midnight | Park Jimin / Chapter 7 - S E V E N

Chapter 7 - S E V E N

(Y/N) has waited days for a word from Jimin or a call from the group but she received silence from both ends. No one has contacted her, no one has sent her a text message or an email. Days slowly turned into weeks. The amount of concern consumed inside of her turn into stress.

Jimin has never done this to her. He has never avoided or disregarded her calls but that's what it felt like to her.

'Did I do something wrong?'

She would ask herself every single hour of the day. Dreams turned into nightmares, making the girl unable to have any sleep. She would stay up until past midnight attempting to get some shut-eye but to no avail, it never happened. During work, she would constantly be spaced out, distracted, and exhausted. Subin was the first person who noticed this behavior and began to worry about her health.

He would constantly point out every single aspect that was unusual about her. During the lunch break, he would interrogate her if there was something wrong, and if she needed someone to communicate to but in the end, she would always tell him to not worry about her. Before all of this, she wouldn't get bothered by him, she would be happy whenever he was around. But now with this circumstance happening, she would rather be alone than to be socializing with him.

Minor headaches would turn into migraines. She couldn't concentrate at work, she couldn't finish off her documents on time, she couldn't do anything.

Until one particular day, an article began to trend number one on Twitter. Number one in the world, number one in South Korea.

An article that had her childhood friend's name plastered on the headline.

It wasn't good at all.

BTS's Park Jimin found beating up soloist Hyun-Seon* backstage during the end of M**

"WHAT!?" She cried out, shooting up from her chair. Oblivious to the fact that she screamed out loud during one of the busiest times in the office. People who were scampering back and forth from one meeting after another appeared to be frozen in time as they stared at the panicked girl.

"Who said that?!" The voice of the manager roared, stomping towards the scene. A couple of people remained silent but some pointed at her. Subin from the distance perked his head up from his cubicle, knowing too well that it was (Y/N).

'What did she do now...'

He thought, furrowing his eyebrows as he continued to eavesdrop, scowling at the people who had snitched at her.

"Ms. (L/N)." The manager declared, stopping in front of her as he positioned his hands on his hips. He was stunned to see one of the quietest employees shout like that.

"Care to explain-"

"Oh god, I think I'm going to puke..." The girl murmured, cutting his sentence off as she placed the palm of her hand up to her mouth.

He deadpanned at her in panic and disgust as he quickly backed up away from her.

Snatching her phone, she dashed towards the restroom as she dismissed the stares and shouts directed at her.

Fully inside the restroom, she stumbled inside one of the stalls and locked the door as she moved to sit down on the toilet seat. To her surprise, she didn't feel like throwing up anymore but she didn't want to face her co-workers again. Turning on her phone, she scrolled through her contacts and dialed Jimin's number.

No answer.

She dialed his number again.

No answer.

"What the fuck did he do..." She grumbled to herself. She still couldn't believe Jimin would do such a thing. He wasn't the type to quarrel with his fellow artists in the industry. The man respected everyone and the music they make but what could be the reason why he decided to beat up a soloist.

Biting her bottom lip, she decided to browse the article, even if it would physically hurt her to look over it.

During the end of the music show M**, Park Jimin could be detected separating from his group as he went up to Hyun-Seon who had debuted as a soloist recently. To the public eye, this would look like some friendly interaction between two idols but Hyun-Seon looked rather shocked and uncomfortable.

Since Hyun-Seon is new to the industry, he had never interacted with one of the most well-known idols, hence why he looked timid and surprised. Jimin on the other hand looked as if he met an old friend.

Some photographers had captured the moment before Park Jimin led the soloist off into the backstage. The rest of BTS looked startled as they attempted to find the missing member but with all the idols in one stage, it was hard to spot the small man.

As the idols left to the backstage to get fixed and ready to leave, a shout emitted from one of the changing rooms.

The staff of M** investigated the area and found Park Jimin kicking the soloist on the stomach as he laid helplessly on the ground in distress.

Some snapshots of the incident started to circulate around the internet.

Blurry photographs captured by some of the staff showed the soloist all bloody and injured while Jimin looked outraged and completely fine.

'This has to be some kind of joke.'

(Y/N) thought, mouth drooped open in disbelief. There had to be a purpose as to why he was committing this, he wouldn't just cause a scene out of nowhere.

M** and TN Entertainment* will be taking legal charges against the idol. BigHit Entertainment has yet to respond to all of this. Who would have thought a member from one of the most famous kpop groups would do something like this.

She plopped the rectangular device on her lap and sat still in silence. She didn't do what to do, she didn't know how to react. This was all new to her.

A tiny bit of her wanted to believe that this was all fake and staged. Jimin, one of the softest, innocent, and kindest men she has ever met has committed something like this.

The sound of her heartbeat could only be heard in the vacant restroom. Picking up her phone again, she dialed Jungkook's number but just like Jimin, he didn't answer.

The group and the company has been majorly impacted by this. It hasn't been the same once the members arrived back at their dorm that evening. Everyone was shocked. They couldn't even look at each other in the eye and have a normal conversation with each other.

Jimin had been taken away but it was if their one source of happiness has left. It didn't help them at all when the entire internet is threatening Jimin to leave the group. They felt bad for the ARMY's who were fighting to protect him.

(Y/N) was so close to giving up on calling him but there was still a glimpse of hope inside of her, begging her to at least contact Jimin a couple of more times. Ruffling her hair, she dialed the man's number again.

It began to ring.

After a couple of more rings, it came to a stop.

"...hello?..."

A soft and quiet tone of voice could be heard from the other side of the phone.

Without any hesitation, the girl began to yell out in outrage as she bombarded him with questions. She didn't care if someone nearby was eavesdropping at her, she just needed to get her emotions out of her chest.

"Jimin! Have you seen the news?! Why the hell did you do that?! Why haven't you been answering my calls?! Why haven't you texted back?! Don't you know how worried I was about you!!"

A few tears broke out from the corners of her eyes.

"You haven't said anything to me for weeks, not even days!! You idiot, don't you understand how much stress I went just to know if you're okay!! Did something happen when you went to your mother's house?"

"..."

"Are you even listening to me?" A hiccup accidentally left her mouth, followed by a row of sniffs.

"(Y/N)... are you crying?"

"...no... I'm not crying!"

His heart stung with guilt as he felt himself go unstable. He was struggling so hard to dismiss her but the sound of his phone ringing was making him go crazy. Every day, his phone would be booming, his notifications would be filled with messages from her. It was treacherous to him, to see how desperate she was to know about his wellbeing.

The past days when (Y/N) would deliver a message every hour, he would scan every single one of them but never replied. One point during the whole 'ignore (Y/N)' circumstance, his mentality took custody of his body and typed out a message to send to her but later on, he erased the whole thing.

Her lips quivered as she attempted to keep herself composed but her body couldn't stop. More tears proceeded to fall as loud hiccups erupted from her mouth.

Even after all the burden and struggle, she was just glad to hear his voice.

Jimin despised hearing her cry. He hated that he was the purpose behind it.

He was always the reason behind her unhappiness.

"It's okay (Y/N)... I'm fine."

"You're not fine! Tell me what's wrong and I'll try to help you!"

That was one characteristic that Jimin didn't really like about her. She was stubborn, just like he was but her stubbornness radiated more than his. In cases like this, she would constantly try to help him out but she never had the time to take care of herself.

Which Jimin hated.

"(Y/N)! There's nothing wrong with me! I'm completely fine-"

"Then how can you explain what's trending right now! Why did you do that? That person didn't do anything to you!"

Jimin opened his mouth to retort back but immediately shut it close when he began to realize that he was going to give out the reason why he did it.

His father wouldn't be happy if he accidentally slipped it out and word got around.

Sighing in frustration, there was only one thing the man could do for (Y/N) to stop worrying about him.

Lie.

"That man was absolutely insane! He kept talking shit about me and the members towards the other idols, I couldn't just let him get away with that!"

But in reality, the guy he had beaten to a pulp was harmless and he felt extremely awful for what he did to him. The fact that he enjoys the soloist debut songs makes him want to just crawl in a hole and perish. There was no way he could forgive him for what he did.

Maybe Jimin was the most stubborn one after all.

"You're lying..."

After wiping the tears off of her cheeks, she clutched onto the hem of her skirt and continued.

"Don't try to act smart with me, I could tell when you're lying. I thought you were more mature than this!"

"(Y/N)-"

"Just tell me the truth! I'll keep it a secret from everyone... Please..." She intercepted. Her heart rate was beating at an unnatural rate, she could pass out in any second.

"I..."

Jimin responded but then halted.

"Jimin?"

The girl questioned, nudging the device closer to her ear.

"I got to go."

"But-"

"Don't bother trying to call me ever again."

He hung up, leaving the girl in pure shock. The amount of blood pressure rushing through her head left her feeling nauseous. Not only that, a headache came to play, causing her to collapse onto the dirty, polished restroom tiles.

She blacked out inside the restroom stall.

That was also the last time Jimin has answered any of her calls.

Beep...

Beep...

Beep...

(Y/N) slowly opened her eyes, the luminous white ceiling came into view. She attempted to lift her hands but she felt a small long tube connected from her hand to a machine. Blinking to gain back consciousness, she looked around her surroundings.

'Am I in a hospital?'

She asked herself. Lifting herself up, she sat up straight with a troubled look plastered on her face.

'Why am I here? Who brought me here? How can I not remember?'

In deep thought, she tried to remember what had occurred before she woke up but no recollection came to mind. That was when the sound of a small groan erupted from the right side of the room. Turning her head to the right, she spotted a person, a man, laying down on the couch with a flimsy white blanket draped over his body.

Even though his back was facing her, she could tell that the man was sleeping in a rather uncomfortable position.

Clearing up her throat, she began to speak.

"Hello?" She called out towards him, her voice sounded dry and raspy. Although she disliked to wake up someone from their sleep, she wanted to know what was happening to her and why she was here.

"Excuse me?" She asked in a louder tone, feeling a bit embarrassed at what she was doing. That apparently caused him to shift around the couch. Now with his face entirely in view, the girl's eyes enlarged in shock.

"Jungkook?"

Even though her voice was soft and quiet, the man's brown eyes shot open. Yanking the blanket off of him as he stood up and peered down at her figure, his mouth was left hanging open. She gave off a nervous yet confused laugh as she grinned up at him.

"Um... hi?"

"(Y/N)!!!"

He cried out, wrapping his arms around her shoulders as he felt her body flinch from the contact. Eventually, she wrapped her arms around his torso as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"(Y/N)! You don't know how much I was worried about you!" His arms tightened around her as the speed of his heart fastened.

She let out a chuckle as she rubbed his back, "Well, I'm awake now. So, can you explain to me what happened?" She could feel how fast his heartbeat was going.

Taking a hold of the situation, Jungkook unwrapped his arms around her and widened his eyes more in realization.

"So you really are awake?" He asked, pinching himself on the arm. He still couldn't tell if it was a dream or if it was real. Has she really woken up?

"I don't think this is a dream." She answered, tilting her head to the side as she examined his facial expression.

'Why is he acting like this?'

She thought, a small pout forming on her lips.

Abruptly, he bolted towards the door, telling a nearby nurse to come to (Y/N)'s aid. She deadpanned at the man, she didn't seem to be feeling unwell. Why would he call a nurse all of a sudden?

In a second a nurse stood at the entrance of the door and gaped at the girl in surprise.

"Doctor!" The nurse yelled out as she darted through the hallway, "Ms. (L/N) is awake!"

Jungkook came back to (Y/N)'s side as he stared at the girl in shock.

"Jungkook what's wrong? Did something happen to me?" She questioned, eyes quivering in panic. Why were both the nurse and Jungkook stunned?

"Oh right, I haven't told you yet... You see, you've been asleep for 2 weeks."

"...WHAT?!"

'2 weeks?! I've been asleep for 2 weeks?!'

"I went to your house because you weren't picking up any of my calls. That's when I found you unconscious inside your bedroom..."

He gripped her shoulders as his hands began to shake.

"I've tried waking you up but you weren't moving at all... I was worried about you (Y/N)..."

"Jungkook..." She let out, a frown displayed on her lips. As someone who is older than him, she felt guilty for making a younger person feel this way.

He let out a sigh, "Jimin... he's not taking all of this too well." Letting go of her shoulders, he sat down at the edge of her bed as he stared into her (E/C) eyes.

"Jimin? Why? What happened to him?"

The look of desperation on her face made him feel a bit sad. Even in this situation, she had caught herself in, she was still worried about her childhood friend.

"When I told him about it, the look on his face was shocking. He kept saying that it was his fault that you were like this, I couldn't tell if he was serious or not. Did something happen between you and him?"

Drifting her eyes away from his, she looked down at the bed and was again in deep thought.

'Why can't I remember anything?'

Biting her bottom lip, she turned her head away from Jungkook. He was about to speak to her but the sound of the door opening caught both of their attention. The doctor with a couple of nurses by his side came inside the room, examining the pair.

"Mr. Jeon, could you step out for a second? We need to check up on her, we will tell you to come back inside once we are done."

He nodded his head as he bowed down to him. "Alright."

As he was about to walk towards the door, he felt a light tug coming from his shirt. Looking behind him, he saw (Y/N)'s fingers squeezing tightly onto the fabric as her body began to tremble. She didn't want to be alone with them, it made her feel insecure. The needles and additional medical tools the nurses had didn't help at all.

Subconsciously, his hand rested on the top of her head as he stroked her hair to calm her down. With that, the grip on his shirt loosened and a small blush appeared on the surface of her cheeks. A light pink blush appeared on his cheeks as well as he pulled his hand away and walked towards the door.

Shutting the door behind him, he leaned against the wall and stared down at the white/blue patterned tiles.

A couple of moments later, the noise of shoes clicking against the floor grabbed his attention. Lifting up his head to see where the sound is coming from, he glanced to the right and saw a person he had never expected to be here.

The person halted in his tracks as both of them gazed into each other's eyes.

"Jimin?"
