Chapter 24 - Infirmary

Chapter 24

ALEXA ROHAN

The lecture has started but no Lou Rivers in sight. I kept on glancing at her chair and in doing so multiple times, it was still vacant.

I attempted to ask where she was through the link but I dropped it as the weight of Carmen's words a while back took precedence.

'you are falling'

Am I?

Was it just the mate thing?

... that I don't have control over my feelings?

... that I am powerless in the bond?

... that she is just the girl I am suppose to want?

Right?

'Just the mate thing; the mate pull'

"You okay Ali?" Carmen whispered and it took me a while to respond.

Guess my eyes spoke for me because her brows arched and her gaze— inquisitive.

I took a deep breath. Well, aside from my internal battle about the mate pull or the falling in love, there was another thing that's bothering me for a while. I can't decipher what, but it was an odd feeling, growing every second.

Also, that odd feeling made me to rub the back of my neck; a behavior I do when I'm bothered. I was fidgeting too; restless.

"Our mate," my wolf spoke.

Without a second thought, I sprang on my sit and dashed out of the room leaving everyone in confusion.

And in that moment, I— I don't have a care in the world.

[***************]

I bolted through the door of the infirmary and I'm afraid I destroyed the hinges.

'ahem'

Addi answered me when I asked through the link but he left me in the dark with the details.

'tsk'

Entering the room, two sets of eyes met mine.

Then dismay replaced the startled look on Doctor Taylor's when her eyes drifted away from mine to the broken door.

Well, I paid her no mind.

I focused my gaze on my mate and rage gradually incinerated inside me seeing all the bruises and cuts on her face.

'What the—'

But before I could inquire, Carmen interrupted me with her dramatic gasp; she followed me.

Then Marc came with Maggie and Leonne in tow. Seeing Lou, their reaction were a mixture of anger and sympathy.

"What the—", Karen exclaimed, catching her breath by the door frame.

Well, she came too and I could see Carl Davis standing behind her.

'wow'

'The gang is here huh'

"What the hell are you all doing here?" Doctor Taylor asked— hissing, her tone venomous, her eyes shooting daggers to all of us.

I lifted my brow at her, questioning her behavior and I don't think I was the only one who noticed that.

"Ms. Taylor, I'm just—"

"Shut up Karen," Maggie cut her. "We arrived before you, so—"

"What the hell Maggie?" Karen snarled. "Why are you always cutting me off?"

"You piss me off Karen!" Maggie snarled back. "You irritates me, even just by your presence!"

"Enough ladies!" The doctor reproved but was ignored.

"Just what did I do to you, huh?" Karen pointed a finger at Maggie, totally ignoring everyone around.

Maggie huffed and lifted a finger back to Karen, "You are—" but was cut off by the shattering of the window pane.

Everyone's attention drifted to the shattered pieces tingling down on the tiled floor.

What happened?

It was Marc.

He threw something on the window that it shattered.

The room then, fell into absolute silence. We all just stared at the broken pieces, processing what just happened.

After a while, Doctor Taylor spoke.

She pinched the bridge of her nose before meeting our gazes.

"See that—?" She pointed at the window. "... another mess."

We remained muted sensing her aura and expression to be a little off. Not to mention, she had the vibe of someone who had enough and was about to give us her litany of disappointment.

"The last time you lot here—," she gestured a hand at us. "... this place was a wreck.

"You—" she pointed at Maggie. "What will you break this time that your sworn enemy is here?" She gave a glance at Karen.

"... my desk?"

"... the wall?"

"... another window?"

She turned to Marc, "How many hospital bed you're going to mow down to ruins today?"

"Carl Davis," she called that made the man to flinch. "I am surprise, you walked in here not soak in blood."

She turned to the messy girl whose gaze nailed on the floor. "Leonne, how many medical equipments and records your curious mind will going to destroy this time?"

A lengthy pause passed by, "Well of course Carmen," she continued. "How many thugs are tailing you this time around then cause a havoc in this place I painstakingly organized?"

"And you Alexa—" she paused, stared at me for a good while then groaned.

"You lot are here— together," she gestured to all of us. "... the same place at the same time."

"What would I expect?"

"Huh?"

"Might as well tear down this place to the ground!"

'eh?'

The room fell into a dead silence once again.

Well, I have so much to say but held my tongue and I think that same goes with everyone.

We were confounded.

No one expected Doctor Taylor's outburst. We all came to check on Lou, not to hear a sermon.

"Calm down Doctor," Lou finally spoke, the doctor turned to her.

My mate forced a smile, "They are my friends."

"I believe they all come in peace."

'peace'

'yeah'

I came in peace— but definitely not to the ones who caused her all those bruises.

'tsk'
