Chapter 26
LOU RIVERS
I thanked Sylvia after consuming most of the dessert the she had made for me. Her, being the head chef of the pack, I think I'll have twice my weight the next month.
'huhuhu'
Still niblling a cookie in hand, I headed my way to Delta Magnus' office as I was summoned through the link.
I wondered what's the Head of the Knights' business with me.
Knocking and entering the office, there stood Marc and Maggie intently looking at the projected images on the white wall. Both turned their attention at me when I slid myself in.
"Come now Louchie," Delta Magnus gestured. He's a well built man with visible scars from his face down to the neck.
They are scars of his many battles; a mark of his victories.
"It pains me to drag you along with this but the Alpha insisted that you should come,"he said in a regretful way as I walked my way beside Maggie.
"We've got a mission," Maggie whispered, her eyes sparkled with excitement.
'mission'
My forehead creased in curiosity.
Missions usually comprises of either being a bearer of classified documents, providing protection of some noble werewolves, conducting investigations or joining a battle of life and death.
I wondered which one this time.
"You are allowed to decline Louchie," the delta informed then gave me a tight-lipped smile.
His expression told me that he's burdened of my being part of whatever the mission is.
But before I could respond, Maggie beat me to it, "Oh no Delta, she won't."
I eyed her but Maggie is Maggie, she just smiled at me.
Well, I understand Delta Magnus' worrying of me. I am just a little above a runt anyway. I don't show off in the pack trainings. I do not reek of power too. So, the Delta was just worried of sending me off to my death.
"Let's hear what's this mission first then I'll decide," I proposed.
So, Maggie, Marc and I gave our undivided attention to the delta as he explained the details of the task.
[**********]
A pack from a far away land requested a team of noble werewolves to kill a noble of their own.
A noble knight, from a bloodline of betas has gone mad.
With the longest of patience, timeless forgiveness and almost unending chances, their Alpha finally decided to cast him away from their land, from the pack, making him a rogue.
But to that Alpha's nightmare, his action brought a calamity to his pack.
By the morning after banishing the knight, a family of five was found savagely killed in a small cabin in the woods.
It was brutal.
A CCTV footage showed how that knight barged in and killed everyone in the cabin— not even sparing the children.
I balled up a fist as the footage went rolling on the wall.
I was enraged—
I saw the bravery of the father who shifted, defending behind him his terrified pups. And I saw his fear, his anger and his mourning tears for his wife— dead, lying soaked in blood.
But even with all his might, he was no match for the intruder. The power gap was just too great that he ended up shedding his last sorry tears for his pups.
I closed my eyes for a moment, pacifying the anger building inside me. And in doing so, I ended up cutting my palms with my protruding nails.
'ugh'
Back to the footage, I could hear the children's pleading cries and terrified screams even though the video has no sound.
And in the blink of an eye, the insane knight ripped each child's throat without mercy and hesitation. He did it like how a typical wolf hunts for some bunnies in the field.
A monster—
According to the report, they got a hold of him after the incident. He was locked up, interrogated but he was beyond reasoning.
He has gone mad.
He has lost his sanity.
He has become a beast; wild, savage and beyond saving.
But as an elite knight as he was, he managed to escape from prison. He's now a wandering wild beast; dangerous and fearsome.
While the pack's elite knights conducts an operation of tracking him down, his family; which are nobles, pleaded to their Alpha to atleast have him killed by also a noble werewolf.
As nobles, the family strongly believes that it's an honorable way to die in the hands of a fellow noble.
Taken into account the previous achievements of the now insane knight: passed with flying colors, their Alpha granted the plea.
As I go over the report, the beast was a good man before he lost his mind and his transition was gradual.
That explains why their Alpha did not assign anyone for the kill but asked for volunteer instead.
But sadly, not a single noble in their pack volunteered or stepped up to take on the task.
'What the—'
Well, maybe all of them were once friends that they can't bear to kill him. Or—
Or maybe, as status means so much, they are so worried of denting their long built family connection.
And the latter infuriated me.
'grrrr'
As the Alpha's words are absolute, I could only imagine how the immediate family and friends of the deceased accepted the news.
As just common members of the pack; no status, a nobody, they can only loathe for their feeling of helplessness and inferiority.
And that's their reality.
'tsk tsk tsk'
It seemed that Maggie sensed something in me that she gently patted my back.
I flashed her a reassuring smile.
Wrapping up, Delta Magnus lightly squeezed my shoulder after giving us his blessing for the mission.
'yeah'
I accepted the mission.
Why the hell not?
I don't want to miss the fun.
'haha'
Nearing the door to head out, I stopped on my tracks, so was Maggie and Marc.
"Right— my Delta," I called, the man looked up as he was writing something on the table.
And I could paint the confused look on his face after he heard my words.
Confounded—
It was a sight to see and the best part was, I did not enlighten him. I just smiled as innocent as I can be, turned my back, reached out the knob and stepped out of his office.
'hahaha'
Well, what did I say?
This—
"Can I also brutally kill him?"
'hehe'
