Chereads / The Witch Hunt / Chapter 26 - Lucas' Revenge

Chapter 26 - Lucas' Revenge

-Charm's POV-

I decided to pause for a moment and quickly scanned the whole surroundings. As much as possible, I need to think of a way to defeat this puppet master. Lucas is just standing there at his place with Johanne frozen at his front.

If it weren't for Lance that keeps on aiming his sword at me, I would have thought of a plan already! Darn it, I can't think straight with the throbbing pain that I'm feeling right now caused by the cut in my right arm, and with my continuous dodging from this lad's upcoming attacks.

Come on brain… think of something. Quick!

The moment I leap backwards to dodge another upcoming attack from Lance, an idea finally came into my mind. And I need an incredulous amount of speed for me to do that.

At the back of my mind, I silently pleaded to Deity Ishmael to guide me with this course of action that I'm about to take, and to lend me a portion of her power.

I quickly dodged to my right once again upon seeing Lance's sword drawing close to me. And at that moment, I suddenly felt my movement became faster all of a sudden than earlier..As I faced Lance once again, the latter charged again towards me to which I patiently anticipated.

Soon enough, everything went in a slow motion as the gap between us became closer. When I made sure that he was just beneath my reach, I incredibly leaped several feet above the air which caused his head to look up to me.

While in the air, I stretched forth my right hand and touched his forehead then quickly cast a sleeping spell towards him.

"Cum potestate deorum data est mihi in somnum nunc ecce constitui te!"

As my feet touched the ground again, the flow of time went back to its normal state.

Like Aurora earlier, Lance fell into deep slumber in a blink of an eye after I cast the spell. His sword which was once clutched in his right hand made a sharp metallic sound once it fell from his hand.

A smile curved up on the corner of my lips for a job well done of putting him to sleep. Now, the only person that I need to worry about is none other than Lucas.

I immediately turned to look at the well-known puppet master standing in front of me which caused him to be tense.

"You better stop this nonsense Lucas and just tell me directly where you brought your victims right this instant!" I said with all the authority that I could muster as I tightly gripped my wand on my right hand.

But before I could even go near him, I saw Lucas brought out a dagger and aimed its tip at Johanne's neck.

"One more step towards me and I'll cut your friend's throat right here and then!" he threatened which caused me to stop walking.

Damn this guy! He isn't the type of person to surrender so easily!

I raised my wand upwards which emitted a tremendous white light above me. A violent gust of wind soon came out from it that made Lucas' dagger flew several distance away from him and landed on the ground filled with thick and luscious green grass.

Once that pointed object was now beyond his reach, his almond round warm chestnut eyes glared at me with so much hatred reflected on it.

"I don't get it. Why are you helping mortals like them? Did you forget already that they were the cause of the on-going Witch Hunt?" he said through gritted teeth.

"Since we possess magic that they don't have, why don't we use it to avenge our fallen brothers and sisters in the past?"

"You are right. We possess the power that they don't have…" I said, attempting again to take a few steps near him. "...but we also possess a great responsibility along with the magic powers that were bestowed upon us."

His eyes never changed one bit as he still looks at me with so much hostility.

"You're just saying that since you've never experienced losing someone dear to you! How about me?"

I stopped walking near him the moment I saw his tears suddenly burst forth like water from a dam, spilling down his face. I can't help but notice his chin trembling like a small child, as his heavy eyes turned to look at me once again.

Suddenly, I felt a wave of sympathy for him as I watched him cry from where I'm currently standing. I chose to remain silent while patiently waiting for him to continue.

"I lost my parents in exchange of saving my life from the hands of mortals. I was this little, helpless child back then… I can't even protect them with my tiny hands on that dreadful day that they were both killed right before my eyes as I hid somewhere."

"They just wanted to live peacefully like normal beings, and yet why?! WHY DO THEY HAVE TO KILL MY PARENTS? MORTALS LIKE THEM ALSO DESERVES DEATH FROM KILLING MY LOVED ONES… OUR KIND!"

"That is why, I swore to myself to seek vengeance for my parent's death. I was this homeless boy wandering around the streets, but an old powerful warlock saw me and taught me how to use dark magic to use it against mortals, especially those who are from Citadel! "

He lifted up one hand and harshly wiped away his tears using the back of it before he proceeded.

"It took me 5 years Charm… 5 freaking years for me to master this craft and create a plan to avenge my parents by taking down Belmont City first. I was about to finally strike Citadel after this, but then here you are… ruining my precious plan instead of helping me!"

The moment he decided to stop talking and looked down at the ground while silently mourning to himself, I decided to continue moving forward until I finally reached where the lad is currently standing.

His eyes, now looking a bit swollen from the crying he made earlier, automatically looked up to meet my gaze as he felt my right hand now resting upon his right shoulder. Nobody dared to speak at that instant, that is until I break the silence.

"Like you Lucas, I was also a victim of this on-going Witch Hunt. I nearly faced death while those soldiers from Citadel chased after me when I was still very young, that caused me to be separated from my beloved Gran-gran. Ever since that day, I never knew what happened to her or if she's okay as we speak."

"The point here is, we are both victims here. And I hope you understand that whatever tragedies we may have faced in the past, it shouldn't be the reason to plot revenge against mortals and become the monsters that we are never born to be."

At this point, I already felt Lucas finally being calm beneath my touch. An awkward silence filled between us once again when neither from us spoke and chose to remain silent.

When the lad still didn't utter any word, I looked up to him to see what he's up to. Then that's the time I chose to break this awkward silence with a gentle and soothing voice that caused him to meet my gaze once more.

"Lucas… Can you now tell me where you brought your victims?"
