Chapter 28 - On A Full Moon (Part Two)

-Charm's POV-

My eyes instantly widened the moment I saw the Arachnid's number being doubled right before our eyes.

What the heck did I just do now?!

"Quick! Run away from here! I have my friends outside who can help you flee this place." I quickly instructed the little girl who was bewildered at the sight.

As she regained back her senses, she gathered all of her strength and ran away as far as she could.

When the girl is now out of sight, my eyes then shifted on these monsters in front of me. The moment I looked at them again, I immediately saw two of them now charging towards me.

I wasn't able to anticipate their upcoming attack, thus when one of them gave me a powerful head butt, that immediately sent me flying several meters away from the monsters. But before my back can hit the solid wall made of rocks, I hastily casted an air spell to prevent it from happening and to keep my balance.

Damn it! How can I defeat these monsters if every time I tried to slice its body, its number would just multiply instead of dying?

Because of too much thinking of ways to defeat these Arachnids, I wasn't able to sense another incoming attack coming from them. Both of them spit their silky threads and simultaneously hit me with those.

I was able to dodge one of them, but the remaining one successfully hit me which caused my whole body to be enclosed on a ball of silky threads. As my body fall to the ground with a light thud, my wand was separated from my hand as well.

Even with how much I struggle to get out of its threads, I really can't. The threads are too strong as it solidifies.

While I was still busy finding ways on how to get out of this thing, I heard another loud rumble on the rocky ground of the cavern, signifying that the Arachnids are now making their way towards my direction.

Oh no, this is not good! I better think of a way, fast!

Despite this situation that I am currently in right now, I still tried to remain calm and concentrated my energy to create a fire even though my wand is not with me at the moment. I inhaled and exhaled countless times. Thin veils of smoke soon started to come out on my left hand. I did the same routine over and over again

As I did, a hint of flame flickered out of my hand, causing the threads to be slowly eaten up by it. Soon enough, I was able to unbind myself with the fire slowly devouring the threads that's impaling me to move.

As soon I was able to unbind myself, I threw the remaining threads which were scattered on the ground while it was being devoured by the blazing flames that I created. The moment it landed on the ground, I immediately saw my two enemies halted in their place and became hesitant to go near me all of a sudden.

With that quick observation, my lips curved into a smirk as I finally came up with a way of defeating these monsters. I made another leap to reach the location to where my wand had landed, and as my body rolled on the ground, I was able to grasp at my magical tool once again.

Since these monsters are too afraid of fire, let's give them that thing that they disliked the most!

I was about to cast a fire spell using my wand but I suddenly stopped upon hearing a voice shouting on my right.

"Charm, are you alright? Johanne and the residents were able to escape from here-- woah! What happened here!?"

I made a quick glance to see who it was, and was flabbergasted to see Lucas here, who was looking shocked to see what happened to the enemy.

"Did you just split the Arachnid into two? I forgot to mention earlier that its number would multiply once you cut it through his body."

I gave him a nonchalant look. Really? Why hasn't he warned me about that earlier? Unbelievable.

"I'm fine." I responded.

"Anyway, I know its weakness…"

I suddenly paused for a moment when I noticed those two Arachnids were now making their way again towards us and attempting to hit us with their powerful tackle, which caused me and Lucas to be separated while we simultaneously dodged their attacks.

"I also have a guess as to what it is." I loudly said for Lucas to hear me. "It's fire, right?"

"Not just fire, but sunlight!" the lad shouted back.

I suddenly remembered what he told me earlier… Now I finally get it! It all makes sense to me now as to why the Arachnid doesn't want to go out of its chamber except when the full moon rises.

It's because it hates sunlight!

A few hours from now, I know dawn is about to arrive. So we better lure these monsters to go out of this cave as soon as we can. With that thought, I decided to taunt them by throwing two fireballs to each one of them, causing their bloody eyes to turn towards me.

"Hey! Over here! Come and get me!" I said in a taunting manner.

I didn't wait for it to chase me and instead run as soon as I was finished mocking these creatures. I can feel Lucas running as well from behind, but is too slow to catch up with me.

Our enemies attempted to stop from escaping their chamber by spitting its web with an incredible speed, causing the entrance to be blocked by its silky, solidified thread and stopped us from running.

I immediately warned Lucas to take a step backwards in which he willingly obliged. With him out of the way, I chanted a level 5 fire spell.

"Flamma Thrower!"

I pointed the tip of my wand towards the thread that is blocking our path. Thick volumes of fire soon emitted out of it, that immediately devoured the whole thread. As soon as our path was cleared once again, I held Lucas' right hand and we fled from the Arachnid's chamber hand in hand.

You know, he is kinda slowpoke to begin with. So I don't want him to slow us down for the second time around.

I felt the ground trembling once again as we felt the Arachnids trailing us from behind. As I took a glimpse of the outside, I immediately heaved out a sigh of relief when I saw that it's almost dawn.

When we were finally out of the cave, I quickly let go of Lucas' hand and turned to face the monsters once again. I casted another level 5 fire spell which caused a horizontal line of fiery flames to come out of the ground, causing our enemies to make unnecessary weird cries of someone that seems to be in pain.

I continued doing so until it came to this point that they are now being encircled with the flames that I created. I saw them attempting to get out of the flame circle, but every time they did so, they immediately took a step backwards with their backs facing each other.

Finally the sun rose, filling the sky with its golden petals stretching ever outwards into the horizon.

With every sunlight that it receives, these Arachnids only groaned louder than before as I noticed their limbs slowly being turned into ashes.

A few moments later, even traces of these monsters soon vanished from our sight as their ashes were being swept away by the gentle morning breeze. With a wave of my wand, all the flames earlier instantly withdrew on the ground.

"Finally, it's over!"

I exhaled another long, pronounced sigh as I said those words. As adrenaline dissipated within me, I suddenly felt my energy being drained out right this instant, causing my knees to wobble and to take a seat on the soft grass.

"Hey, a-are you alright" I heard Lucas asked as he went near me, concern is visible in his tone right now.

My eyes went upwards to meet his worried look. "I'm fine. I'm just… tired from not being able to sleep since yesterday."

I felt my eyes being droopy as I said those words, but I can still manage to stay awake for now.

As my eyes turned again to meet his, I saw him again looking away from me. I wonder what's the matter.

"I would like to apologize for all the things I did in this city. If only my life is enough payment for all the lives I've wasted because of my rage, then so be it."

His head jerked upwards as soon as he felt my right hand touch the tip of his right finger and give it a tight squeeze.

"It's no use. What's important right now is you were able to acknowledge and correct your mistake by helping me rescue the residents and defeating the monsters earlier." I said.

There was a moment of silence after that. Me and Lucas chose to remain silent as we felt our hair swaying on the direction where the wind takes it to.

We remained like that until I noticed his other hand spreading right in front of me. That made my forehead creased as I looked up at him once again.

"Let's go back to my place, shall we?" he asked, a smile is now curving up on the corner of his thin lips. That immediately made me smile back at him.

"Okay." I muttered.

I willingly placed my right hand to his right palm, then he pulled me up and helped me to stand on my feet once again. As he did so, I felt that familiar sting of pain striking me all of a sudden which caused my face to be distorted for a split second.

"Ow!" I groaned that made him look at me with his worried look.

And that's when I remembered the encounter I had with Lance earlier when he had cut me in my arm using his two edged sword. I took a glimpse of my wound once again and saw that it is still bleeding.

"Give me your wounded arm." he demanded in which I gladly followed.

I was curious at first as to why he's asking that from me. But later on, I saw his right palm emitting a faint yellow light which transferred on my wounded arm. In a blink of an eye, my right arm became spotless once more.

My mouth almost gaped at the sight.

"I'm naturally born as a healer, since my clan is known to be powerful healers during Deity Apollo's reign on the land. I don't have any battle skills with me, just pure healing." When the yellow light from its palm already faded, he let go of my arm.

"There. Your arm is as good as new."

"Then, you can join us in our mission! Your powers would be a great help to the group!" Then I suddenly felt anxious when I realized what I just said.

"I mean… only if you wanted to join us, that is." I scratched the back of my neck and peeled my gaze away from him for a second.

"Hmm.. I'll think about it. But for now, we need to go back to your friends so that you could rest already." he said, which earned him a nod from me.

After that brief chit chat with this lad, we walked back again side by side to where I placed my friends yesterday night.

I do hope he could join us in our adventure though...
