Chapter 17 - Killed by a weakling

After receiving the messages from the system, Aven was surprised, 'Why can I store only 10 units? What does 'Low efficiency' mean?'

[ User can increase the capacity of the death domain with death energy. User can spend 10 units of death energy to permanently increase the capacity by 1 unit.

Analyze other specimens of the same race in order to upgrade the efficiency, when the efficiency is low, summoning an undead of this kind will cost the double of the normal amount of death energy required.

After analyzing 10 specimens, the efficiency will become 'normal', after analyzing 100 corpses, the efficiency will become 'High', when the efficiency is 'High', summoning an undead of this kind will cost a little more than half of the normal amount of death energy required. ]

'How much does it cost to summon the Soul-penetrating-eyed snake?'

[ 18 death energy required in order to summon a Tier 2 Soul-penetrating-eyed snake ]

"..."

Skaarl looked at Aven with a surprised expression as well, but for a different reason…

"Hey brother, where did the death energy go?"

As a necromancer he could feel the death energy around himself, and now he is sure that this body in front of him is completely devoid of death energy.

"I absorbed it"

Aven replied as if that was the most natural thing to do in this kind of situations.

In the meantime, Skaarl's eyes were popping out of their sockets.

"How?! Where did it go? Did you just eat it?! Are you fine?!"

Hearing those questions, Aven understood that something like this wasn't normal.

"There is something called 'Death domain' within me, it allow me to store death energy in order to summon an undead and other things…" Skaarl's surprise reached another level hearing this answer.

"Wait a second… Does that mean that you don't use the death energy within the corpse to summon it as an undead?!"

Aven answered with an evil grin.

"Yes, I only need to store enough death energy"

After hearing him, Skaarl was immersed in his thoughts…

'Is this the way to become a high necromancer? I should ask those maniacs what they think about this situation…'

"However, I need to absorb a lot of those guys before efficiently summon them."

"Hm, I see… Unluckily we can't let you absorb them all or we won't be able to clear this place…

I will rise all the corpses until we have enough of them to clear this place, after doing this, I will leave all the remaining corpses to you"

"Thank you"

'Hey system, is there a limit to how much I can expand the death domain?'

[ No, as long as user provide death energy, the death domain can be expanded as much as user want]

'Haha… This path is OP! Who is the idiot that said that this path is the weakest in 1 Vs 1 with other paths and that it isn't always the best choice?!'

[ User is the only necromancer on the planet that has obtained a High necromancer skill set when choosing a path ]

'Does this mean that I am using spells only available to high necromancers?'

[ Correct ]

'Why?'

[ The system won't answer this question until user meet the conditions required ]

'...'

(A/N: Aven's thoughts in this moment : 'How boring… This sounds like something directly from a manga or a novel…')

While Aven and the system through-talked with each other, Skaal looked around himself.

They are within something like an ancient temple, there are destroyed statues and pillars all around them, while it looks like plants infested this place.

In the distance, a light can be seen coming from a cave.

That is the only visible exit, the sky is dark with some artificial stars that light up the area, there is even something like the moon.

They walked in silence until they reached the exit.

When they reached it…

A large plain extended in front of them, and a 50 meters tall grey pyramid-like building could be seen at the center of the plain.

From the highest point of the pyramid-like building, a yellow light erupted toward the sky, there is also something like an artificial sun that light up the whole plain.

Seeing that light, Skaarl recognized it immediately.

"That is the location of the Celestial crystal… and its guardian, that is also the last place where we should go…"

Around the plain there are also the entrance to other caves.

"Right or left?" Skaarl asked with a mysterious smile

"Left"

Hearing this answer, Skaarl couldn't help but laugh

"Someone should explain me why every necromancer answer 'Left'. "

They walked toward the first cave on the left.

When they reached it…

"Hm… Water… I don't like it" Skaarl said while looking toward a dark river within this zone.

While talking Skaarl casted a spell

The death energy moved around them, forming something like a barrier, seeing Aven's interest toward the barrier, Skaarl explained.

"This is 'Veil of the Dead', it's impossible to detect a living being within this barrier, those stupid snakes won't understand where we are until it's too late."

Aven nodded toward him, before looking toward the zone in front of them.

Differently from the last zone, here there isn't any building, only plants, trees and the most eye-catching tree.

"I bet that the snake is there… " Skaarl mumbled before walking toward the 40 meters tall tree.

While walking toward the tree, they found two other snakes, both of them were around 13 meters long, with six eyes and a pair of wings.

Skaarl looked toward Aven and asked.

"Can you fire a mass of death energy toward one of them?"

"Yes, but it will be weaker than a tier 3 spell, you know?"

Skaarl explained his plan with a evil smile.

"That is enough, that is my plan…"

*****. *****

'Yay! Only one hour remaining until the end of my shift…' a snake though happily about what will she do after her job, she has been there as a guard for days, eating disgusting fruits, while her sisters and brothers near the mother's tree did nothing but sleeping and lazing around.

At this moment, her brother assigned as a guard with her was hit by something right in the head.

He fired a wind blade in direction of his attacker, the blade was intercepted by a black spear, both of the spells were destroyed in the process.

Soon after, a black bolt hit her brother in the head again, she couldn't wait anymore and fired her wind blade.

A man appeared from the darkness, intercepting her spell with a black spear.

The two snakes prepared themselves to surround him, but at this moment another man excited from the darkness.

'I can probably block this guy until my brother kill the weaker human…'

Both of the snake's thought the same plan at the same moment, surprisingly for them, a dark fog erupted from the stronger human, surrounding him and going toward her brother!

'Not under my watch!' the snake shouted within her head as she fired a bolt of poison toward the stronger human.

In the meantime, her brother, scared of the fog fired a wave of wind to stop the fog…

To their surprise, the fog was a tier 1 spell… another bolt of death energy fired from the weaker human hit her brother again, while her poison was intercepted by a black spear.

'This is… They are playing with us?! Those weaklings…! '

The enraged snake fired another wind blade as the stronger human said something with a smirk on his face.

He easily dodged her attack predicting where she would have attacked.

On the other side of the battlefield, the weaker human was fighting the injured snake in 1 Vs 1,and now they are at the same level of strength!

After dodging her attack, the stronger human fired his own spell. But this time, the spear is faster and stronger than the those that he used until now.

The spear hit her in one of her eyes before she could react.

'we need help…this damn spear is weakening me every second that pass… We can't win'

This is what she thought as she fired a ball of poison toward the sky to call for help.

A black spear as strong as the last one intercepted her spell before it pierced through the trees… Meaning, no one will come to help them…

Her brother was locked in a fight with an enemy as strong as him and he couldn't waste time looking at her, he was confident that his sister would soon kill the human and come to help him… Unfortunately, he didn't noticed that the human is actually stronger than his sister…

Weakening each passing second, without being able to retaliate or call for help, she died, killed from a weakling…

Her brother followed her soon after.
