My eyes opened on an unfamiliar scene. Sitting up, I realized my mother was asleep with me. She must've been worried I couldn't sleep tonight.
Getting up, I used the pitcher on the table to pour me some water. It tasted divine after that nap.
I crawled back into my bed, patting my mother's face softly. Her eyes opened slightly and she smiled at me.
"Little one, why must you do that?"
"Morning momma."
"So it is. Good morning sweetheart. How did you sleep?"
"No nightmares. Momma beat them up."
She giggled and pat my head.
"Don't forget, you've got two others with you at all times. They'll fight for you as well."
I peeked behind me, sure enough I saw the two familiar glinting lights. One a blazing red, the other a shimmering purple.
I gave them a tiny smile and yawned really big.
"Momma, when is papa coming home?"
"Soon. He better be anyways. I'll bap his nose if he isn't soon."
"No baps. Baps are bad."
My mother ruffled my glowing hair as the door burst open.
Next thing I saw, I was being heralded through flames and storms. My mother holding me to her as she sprinted through the streets.
"Dammit! These cowards attacking like this. The castle is in ruins. My lady! Please get away as soon as you can. The Knights will defend until our dying breath. I pray for the safety of you and the young prince, Xeron."
Xeron?
My mother kept sprinting off as the knight commander turned to hold off our assailants.
Deep in the woods, a simple arrow, a simple lucky shot.
"Momma? Momma? Momma?"
I tapped her face, my body covered in scratches from the fall we took. Her hand raised slowly as she began to caress my cheek.
"Never forget who you are my sweet boy. My sweet prince Xeron. Survive... and become someone we can be proud of. Please protect him."
The last words were directed behind me.
The last thing I remembered, a rock flying towards my face and a boy sneering at me as blood filled my eyes.
