Brennons P.O.V
The city of starlight. That was their name for it, and now looking at it, he truly understood why. Every shop held eye-catching jewellery and garments under the pink, cotton candy night sky. The cobbled streets held the aroma of roasted hazelnuts and sweet perfumes. Even Lorelai, who had lived here all her life, seemed entranced.
"I-It's" he tried to sputter out.
"Beautiful," Lorelai purred soothingly, "absolutely beautiful."
This was so, so different from the small villages in the Spring Court. This had character; this had life.
Brennon watched, stunned as two children rushed past Lorelai, running at top speed through the street.
Then he realised, no one was even paying attention to them.
"Your...heir to the Night court, why are you being ignored? Are we glamoured?"
"Rank does not matter so much here, they all know who I am, but they respect me enough to keep their distance, I'm guessing it is not the same in your court?"
No, it was not. Whenever they had visited a village, they were shown the upmost respect, everyone worshipping them as they went.
This was quieter and much more subtle, but he saw it. Respect glimmered in their eyes and they smiled at them as they went. He was in complete awe.
"What do you wanna see?" Lorelai asked him, staring at the wonder shown on his face.
"Everything."
"Well then," she replied with a smirk,"we'd better get going."
They walked along the Sidra in silence, Brennon too enamoured to speak. He couldn't help but stare at the people brushing past him, their clothes so different then what he knew in the Spring Court. Here, women showed of their skin and curves in dresses, and some even wearing pants. In the Spring Court, most of women assets were covered, rarely did they wear anything other than modest dresses.
"I don't think you'd much appreciate the Place of Thread and Jewels", Sparked Lorelai, after careful consideration, "so I think I'll take you to the Rainbow."
"The Rainbow?" Brennon questioned. He was annoyed at the amount of questions he was asking, feeling stupid for not knowing the basic geography of the dazzling city.
She nodded, "Yes, it's the artists quarter, it's where most of the cities best sights are. There are gardens, theatres and sculptures throughout it."
"What's your favourite place in the city?" He found himself asking.
She paused, as if this wasn't something she heard a lot. After it seemed like she had formulated an answer, she replied. "The Cascade Gardens."
He waited for her to continue.
"It's a place on the edge of the rainbow - not many people know about it as its not as bustling as the rest of the city, but that's why I like it. I found it when I was young and I visit whenever I feel.." She struggled for the word.
"Overwhelmed?" He guessed.
"Yes, exactly" She said softly, leaving the topic to rest.
When they got to the rainbow, they found it was packed with people. "Don't you feel a little overdressed?" He asked, looking down at her black evening gown.
"Not at all," she chuckled, "I think you'll find that here dress code doesn't matter too much." And she was right, as he looked around, he saw fae wearing simple, but flashy, cropped tunics and yet he also saw fae wearing elaborate gowns which trailed after them. It was like a beautiful circus where the performers were all around you, and you were part of the act. He felt like a traitor to his court to say it, but he loved it.
"Is there anything specific you like? I can get us into some theatres, or some gardens? There's also nice galleries and craft stores if your an artist."
"Whats that?" He questioned, pointing to a party going on right in the middle of the square.
Lorelai let out a small almost-grin, the closet thing he'd seen to a smile on her yet. She grabbed his wrist and pulled him towards the gathering. Everyone was jumping and singing in their loudest voices, dancing through the square. "On the third Sunday of every month, there's a party in the rainbow where everyone gets roaring drunk and parties till dawn, these were my plans till you happened to interrupt them."
"I thought you preferred the quiet places?"
She shrugged, "Parties are a good way to release."
"Can I tag along?"
Lorelai's P.O.V
She paused. "I don't think Tamlin would ever come here again if we came back with you drunk." Then she considered it, she didn't think her family would be too pissed if she scared off the high lord. "Alright then, but don't get pissed if you can't keep up with me."
Brennon scoffed, "Please, you'll hurling your guts up when this is over."
They walked to the bar, and the bartender poured them each a shot. "We'll see," she purred.
"We certainly will."
