Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Lorelai's P.O.V.

The sun streamed through the trees in the forest, shining down onto Lorelai's tanned skin. A purple blindfold was tied around her eyes, and another bound around her arms - preventing her from seeing and touching her surroundings . A dark figure darted around the forest, swiftly circling around her.

Suddenly the figure attacked, unleashing a swift kick to her stomach, but before it could reach her, she dove out of the way, rolling into a pile of leaves. Squirming to get back up, she paused to get a sense of where the attacker was now, as she stilled, a leg kicked her from behind, causing her to collapse under the dirt - face first.

"Someones tired today."

Lifting up her blindfold, she scowled at the voice. "I'm perfectly fine Cas."

Cassian snorted, "say that to all the dirt you just swallowed."

As much as she'd liked to ignore the exhaustion set deep into her bones, Cassian was right, she was completely shattered. Last night she used more power then ever before...

Panting, she awoke from a deep sleep - a nightmare which had just torn through her soul. While it was a nightmare, it was one like no other. The last thing she remembered was Tamlin brutally beating his wife and Brennon rushing through the corridors. Wait. What if it wasn't a dream? Cauldron, they might really be really in danger.

Her sweaty body tumbled out of bed and she speedily put on some pants and a shirt - no time to get into her Illyrian leathers. She grabbed a knife and strode out the door, mounting into the air and flying to the borders of the night court. God, what time was it? Looking at the moon which was directly overhead, she guessed around midnight. That meant she had only slept for 12 hours after the intense celebrations. Rubbing her eyes, she squinted through the dark, looking for the sentries which usually guard the border. As they came into sight, she dropped into a section of thick trees. If they see her, they will no doubt report to her parents, and if it turns out that she was wrong - that everything was fine - then she could be in some deep trouble for breaking into a foreign court. Concentrating her mind, she winnowed through Prythian, stopping for a moment of breath at each court she passed.

In the end, it took her 6 jumps, travelling the longest distance she had ever tried. She didn't even think she'd be able to make it all the way back, her magic depleted.

As she stood outside the estate, she closed her eyes and though her heaving, ragged breaths, winnowed into the manor. She arrived at the throne room with her braided hair drenched with sweat and mouth dry. This is where the dream had happened, yet everything seemed to be In order. Just to make sure, she made short winnowing trips around the house, attempting to find Reeyas private quarters. As she got there, Reeya was in a deep sleep - unharmed.

Lorelai let out a sigh of relief and then as she began to leave, paused. Reeya looked exactly like she had in the dream -minus the blood and bruises- and yet Lorelai had never met her before. Confusion flooded through her as realisation began to hit...

She had never even seen the throne room before either, so how did she know what it looked like?

As these thoughts crossed her mind, she realised there was someone else she hadn't checked up on.

Brennon.

After a couple minutes of searching, she found his room. He looked looked peaceful as he slept. Walking through the room quietly, she saw her note on his desk. Hesitantly picking it up, she was shocked when she read his reply on the back. Deep in her heart, she hadn't thought he'd actually reply, but she was wrong. She wasn't even going to summon it back until after a couple days, until he wouldn't know it was missing. As she shoved it in her pocket, she heard a moan coming from Brennon. Sweat leaked down his face and he began to thrash around under his bedsheets.

"Mother," He moaned, "Mother."

A nightmare. He was having a nightmare. As she turned to leave, she stopped. He had said 'Mother', could they have been having the same dream? No. It was impossible. But as she looked back at him, she realised how vulnerable he looked, how tortured. Silently, her feet padded to the windows next to his bed and opened both of them as wide as possible. Letting the breeze travel through the room, the cool air pooling in. When Lorelai was little, every time she had a nightmare, her mother would silently come in and open all the windows before kissing her head, then shaking her awake and letting the night sky guide her back to happier dreams. As she stared at that same night sky now, she smiled, its effect calming her beyond belief.

Turning to Brennon, who was still trapped in his nightmare, she put a sound barrier around the room and crouched down, grabbing his tense shoulders. "Brennon, wake up." She commanded as she subtly shook him.

As he didn't stir, she tried more forcefully, "Wake up!"

This time his shoulders relaxed and he began to shift back to reality.

Quickly, Lorelai winnowed back to the outside of the estate. Too tired to winnow the way back, she instead had to fly over the ocean which surrounded Prythian to avoid being noticed any other courts and to get back to her own.

With her tired state, it took over two hours, and she had gotten only three more hours of sleep until Cassian found her.

Looking back at the memory, she pondered if it the trip was completely worthless. She had practised her flying and winnowing and gotten them to places they had never gone before. She was going to be one hell of a High Lady. She grinned at the thought.

Cassian offered her a hand and helped her up, "Think you have enough energy to fly back to Velaris?"

All the colour drained out of her face.

Cassian let out a chuckle, "I think that means I'll be carrying you then."

"If it's not too much trouble-"

"Oh please look at you, you're exhausted." Mischief glinted in his eyes, "And I know you went out last night."

She balked at the claim. "And yet you still woke me up at six in the morning?"

Ignoring her, he began to walk back to camp. "You won't need to pack, we'll be back by tonight."

She warmed at the thought, and walked with Cassian back to camp, excited to see her parents and the rest of the Inner Circle again.

A/N: I'm gonna start to focus more on Lorelai's P.O.VS from now on as I think she fits better to tell the story. I'll still go back to Brennon's, but only when I need to.
