Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Lorelai's P.O.V

The music ran through the bouncing square, the residents getting lost in its enchantment. Lorelai danced through the music as if in a trance. She wove through the music as if she knew it well, a hot, steady thrum of magic surrounding her. Times like this, where one could just dance till dawn, with no one caring or noticing while you get swept away by the sounds, these were the times which Lorelai could forget. Forget her headaches, forget trying to please everyone and to forget the emptiness she so often feels inside. Dancing here was transcendent, even if she didn't come alone this time. Next to her, the heir of the Spring Court danced alongside her. Shockingly, he wasn't as drunk as she thought he'd be. The Spring Court must have some strong spirits, she would like to try them out someday. Another shocking thing, was that she didn't mind his presence. Unlike most times when people become a burden, she found him to be mildly comforting.

Tonight though, she had to keep an even better grasp on her surroundings than usual, which mildly pissed her off. Lorelai never took her eye off Brennon for more than a second, making sure that he was always beside her. God forbid if anything happened to him, she wasn't in the mood for starting another war - Prythian has had its fair share of them.

The long material of her dress flew around her in the breeze as she spiralled around, her eyes closed, as if in a dream.

Brennons P.O.V

He couldn't help but think how at peace she looked, through the loud music and swinging bodies, he could see her lips fall into a subtle, if barely there smile, as she swung around.

It was against his better nature he knew, but he couldn't help it. He reached his arm out and lightly tapped her shoulder. Bright, violet eyes stared back at him as he quickly begun to rethink his decision.

His eyes met hers as he opened his mouth to say, "Do you," he paused, but the big, purple eyes still stared back at him in curiosity. "Do you wanna dance?"

A silence began, as if she was thinking it over, or maybe just trying to torture him.

"You know, you're the first male outside of my family to ever ask me that." She murmured. Taking her eyes off him, she looked down and slowly took his hand, so cautiously one would think she was walking on a tightrope.

A simple smile appeared on her face, as she led him to the outer branches of the crowd, where there was more space. Coincidentally the musicians changed to something slow, he wouldn't be suprised if she'd slipped into their minds to do it. Both her parents were daemati, so there's a high chance she was too.

He lightly held her other hand, as he led them into a soft dance. Her crown shone in the sparkling moonlight, as they swayed softly to the music. As she danced, he couldn't help but stare at her. She was truly beautiful. Her violet eyes held danger and excitement, they showed her emotions even through her pallid face. A work of art, that's what he thought of her; she was the real rainbow of Velaris.

As the dancing went on, Brennon felt his heart beat grow quicker especially when Lorelai rested her head on his chest. He really hoped that she couldn't feel how out of control his heart felt. "Don't worry," she whispered, "I do the same."

He glanced at her blankly.

She continued, "Sometimes I get so nervous my magic gets out of control." She shut her eyes, "I feel like my heart rarely ever beats normally."

Lorelai's P.O.V

What was she saying. She didn't know if it was the alcohol, or the freeness of the night. Never before had she let anyone know that secret, not even Alec knew entirely how bad it got, and here she was, telling the child of her parents enemy some of her deepest secrets. How foolish could she get?

Hesitantly, Brennons hand stroked smooth circles on her back. She relaxed under the touch, realising this was definitely the effects of alcohol. Never had she let a man touch her like this, but as he touched her bare skin, she realised she might need this, if just for one night.

The moon shone its light onto the two of them, illuminating them in holy light. Deep in each others arms, it had seemed like they had been dancing forever, until a deep voice swept through Lorelai's head.

Tamlin's wondering where his beloved son is, I've been trying to reach you for hours, come back now before he rips the bloody house up.

Her fathers blunt words brought her back into reality as she stepped out Brennon's strong embrace. Looking at the Sidra, she spoke to Brennon in a soft, almost tired voice. "It's time to head back, it appears Tamlin is close to destroying the House Of Wind."

Before he could reply, she took his hand, and winnowed them to the ground below the house of wind.

"Thank you"

Shocked, she turned to look at him.

"Tonight was the best night of my life."

"Well," she replied, "I'm glad you had fun, if you ever want to visit Velaris, our gates will always be open."

With that, her Illyrian wings magically appeared, and unfurled from her back. "Ready," She smirked.

He rolled his eyes and allowed the female to pick him up. They launched into the air, and despite the terror striking his heart and the wind whipping through his skin he managed to sputter out. "I thought we were going to get a lot more drunk."

"So did I, but then I realised who I was babysitting - and decided to refrain."

"Babysitting?" He scoffed.

She hummed in response, as they landed at the glossy balcony at the house of wind.

Stepping through the glassy doors, they were greeted by a deep animalistic growl.

"Where," the voice shook out, "have you been?"
