Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Karyn Smith's perspective

Finally! After several days of trying to find a properly paid job, I am a therapist in a mental asylum. It is truly not the best environment to work in, but I am not going to let this small problem drag me down.

I enter the hospital and the aura felt extremely unpleasant...? I can't stop hearing the screams of the diseased patients. All of them cried with rage and pain. One of them were entangled on the bed with metal straps, the patient's mouth was strapped with a tape. It's making me dizzy. This was a bad idea after all... But I can't turn back now.

Suddenly, someone tapped my shoulder that made me a little startled. I turned around to see a tall young man. He possessed very minute details in his face.

He had broad shoulders and little freckles. He was relatively very thin from the other males I have seen. "My apologies for frightening you. You are Ms. Smith?" He had a very strong accent.

"Yes. That would be me."

"My name is Martin Letheir, I would request you to follow me so that I can show your first patient. Try to be as polite as possible and not make this patient lose her temper."

"Well, is she a criminal or just a regular patient?"

He ignored my question and continued walking to a room that was isolated from the asylum. It felt extremely weird that this place felt entirely different from the entire hospital. It was so quiet and calm. This silence was making my inner peace uncomfortable. I could not hear anything but the footsteps of me and this tall guy... I am starting to lose my composure.

We finally arrived near the front door of this mysterious room.

Martin opened the door slowly, in order to prevent any unnecessary noise.

My heart was racing in different directions, thinking about the number of possibilities of how wrong this therapy could go.

But... I can't do anything right now.

'Well, what's the worse that could happen? What is this criminal lady gonna do?! Kill me?! HAHAHAHA!!! Death is scared of me!'

With all of that amazing confidence in my mind, I opened the door.

And there she was...

A woman who was seated all alone across a rusted table and on the opposite side there was another chair, presumably for me.

I approached inside the room with a dangerous degree of anxiety and skepticism. I took a closer look and her emotionless gaze met mine.

Her face... Almost half of it was demolished by acid. Her left eye was trying to bulge from the destroyed part of her face. While her right eye was strained with an essence of revenge. She was peaceful. I was trembling.

As seconds felt like hours, I immediately took my seat and tried to be as calm as possible.

"Well, if it isn't a really ravishing lady. What pleasure do I owe to meet you?"

Her voice did not even show the slightest amount of emotion. It sounded vigorously mysterious and intriguing. I resent her composure in such a situation as this.

"H-How are you doing this fine day, Miss...?"

"Auraity Dellio"

"It's a wonderful name. I am your new therapist. My name is Karyn Smith, but you can call me Karyn."

"Can I call you Smith?"

"....Sure?"

"Interesting. So tell me about yourself, Ms. Smith"

"Let's not talk about me, but more about you?"

"Why not? Therapist or patient. Both are humans. Both are despondent. Both are desperate."

"..."

"Are you new to this job, Karyn? You look extremely perplexed. Are you afraid of the future or destroyed by the past?"

I can't feel my body as her voice hypnotizes my inner soul.

"Do you know where your fate will take you after our little conversation? Humans are so insufficient to survive in their own society they created... How pathetic are you Karyn Smith?"

"....please... Not anymore..."

I mutter those words with the remaining sanity that was stored in my now broken mind.

"Please? Do you know that no one in this world pays any heed to your irrelevant existence, Ms. Smith?" she whispered with malicious poison.

"...yes"

"Just jump off the window, sweat heart. You'll at least be able to come as a headline in the newspaper. Your death might be more ambitious than your birth."

Jump...

She gets up from the chair and approaches my lifeless soul with her sinful smirk... But I could do nothing but be paralyzed and figuring if I am in reality or trapped in the shards of her fantasy...

"Pathetic yet beautiful." She whispers those words with a psychotic determination. As she pulls the keys from my pocket and ran to the door. Releasing her handcuffs, she uttered with her mystifying voice, "See you in hell, Ms. Smith."

Jump

Jump

JUMP

JUMP

I held my breath and walked slowly to the open window.

I climbed on top of the window's handle and...
