Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Micheal Reener's perspective

"BREAKING NEWS: A YOUNG GIRL NAMED KARYN SMITH HAS BEEN FOUND DEAD WHILE SHE WAS EXAMINING ONE OF HER PATIENTS. THE YOUNG GIRL HAS JUMPED OF THE WINDOW! IS THIS A MURDER OR SUICIDE?! WE ARE YET TO FIND OUT. STAY TUNED FOR MORE UPDATES! I am your news reporter, Meliana Ferndale."

As that reporter lady was screaming on top of her lungs to gain attention from the public, I was exceedingly annoyed.

"Why the hell did you permit news channels and the public inside the crime scene? I remember asserting you that I want to investigate in peace and not to be surrounded by brainless fools!" I exclaimed at my assistant Celenier Hitoshi, who was at this stage, strangled with terror. His eyes were twitching with guilt and his hands were fidgeting through fear. Well, now I slightly feel awful for losing my composure.

"S-sorry sir, we were not able to stop them. They already received the information before us..."

"What? How did they come here before us? Aren't the police supposed to take care of all of this? God, everyone is so useless."

"Sorry, sir..."

"Enough with the apologies, Hitoshi. And be more assertive next time. Make sure that paparazzi does not get involved in these kinds of cases. Human life is extremely valuable and it's not meant for advertisement."

I turned my back to the direction of the asylum started walking.

"What is the main idea of this case?" I asked calmly.

"Sir, there was a lady named Karyn Smith who has just joined yesterday for her job as a therapist. Her first case was Auraity Dellio, who has now escaped from this asylum."

"Why did she make it so evident that she committed the murder? It makes no sense. Well, was there any physical or violent resentment done by Auraity on Ms. Smith?"

"No sir. But, Auraity did take the keys from Miss Smith's pocket."

"Hmm... So Karyn died from jumping off the window. While Aruaity just grabbed the keys from Karyn's pocket and escaped. So how long was their session until Karyn died?"

"They started the therapy session at 3:15 PM and Karyn's body was found  primarily at 4:04 PM, sir."

"So even if she jumped from the window at approximately 3:20-3:40. There might be millions of circumstances but only two possibilities are logical. One; Auraity might have abruptly pulled Karyn and threw her off the window, but this is unlikely possible as Auraity only touched Karyn's pocket or she might have erased all the evidence and forgot to do so with the pocket. Two; Auraity manipulated Karyn within the span of 15-20 minutes to kill herself so Auraity can escape."

I reached the front entrance by showing my Identity card to the security. Following me was my Assistant Celenier; he usually had a very distinguished aura around him that makes me extremely calm and comfortable in his presence. My thoughts were interrupted by a very nauseating odor that escalated.

The asylum looked awfully cramped and the sight felt intoxicating. There were patients all around the region, which added more to the discomfort.  Not bothering much about it, I started approaching the room where Karyn and Auraity had seen each other for the last time.

Fingerprints were being traced, Footmarks were being discovered.

"What about the camera records?" I asked Celenier with a significance of hope that could give us possible clues.

"Yes, we can access the footage. Follow me, sir" he started walking towards the door. As we approached the security room, I had this very disturbing belief that someone was scrutinizing my every move.

"Here we are. This was the guard that is in charge of the security room, sir" I suddenly heard Celenier's gentle voice.

"Good evening, gentlemen. My name is Raphael Keehl. I was actually not present in the camera room during the crime scene..." I could clearly analyze the tension in his voice.

"Why were you not watching the cameras?" I asked.

"Sir, that was my tea time. I could not spare anything during my tea time..." Raphael mumbled.

"Oh really? Couldn't you have put someone else in charge at the time you were not on duty?!" I yelled.

"S-sorry, sir..." Raphael uttered

"It's alright Mrs. Reener. You need to be calm at this moment." Celenier's voice interrupted. Well, he was being practical. So I remained silent.

"Show us the footage, Mrs. Keehl," I said calmly.

"Y-yes, sir" Raphael whispered.

The first footage was timed at 3:00 PM at the front entrance.

After a few minutes, Karyn entered the building. She looked very jubilant but it immediately turned to bewilderment as she examined the asylum. The same area that triggered a discomfort in my mind. As she approached the center of the asylum, a man tapped on her shoulder. He looked like another doctor working here. We should take notes from him as well. They communicated with each other. Furthermore, both of them began strolling towards an isolated area. Precisely, where the crime room was led to. When I entered this area, there were so many officers, investigators, and reporters. I failed to notice this area was set apart from the rest of the asylum. But why was only Auraity's place isolated from the rest? Was she special?

Karyn looked extremely frightened as it was her first day working her and she was given such a tremendous task. She was already perplexed before meeting Auraity, and this was another positive objective for Dellio's success in exploiting Karyn to suicide.

They finally reached the room sharply at 3:14 PM. This is intriguing.

"We usually don't keep cameras inside the therapy room, as countless patients tend to get intimidated or vulnerable by it." Raphael interrupted my thoughts with his faded voice.

I nodded and continued watching the tape. And Karyn entered the room at exactly 3:15 PM, still masking her skeptical expression.

In the entire duration, till 3:45, no movement arose. The silence was uneasy.

Until a girl, most reasonably Auraity, exited out of the room while releasing her handcuffs with a key; conceivably the key is taken from Karyn's pocket. She had brunette hair and wore greyish-white clothes. She began wandering to the opposite direction of the camera, so it was difficult to glance at her facial expression. So I turned to the next camera angle, but the tape began to blur...

"What the hell is going on here?" My voice began shivering with the sight of every recorded video glitching whenever she enters a camera's vicinity. There is something more to this murder than just a psychotic satisfaction.

What's happening?
