"Elena, come please come to my house. There is an emergency I need you to help me with," Denise said on the phone.
"An emergency? What happened?" Elena asked, sounding alarmed.
"Can just come to my house? I really need you. Please come," Denise pleaded with her friend.
"Okay. I will be there in some few minutes. I'm actually in the neighborhood," Elena said and cut the call.
In an hour, Elena drove into the house. She met Harold coming out of his room. He greeted her and she smiled at him.
"How are you doing, Harold?" She asked him.
"I am fine, Miss Elena. What about you?" he asked her politely, his hands on his back.
"I am good. Are you going out?" Elena asked him.
"Yes I actually wanted to go out for a walk for a bit. It's to just clear my head," he replied.
"Okay. Anyway, is Denise inside?"
"Yeah, she is. I don't think she will be going anywhere today."
"Alright, thank you and enjoy your walk."
"I will. See you later, Miss."
Harold turned and headed towards the gates while Elena turned to go inside the house. Mrs Williams, Denise's mother came out of the house and met Elena outside.
"Good day, Ma," she greeted the older woman.
"Good day, my daughter. How are you doing?" Mrs Williams asked.
"I am doing well, Ma. I came to see Denise."
"Oh she is inside. I actually wanted a mechanic to do some maintenance on all the cars here. I thought he was even here. By the way, Denise is up in her room. You can go there."
"Thanks, Ma. i will go to her right away." She went inside the house and climbed upstairs. When she got to the door, she knocked and Denise answered.
"Hey girlfriend. Can I come in?" Elena peeked her head inside the bedroom.
Denise laughed. "You know you don't have to knock, right? Elena smiled and walked in, then, sat on the bed, close to Denise.
"I am here now. You sounded kind of desperate on the phone. What's going on? What's the emergency?"
"I don't know what's going on with me but I think I am beginning to fall in love with my driver."
"Wait! What? I don't get what you are saying. You are falling for who?"
"Harry, of course. I really need your help. I don't understand what's going on with me." Denise sounded really frustrated.
"Okay, calm down and tell me why you think you have feelings for Harold. I mean, I don't get any of this," Elena leaned on the foot rest of the bed.
"It all happened last night. Something happened on our way here from the fashion show. When we left the place, Harry noticed that a black Mercedes-Benz was following us. Somehow I don't know, we ended up in some sort of alley. We hit a dead end. The car closed in on us and parked right behind us. Two men came out of the car, demanding that Harry allow them take me with them. Harry asked me to stay in the car while he took care of them. Everything happened so fast-"
"Hold up. You are trying to tell me that, you were almost kidnapped after you left the fashion show with Harold? Wait, I hope they did not do anything to you?" Elena's voice was up, more to Denise's discomfort.
" Keep your voice down, please. My mother is around. She doesn't know about this. I don't want her to find out. She will force a bodyguard down my throat for sure, if she finds out," she puts her finger on her lips, signalling Elena to keep quiet.
"Okay, okay. I am sorry. So, obviously the attempted kidnap did not happen. Mind telling me what happened next?" Elena brought down her voice.
"Harry saved me. He managed to disarm and attack the men before they could do any serious damage," Denise replied like it was a normal thing to say.
"Excuse me. You mean, Harold, fought off the men. And saved you from being kidnapped?"
"That's exactly what i said. You should have been there to see him when handled that gun. He actually pointed a gun to the head of one of the kidnappers. He looked so manly and strong, you know. I felt so safe around him, you know," Denise said. She was so excited when she recounted everything.
"If only you could see yourself as you were talking about Harold. There is this spark in your eyes whenever you mention his name. I have never seen you like this before."
"That's the problem. I feel so different around him now. I can't really explain it. You know he was in here earlier. I thanked him for saving me and hugged him. And what I felt when I hugged him is something I have never felt with anyone before. I felt at peace. I felt so protected and there was this chill I felt running down my spine, Elena. Could it be that I am in love with him?" Denise said. She leaned on the head rest. She was feeling so confused.
Elena looked at her friend quietly and listened to her as she talked. After she was done, she sat up.
"You could really be feeling something for Harold. After all, he is very good looking. On the other hand, it could be pure admiration. I would advise you as your friend to keep him close. Don't rush into anything. Just take your time to understand what you feel for him and I believe with time, you will know what you feel and understand it." Elena suggested.
"You believe that will help? What if I am not able to control myself around him? What if I do something stupid? That would be very embarrassing and awkward."
"Then don't let that happen." Elena winked at her, making Denise feel more nervous.
"What do I do, then?"
"I already told you what you should do. Just take your time and try to figure out what you really feel for him. And make sure you don't do anything stupid, girlfriend. Anyway, I am glad you are safe. That must have been a very scary experience." Elena said, changing the topic.
"Yeah, it was very scary. That is the more reason why I don't want my mother to find out. She will not let me hear the end of it."
"What if you were attacked because of your mothers political ambition? I think this is the more reason why you should tell her," Elena said.
Denise sighed. Elena may be right. She is the daughter of a multimillionaire but she has never been attacked before. So, what changed? Maybe she should inform her mother about this. This could truly be political.
