' "What do you want? Who sent you? No! Stay away from me!"
Seeing herself like that in her mind, Karen could only unconsciously shake her head in her sleep. The woman in her dreams is her current body. The scene was of her last day alive.
'You should've stayed out of people's business Maëlys (Mah-Eh-Lee)' said the man who wanted to kill her to get his pay. Decked out in full black leather with leather gloves and a face mask, he approached the cornered Maëlys and reached out squeeze her neck. Her coat that was in her hands was dropped a while back. She started fighting back and ended up giving him a scratch under his left eye on the exposed skin, he gave her a tight slap then grabbed both her arms and squeezed hard with one hand then the next he used to strangle her to death no matter how she struggled or tried to beg. '
Being jolted awake Karen stared out the window of the car and realised they were turning off somewhere. 'So my new name is Maëlys? I see.' She turned her head towards the driver of the car and gave him a good look. 'I'm sorry about earlier. I was extra tired, my manners went out the window and I just fell asleep.' Looking towards the dashboard she saw the time. It was pass eleven in the morning. Surprise was registered on her face but it quickly went away taking into account she fell asleep. She even needed more at the moment but she would survive. 'Good morning Sir, thank you for the ride.'
She was expecting a similar response but instead she received a belty laugh instead. Her face went into full on shock mode due to the unexpectedly pleasant surprise. She knew he was handsome before but now she found him even more so. His eyes were partially on the road partially on her.
"Sleeping beauty finally awakes. Do you have any sense of awareness? Or do you just fall asleep in every stranger's car without even asking for their names or anything like that?" Was what he asked instead of responding to her.
Her brows furrowed at the unexpected question. "I dont usually go in a stranger's car in the first place. And I dont usually fall asleep either. Besides, you don't look like a bad guy sooo..."
"Looks can be deceiving. Dont always trust your eyes. What you see can always be fabricated. Only trust what you know with certainty."
"Wow, unexpected life lessons are being given out for free. Thanks. But I already know all that, I've experienced it before. No need to remind me. Anyways, I know that you wont hurt me in any case. You would've done so while I was sleeping."
"Maybe I wanted to wait for you to rest up then do it?"
"No. My gut says you're a nice guy." A next laugh was heard after that. This time with a bit of sadistic humor in it.
"Well I wouldn't want to be you."
"Whatever. I'm Maëlys, what's your name?"
"Just call me John."
"You don't look like a John." She scrutinized him as she said this. "Where are we going John?"
"Now she asks." Sarcastic eyeroll, " Well you said take you wherever I'm going so we're going to my home, cause frankly, you look homeless."
She couldn't help but look away from him at that comment. "Yeah, well maybe I am." she mumbled to herself. "Where's your house located? In the middle of nowhere?"
"Are you getting scared now? No it's not in the middle of nowhere, it's in Blossom Springs."
"Blossom Springs. I see." It was then she got a memory of reading up on where some of the richest people in the country live, which was in Blossom Springs. But then she remembered something else. Something shocking. She lived there too. "Wait the Blossom Springs on the westside of the city without all that traffic and nature in abundance?"
"Yeah. What is it?"
"What a coincidence, I live there too. I moved in about four months ago. What a surprise."
Shock was registered on his face when he heard that. "That was unexpected."
"I know right?"
"Hey, can I ask you something?"
"Depends on what it is. We're not really that close soo..."
"What happened to you? I can see the hand print on your neck and face and arms you're trying to hide with that coat."
The atmosphere turned stiff at this point. Silence reined as she chose not to respond at all and looked out the window. After the silence was stretched thin and the atmosphere couldn't be more overwhelming, they approached the gates to Blossom Springs. A silent sigh escaped her lips unconsciously.
"I live at house number 13. Could you drop me there please?"
"Yeah, sure no problem. I'm sorry for asking btw."
The guards by the gate checked their credentials and let them through. John drove for an extra half hour which by that time it was 12:17 and her stomach was silently complaining. By that time they reached her home.
"Thanks for bringing me home. And I'm sorry for my reaction but some things are too sensitive to share. I hope you understand. See you around maybe. Goodbye." She didnt wait for him to respond as she rushed towards her door and used her thumbprint to open the door. After closing the door she heard the car drive off in what seemed to be the left due to the sound.
'Sigh. I wonder if I'll ever see him again.'
"Young Miss! You're finally home!"
