Yan Lan stretched out to reach for Kay next to him the next morning, but the bed beside was empty. Rolled out of the bed, with no sight of him. He stopped and saw his little note book on the table with a sticky note "went for a walk, be back soon"
Hmm that's early he thought. He saw the open page that had a neatly written poem on the table.
The morning after
The sweet melody fills the air
At the wake of the first sunlight
And the beauty of the day
Being with the one says it all
Always grateful for such blessings
That even the most difficult moments
Doesn't comes across a challenge
Waking up to a lovely morning
The tapping rain stops
The lightly chilly breeze sweeps through
Your morning presence breaks a smile as always
The chirping birds call out gently
Wake up little love birds
As the peaceful scene stands still
Smell of crisp breakfast made from love
Just happiness fills the space
As morning shower starts the day
And the remaining time marks the week
And as he smile reading it, the door clicked open, and there stood the lovely soul, clumsily with two bags in his hands and as he turn around after shutting the door, his eyes dropped down and he turn back his back again walking backwards...
"Errrnm morning ...you want to put something on first?" He asked feeling awkward and shy looking at the person in front of him before instantaneously turning his back around.
Yan Lan ignored the comments and went straight to hug him, placing a peck on his neck from behind.
"thank you for the poem it's lovely, you went missing again, miss you already" Yan Lan said squeezing him tightly before leaving Kay stunned with that move.
"Okay, okay will wash up and put something on" he said as Kay stood frozen still not moving from his position.
"Hmm you weren't that shy yesterday" Yan Lan teased back as he release Kay
Kay's blushing again was probably what Yan Lan wanted - a sign of him successfully getting a decent reaction from Kay.
Kay unpacked the bags arranging the items on the table.
"Drinks and light pastries!" He called out as Yan Lan wash up in the bathroom
"Yup be right there!" Yan Lan yelled back as he freshen up.
Kay was occupied on his mobile and there were many messages that came through. His phone rang then and he was talking through his manager on his schedule when he is back and then there were manuscripts he needed to review.
Yan Lan was just observing Kay as he emerges from the bathroom, he walked over and wrap his arms around him startling him, but Kay was still engross in the conversation instructing his team what to do when he is out here. While he was trying to focus on the conversation, Yan Lan can't get enough of Kay's scent as he breathes in his neck and planted a kiss and bite onto the side of Kay's neck arousing Kay now, trying hard to stay focus on the call. Yan Lan had a smirk smile on his face, satisfied at seeing Kay reacting to his action. He nibbled on his neck further turning him around in time for Kay to end his call.
"Hey Yan Lan! Don't do that...." He shot a glare at Yan Lan
"What? I was just getting my morning breakfast" he said as he then continue to steal a deep kiss from Kay's lips before breaking away.
"Okay I'm listening now ..." Yan Lan smiled again as he break away from his action leaving Kay to blush again.
They took a quick bite before heading off to their ski ordeal again. Today it wasn't two separate routes and hide and seek.
It was just them. Yan Lan excited to be able to show off how much more on his skills. He has improved post his professional training, taking Kay on the same tracks he did before. The snow that ran beneath them melted at the sight of these two souls - flame of the past ignited through these winter forest as they scout through the tracks
"Hey Yan Lan! Over here!" Kay stopped again by the same place he did the other day as he removed his skis again and headed back in to the frozen bushes.
"Kay no! It's off limits see the lines tied here? Kay!"
Kay wondered in again where he saw the little bunnies earlier....there were also little flowers that were still seen earlier by some frozen branches that caught him intrigue together with wild berries. He snapped some photos along the trail when Yan Lan caught up with him.
"Hey Kay let's go! It's off limits here"
"One photo just one more come on?" He turn around and took a selfie of them against the flowers that grew on this winter tree intrigue by its beauty. Yan Lan insisted for them to leave fast leading the way back
"Kay you know you should be more careful to watch the danger signs ..." as he turn back Kay went missing again hopping over to the other side of this small secluded frozen bush
"Kay! Come back we should leave!" Kay was snapping a few more pictures. Yan Lan panicked as he observe where Kay was stepping. He was trained to watch out for danger signs in some of his ski training classes in the past as part of emergency aid that they had to be equipped with.
He ran over to Kay and pulled him by his jacket from the back. Kay had almost stepped into a soft landing which leads into a ice covered frozen stream.
Yan Lan was quiet as they hurried out back to the tracks and so was Kay. They skied back to the side of the tracks where they used to spend most of their night time here laying flat watching the sky. Yan Lan reach the first and turn around removing his skis followed by Kay. Kay was conscious this same quietness in Yan Lan would mean only two things. Yan Lan is angry and worried or sad.
Yan Lan went over and dragged Kay in for a hug, "I'm mad at you, do you know how dangerous it was to be there if I had not pull you back? Did you now see the signs, you are not coming back here alone!"
Kay feeling guilty responded "I'm sorry...I know"
"I know you love all the little things in nature but you need to be a bit more careful, be aware of your surroundings...Kay I'm serious what if I wasn't here with you." Yan Lan said in a serious tone. Kay accustomed to the same nagging he love this person for since their earlier encounters... the same nagging that made Kay realised how much Yan Lan love him.
"I love you Kay, a lot and I can't afford loosing you anymore and you getting hurt" Yan Lan said again overwhelmed with his own emotions
That day made Kay understood more why his every move was just deeply connected to how Yan Lan feel. He was recalling a few things in his mind, their past, predictions on their life, the connection between them, just everything.
"Kay, come back with me...."he said.
The sky had settled down in the evening, the glittering stars with two souls in each other's arms as Yan Lan again outwardly expresses his 'wants' to Kay.
The heaven seems to sent a shooting star tonight above them, not them praying but everything else seems to pray for them this time. Their many misses of fate that was passed down - can time and their deep love finds compassion from their past predicament to release them and let them walk their future peacefully and happily - that was what Kay had been bogged down with.
That night after Yan Lan fell asleep - Kay was up again revisiting his thoughts. He scrolled the picture which he took with Yan Lan today against the backing where the little flowers on the tree grew even though the bark and branches were covered with snow and ice. How is that even possible almost so beautiful like in spring and summer. He took out his little book revisiting the notes on the dreams he had jotted down from the past.
"Come back with me Kay" he recalled Yan Lan saying this morning...
Kay took his thoughts into his diary. He look at the ring that he wore. He thought about all the expectations around. As he finish up his thoughts into his diary he hurried back to be next to his beloved. As he stroke the hair of the sleeping boy next to him - he stare at the peaceful face sleeping happily and pray that he will forever be this way - always getting enough rest peacefully even though when the there were days where Yan Lan's schedule would be filled pack to the brimmed, that when Yan Lan comes home he will be able to rest peaceful recuperating sufficiently. Kay planted a kiss on his forehead while lying next to him only to be surprised by a hand that scooped him in nearer
"Don't admire me so much, sleep or else I'll make it another long night for us" as the person next to him whisper, casually pulling him in closer.
"I thought you were asleep" Kay whispered back
"I was until you left my side ... waited for you to come back to me" Yan Lan said sleepily as he drifted back into his sleep again securely comforted with Kay by is side.
