Chapter 2 - A dragon confused

The next morning Wren woke up and was dazed and confused as he looked around. He was in a gorgeous home decorated in soft earthy tones and colors that complimented the hardwoods used in the interior construction. There were beautiful paintings and tapestries adorning the walls and several very old portraits. Across the room from him was a beautiful carved mantle over a large stone fireplace. This place had to be old from the look of it. The only thing modern was the tinted windows that looked like they screened out UV light. He thought he saw a TV cabinet but he wasn't sure.

When he tried to sit up, his ribs hurt badly so he slowly sat up with one hand holding his side. His shoulders and legs were bandaged. He vaguely remembered a young red haired man speaking to him before he fell asleep. He must've rescued him and brought him to this amazing home to bandage his wounds. His memory was still hazy after crash landing so it would take him a few minutes to orient himself. Then he smelled steaks cooking.

Before he could stand up to investigate, a man called out from the kitchen. "Wren? How do you like your steaks cooked? I heard the couch shifting so I guess you're awake."

Wren chuckled softly. "I am... I like mine rare."

Dravyn chuckled. "A man after my own heart I see. They'll be done quickly then. Do you want any sauce for yours or anything to go with it? I went shopping while you were out and picked up a few things."

Wren rubbed his head gently as if that could clear his memory. "No, no sauce is needed. And the steak would be fine for now. I'm not sure how hungry I am."

A few minutes later, the man he slightly remembered came in carrying a tray with the steaks and two glasses of red wine. He sat the tray next to Wren and took one of the plates and silverware and one of the glasses. "I'm sure you're a little fuzzy headed thanks to the blood loss and the medicine I gave you to help you sleep. I'm Dravyn Nocturne. You are a welcome guest in my home so whatever I have is at your disposal."

Wren began to cut and eat his steak. "Thank you." He spoke between bites. "This is really good. I'd love a tour of the house soon."

Dravyn chuckled. "We'll see how you feel after breakfast but I would be happy to give you a tour when you're up to the task."

He began eating and the two ate quietly, a million questions running through their minds that no one was willing to voice right now.
