Chapter 3 - Getting acquainted

After eating, Wren sat back on the couch. "Thank you for rescuing me. I hope it wasn't too much trouble."

Dravyn smiled at him. "You're welcome. It wasn't that much trouble. So far the hunters haven't come back so I think you're safe for now as long as you lay low. But you're my guest so you're under my protection and have my hospitality."

"Um, thanks... I... I don't know how I'll repay you. I'm kinda broke right now. I spent my last money trying to get a place here and that's not safe for the moment."

Dravyn chuckled softly. "Don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll get back on your feet soon. Besides, I didn't expect payment. I believe that doing good for others comes back around. But if you really want to repay me, you could be my friend. I could use more friends and those are worth more than jewels."

Wren smiled. "Yeah, they are. I'm actually a jeweler by trade. What do you do?"

"Very nice, Wren. I'm a businessman and run several companies in Europe. This is my main home. I have one other in Ireland."

Wren smiled. "I'm from Ireland... my main home is there. I was going to build a home here on some land I bought once I did a little more work but the hunters found me before I could get my work started."

Dravyn nodded. "Hunters are a bothersome peril. They crop up every few years for different races and species. Last year they were hunting werewolves. They'll back off in winter and everyone will get their defenses planned and prepared. Breeding seasons attract them. Do you have a mate or family you should contact?"

Wren blushed. "No... I've been alone for a while now and I haven't found my mate. Honestly, I don't know if I even have one."

Dravyn gave him a smile. "Maybe they'll find you soon. I haven't found mine either but I know they always show up when we least expect it."

Wren rubbed his head gently. "I guess... are you sure that you don't mind having me here?"

Drayvn smiled again. "I'm sure. Do you need anything? Are you hurting too badly?"

Wren sighed softly. "I think I have a broken rib or two. Do you have something I could take?"

Dravyn nodded. "I keep supplies on hand in case of emergencies since I'm rather remote from the nearest city. I'll be right back."

The man stood and went into another room and then came back a few minutes later with a couple of pills and a bottle of water. He handed them to Wren. "One is a muscle relaxer and the other is a pain pill. It should help. Are you a fast healer?"

Wren nodded after taking the pills. "Yeah... I should be healed in a day or two. Bones take longer to heal."

Dravyn chuckled. "It's the same for me. Do you want to watch TV or just try to sleep some more? Sleep can help with healing for me."

Wren chuckled softly. "You can watch something if you want. I'll probably just take a nap. Sleep helps me too."

Dravyn nodded. "Okay. Just let me know if you need anything."

Wren nodded and gingerly laid back down on the couch. then closed his eyes, listening as he heard the TV turn on and a cooking show came on. Who would have thought a vampire liked to cook?
