The Quest for Change

I scrubbed the floors and stared at myself in the reflection of the white marble. I sighed and kept going. How long have I lived like this? 10 years is way too long. I scratched at my ear, and kept going. The women had really gotten us men good. And they weren't wrong for it. I was never apart of the war, but I pay the price for the old government. The country of Taleah was founded after the 2nd Civil War, in which the men fought against women over abortion rights, and other things women have struggled for centuries to achieve. The old politicians really screwed up women. First they started with small protests and slowly made their way up to revolution. It was insane. Women turned on their husbands and sons. America was overrun and replaced with a new form of government. Feminism. All men and young boys were rounded up and either killed or injected with an implant. The implant ID'd men and kept them in line. Make one wrong move and they were dead. The women had a right to be mad at us men. We did nothing but make them less than equal for since....ever. But we didn't deserve to really be 2nd class citizens. That's when my madam walked in. Her name was Ruby Price, but I had to call her Ms. Price. I gulped as I saw her glare in the reflection. Oh no... "605....please hurry up, I have company..." She said and quickly turned. I sighed. We all had numbers. The higher the number, the more likely we were to be given better jobs. But that wasn't my name. And I'll never be conditioned to let it be that way.
