Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine- What If

CLAIRE'S POV

"Please tell me that is not what I think it is" I frowned as Leon fired in the darkness, my skin crawling for some odd reason. The small ones could do enough damage, why the hell did spiders have to be enhanced by the virus?

"There is a small flashlight in my back pocket" Leon told me and I removed the item quickly, the creature being fired at. The spider hissed in pain, Leon turning to look at me as green blood stained the wall. Well that's just fucking nasty.

"There may be more of those things so we have to move fast" He told me and I held on to the flashlight which provided rather poor lighting. If there were more as Leon predicted they had better eyes and they could spot us before we could spot them with this dull flashlight.

I rolled my eyes just thinking about it.

"This place is giving me the creeps" I stated as Leon continued to guide me the moment we were in water. The water was at waist level so I raised my bag in order to prevent the contents of my bag from growing wet. I could feel the filth against my skin and Leon tightened his hold on me. He was the brave one and I was the one who wanted to survive the simplest ways possible.

"This entire city would give angone the creeps Claire" he told me and I almost stumbled over my own two feet. Leon was quick enough to catch me and all I could do was stare at what was floating next to me. I gagged, my fingers on my lips as I straighten up.

Oh God.

"Please tell me that's not someone's head" I begged as my stomach wall moved in pain. This was the horror film I would not be paid for.

"Just try not to look if it bothers you that much, we have to keep quiet" he told me as we approached a area filled with light. I turned the flashlight off but held onto the small item for 'the just in case'.

It was due to the light present that I realized that the water was green, heavily filled with debries and body parts. Leon realeased me the moment he was confident that I could stand on my own, his eyes scanning the area while mine did the very same. At this point I could feel the germs moving on my skin.

After our run with spiders in the dark who knows what else was down here. I gripped my bag tighter only for my eyes to narrow when I irregular movement in the water. In fact, it was almost like someone or something was breathing.

I swallowed. What the hell?

"Um Leon" I called and Leon turned to face me, two eyes floating above the surface of the water. His eyes widened in horror but he wasted no time in removing his gun only to fire rapidly.

"Claire get out!" He yelled and I ambled as quick as possible but when I turned around my eyes widen in horror. The creature was coming after me while my breath remained lodged in my dry throat.

Oh god.

"Shit!" Leon swore only to throw a piece of iron pipe at the creature.

"I'm over here! Come get me!" he yelled as he waved his arms dramatically and I took this as my chance to get up on the pavement. Leon was quick too and I reach my hand towards him in order to guide him up. The creature wasted no time in helping its self onto the pavement, Leon grabbing my hand as we ran for our lives.

The entire passage shook and there were instances where pieces of the building fell off. I struggled to run due to the pain in my stomach, Leon pulling me as though our lives depended on it. Well with an overgrown lizard behind us our lives really did depend on it.

When the creature growled behind us we spun around swiftly. There was a gas pan resting in the creatures mouth, the creature hissing in pain as it was now closed in by narrow walls. Leon took my hand as he moved back a bit and I followed his move when he lowered to his knees. The shot was fired, Leon covering my body with his and I closed my eyes when I could smell blood.

Leon and I were living on luck because if it was not for luck we would have been dead moments ago.

Leon loosened his hold on me and I turned around to face a destroyed Crocodile. Leon was on his feet and I remained on my back like a stuffed turkey. I shook my head as I stared at the pieces of the creature that remained. The fucking thing stinked.

How could someone unleash this on a entire city?

I took a deep breath as I took the hand Leon offered to me. He pulled me up only to stare behind me.

"We need to get to facility, we are close based on the map I found at the station" he told me and I nodded. If we ran into bigfoot I would not be surprised.

******

"You mean see dumped you?" I asked and Leon laughed at his own predicament. I ran my hands through my hair, I wish I could laugh about this entire mess the way he did.

"I didn't even get to the party where I got the job" he told me as he moved the warm clothes over my stomach. I squeezed his biceps and he pulled back a bit.

"Well that's a nasty breakup" I stated as I stared at his hand. He glanced at ne, specifically my stomach.

"Well that's a nasty wound" Leon mumbled as he stared at the red patches on my stomach. I moved my face in pain as he applied the ointment, my palm feelings cool against the metallic bed. I bared my teeth as I tried smiling.

"It is quite pitiful that the entire city crumbled to shit." I stated and I stared at my sneakers. Leon gazed up at me, his elbow resting on the bed when he pulled the chair closer.

"Thousands of lives lossed" he added.

"What if my brother is dead?" I asked and while the question came from my lips I was equally surprised. Leon searched my eyes, his hands being placed on his lap.

"You found his journal, have you started reading?" he asked and I stared at him.

"No" I replied and he half smiled at me.

"You will be here a while, start reading" he told me as he stood and I pulled my backpack closer, my brother's journal being removed. When I opened the book I could not help but touch the small piece of paper that indicated that a page had been ripped out.

I stared at for a while, maybe there was something that Chris regretted and it had to do with his job. I stared at Chris's awful penmanship, my brother really needed lessons.

I smiled when I came across my name and how he felt bad for the fight we had. My eyes burned as I brought two fingers to my lips, I will find you brother.
