And she was most afraid when she looked in the mirror and couldn't recognize her reflection....
Sebastian groaned, his grip tightening around the glass so hard he thought it was going to shatter in his hand. He watched as June laughed with a friend of his....a very close friend of his. That red dress made him realize that maybe he should've bargained for something more than an apology.
He watched her as she ran a hand through her long and glossy hair. It was always her signature styling--curly. Her hand slowly rested under her chin as she looked at Alexander like a teenager in love.
June tried to focus her gaze on Alexander's haunting eyes. She tried to look in love as much as possible. It's not like she didn't love him but maybe not in the way she wanted everyone to think of .
The ball's beat was dead. Around 150 people assembled in the red and black marble ball. The place was very cold . An enormous chandelier hung from the glass ceiling that gave a beautiful image of the dark sky. It looked like an oil painting . If it wasn't for sense she would think they were flying .
She took a sip of her champagne and moved her gaze to where Sebastian and his colleagues were standing along with Lydia.
It's alright, keep your cool, keep it, keep it . Like a mantra she repeated it to herself . He met her eyes and stared at her blankly. It got to him. And that's what she wanted.
She gave him a cold stare and continued talking with Alexander. " I bet you that their stocks won't go past 11% "
"No! It will barely cross 5 " Alexander argued, a smile spreading over his face. He just loved to talking to her. It gave him comfort. He was always comfortable around her . It was very hard to believe that Alexander Woods was finally smiling but here he is.
"You wish! I can see it. Lik-like-like it is my next meal?" They burst into laughter as June tried to find a good expression. "I'm sorry, I don't know what happened "
"What are you trying t-"
Someone tapped on his shoulder and his eyes glowed as he saw his high school friend .
"Man, where were you ?" He said as he hugged Sebastian . June closed her eyes and thought about it.
Oh no, he knows him?....this is bad
"June, this is Sebastian, my best friend. Sebastian, this is June, one of t-"
"One of the best lawyers in New York?" He blurted out. Alexander nodded and looked at June who smiled tightly. They shook hands but Sebastian held for a bit too long .
"Nice to meet you, Sebastian " he let go of her hand and commented about her look tonight .
"Thank you, bu-"
Someone called Alexander over and he excused himself. As soon as he left Sebastian asked, "Are you playing with Alexander now ?"
She smirked, "playing? I wouldn't rephrase it that way, you know, in the end Alexander is a handsome and successful young man and I wouldn't mind honestly having him you kn- "
"I can't believe how manipulative you can be, June"
She raised an eyebrow, what was he planning? "What do you want Sebastian ?"
"Wait and you'll see"
In a moment, the lights were turned off and the glass started displaying pictures of a woman and little girl. It looked like they were a mother and a her daughter. Different locations and years but the woman and her daughter's smiles never changed and then there was this photo where it looked like the daughter was alone and the smile was gone.
Tears stained June's cheek and the glass unknowingly fell from her hand. The glass shattered drawing everyone's attention to her. Whispers filled the hall.
"Oh lord, isn't this June's mother ?!"
"Oh yes, I remember the day-"
June looked nervously at all the faces that now she knew none of. She looked at Sebastian as she covered her mouth. She ran out the place as fast she can.
Alex ran behind her, "June, baby, stop!" . He caught her hand and brought her to his chest. "Shhh, it's alright, c'mere " . He stroked her hair and kissed her cheeks with all love.
"Come let me take you home "
She shook her head, "No, no, no, no, I don't wa-want to be al-alone " . She tightened her grip and pulled him closer and payed her head on his chest as continued sobbing.
"It's okay, it's okay, you're fine . Do you want me to take you to my place ?"
She nodded.
She stared at the ceiling silently . She felt like she wanted to cry and scream but all she felt was nothing. Numb to any pain.
She closed her eyes. She didn't want to open them. Just close them forever. No one would ever notice if she did anyway .
She laughed. She laughed so hard. No one would. She felt suddenly very lonely. So lonely.
"June, look, baby, you have to get some sleep. Alright, see I couldn't find anything your size, I mean obviously, but if you want you can wear one of my shirts " he said as he came into the room.
June nodded, she took the olive shirt from his hand and went into the bathroom. She changed and washed her face carelessly not bothering to remove any left makeup . The shirt reached just above her knees but she couldn't care less.
She got out and directly went to lay on the bed, not even covering herself . The bed was king size with silky black sheets. Alexander came into the room and looked at her. He went back to a drawer, brought some cotton rounds and some moisturizer.
"Close your eyes" he ordered as he sat on the side of the bed.
She obeyed. She felt him run the wet round over her face, removing any excess makeup. He disposed it and then used another one just to make sure everything is clean.
"You know this is not healthy, right ?" He said as he placed her legs under the cover and covered her. He went to the other side of the bed and took his pillow.
"What are you doing ?"
"I'm sleeping in the other room, I don't-"
"No! Stay here with me, please" she whispered as she patted on the other side of the bed.
Alexander slowly moved and laid next to her. She moved closer as he took her in . Could she sleep now ?
Hey, finally nother chap. Hope you enjoyed . What could have happened to June's mother. How bad could Sebastian still be ? What bout Alex, is he as good as he appears to be.
I'll see you in the next chapter,
Bye....
