Kris Mackwood
Kris opened the door to his bedroom with one hand, while the other held the bowl which contained the medicine that was supposed to be fed to Lan. He quietly closed the door behind him and looked at the angel who was peacefully sleeping on his bed. Lan looked like he was in a deep slumber, but his eyebrows were tightly knitted indicating that he was in pain, despite the sleep. Kris gently lifted up Lan's upper body and leaned it against his chest, giving Lan enough support to remain in the sitting position. Then he slowly brought the bowl he had kept on the bedside table to Lan's mouth and tilted it up a bit, allowing the mixture inside to flow into Lan's mouth.
After Kris finished feeding the whole mixture to Lan, he took a towel he had brought earlier and wiped his mouth. Kris gently lied Lan back in the bed and tucked the duvet around him in order to keep him warm. He went back to the kitchen and put the bowl in the dishwasher before he brought a chair and settled down near the bed, with his hand in Lan's hand. He felt exhausted after draining himself, he felt sleepy but before the sleep could overtake him Kris picked up Lan's mobile phone and sent a quick text to Ming saying that Lan would spend this night and a few more of the coming nights at Kris's place. But Ming was already asleep when this text reached him.
Kris rested his head on his arms near Lan, still sitting on the chair. He started to think about the things that happened in the past few hours. He found his mate, made a blood pact with him, got to know him, made out with him, was hunted by with him. Kris understood that now his life was entangled with Lan forever. He wanted to spend their lives happily without any trouble as normal people, but with what happened this evening he understood that his wish was impossible. He wondered who those wolves were, as long as his knowledge went wolves were people who looked out for others. 'Who were those wolves that were trying to hurt his Lan?' 'What did they want from his Lan?' with these questions revolving in his head Kris slipped into a deep sleep as his consciousness slowly gave in to the battle in resisting it.
Usually, vampires did not sleep, but the situation Kris was currently in was nowhere near normal. Usually, purebloods needed to feed on the blood serum once a month on the full moon when their senses are at their maximum limit. But Kris did not like the idea of consuming that black serum they used instead of blood since childhood. Vampires who had found their mates could feed on each other's blood like Mike and Leo did. Yes, Kris's twin had already found his mate and it was none other than his best friend's twin, Leo Roberts. Leo was also a doctor, so both of them worked together. Kris had found out long ago that if he used his abilities to the minimum, it would be enough to survive without the serum for six months.
Just before he was about to leave Canada, his six months were finished but he thought to have the serum after he lands in China, as he thought that the Chinese serum would taste different. It was the reason that he was not that surprised at the airport when he suddenly had the urge to drink blood. He simply thought it was because he had already passed his due date in consuming the serum. As he was busy going through the properties he had bought to resell, he could not find time to go 'serum shopping'. Kris was the same as a man who had starved for months and on top of the list, he had to drain his blood for the antidote to Lan. With all those on his shoulders, he was at a loss of strength, so what really happened was not, him falling asleep but him losing consciousness.
When Kris woke up, the sun had risen already. He took his mobile phone to check the time and was surprised to see that he had slept for two days straight. There were tons of messages and missed calls from Tyler and Mike. He typed a quick text to Tyler and Mike saying that he had broken his previous mobile phone and that he had just bought a new one and turned it on. It was the most believable lie he could come up at the moment. He silently thanked the gods for making Tyler busy with a big case, because he knew that if Tyler had free time in his hands he would have barged into Kris's house already.
Kris's mobile phone suddenly pinged indicating that he had received a text. It was from Tyler, 'Oh really, I was worried if you were hurt. Go to my house if you are lonely, Guo is home all evening.', It said. He kept away his mobile phone letting out a small sigh and giving himself a thumbs up for coming up with a lie that even the great detective Tyler Roberts believed without any further inquiries. Mike did not reply right away and Kris understood that he might be working. Kris inspected on Lan's wound and was relieved when he saw that the black vein cobweb pattern had reduced. Now only a small area around their mate symbol had the black vein pattern and it was also very faint, showing that the poison had almost worn off.
Kris felt happy, he was inwardly extra happy about falling asleep for two days straight because he had no idea how he could spend three days watching Lan sleeping. It was already evening so he went to the bathroom in order to take a long warm bath and change into something comfortable afterward. Before heading out Kris quickly inspected Lan's mobile phone to see if there were any calls or texts. There was only a text from Ming saying to enjoy his time with Kris. 'What an understanding friend', Kris thought as he kept the mobile phone back on the bedside table and dashed to the bathroom. He had spent the past two days sleeping in the suit that he was wearing when he went to meet Lan as he did not have time to change while aiding Lan that night. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, he looked like he had lost some weight overnight and pale. He gently removed the bandage around his wrist and saw that the wound was healed.
He went to the kitchen and prepared something to eat for himself. As Kris had stopped consuming the serum once a month, he had started to relay on normal food for the strength he needed for his day-to-day activities. Kris did not have a big appetite, so he made some porridge and went back to his chair near Lan's bed. He slowly ate the porridge enjoying the scene in front of him and after he finished he went back to the kitchen, cleaned the bowls and other objects he used before coming back to his chair. Lan was supposed to wake up in the morning the next day, so determined to busy himself until then, Kris started to read a book. But what he did for most of the time was stare at Lan's face admiring the beauty of his mate.
Now Lan looked healthier than two days ago, his cheeks had a hint of pink and his lips were red showing that he had a good blood circulation in him. Lan's face was oval-shaped. He had a sharp nose, plumped lips, sharp jawline, and a strong jaw. Kris wanted to taste those plump lips again, they tasted like mint chocolate to him. 'So, this is what love feels like', Kris thought as he ran his hand through the Lan's soft locks of hair. He gave a peck to Lan's lips and went back to his reading.
He was thinking of telling Tyler about what happened, but he was worried that if Tyler knew that their attackers were werewolves, Tyler would do something that he would regret later. Tyler was a good person, but sometimes he had the ability to work impulsively without proper reasonings when it came to his dear ones. Kris was also worried that if his father got to know about this, he will call off the peace treaty between the two races. Wolves were good people but there were some unhealed wounds on both vampires' and wolves' hearts which took place before the peace treaty, during the centuries-long war between them. And there were still some people who tried to break this peace between the two races for their own benefit. Although Kris's dad did not love him that much, he was still protective over him as the bond between vampire kids and parents were quite strong.
As Kris was thinking about all those things he did not notice the sun setting, the moon rising, moon setting, and sun rising again. His train of thoughts broke as he saw the sun rays come into the room through the two big windows in front of his bed. He had spent the whole night thinking about the things that happened, and he did not notice the time passing by. As Kris knew that Lan would wake up this morning he quickly kept away his book and rushed to the kitchen in order to prepare some hot porridge for Lan to have after he woke up. After he finished preparing the food he came back to his chair and waited for his mate to wake up. Kris had a lot of things in his mind to do with Lan after he woke up.
