3rd Person
The atmosphere in the parking lot was quite gloomy, Kris was still lying on the ground helplessly, calculating their chance of survival, while Lan's mom held Lan against her forcefully. Even though Kris could clearly see that the probability of escaping from this ritual was pretty slim, he still refused to give up. Deep down Kris knew that one of them was not going to walk out of this alive, as the schemer of this plan was Lan's mother he understood that the one that was going to die was him. Kris had never been afraid of death, but now he was afraid as if he dies, he will have to drag their babies with him. Whatever happened, Kris was not ready to let go of either his babies or his mate. Kris gathered all his inner strength and focused it on pushing vervain out of his bloodstream.
As the vampire inside Lan was not strong as Kris's, he easily pushed out vervain from his bloodstream. Even though he had gathered some of his senses, he did not show it to the woman who he once called 'mother'. At the moment he only had one option, it was to use his ability. Lan's ability was compelling, Lan could compel anyone that was in his eyesight. And at the moment the only person he wanted to compel was his own mother, she was still stroking his cheek while saying that she will fix him. Lan was raged, he did not need any fixing, he was happy with his angel and she was the one that was keeping him from feeling that happiness. Lan slightly tilted his head and looked at his mother's hand which held him in the waist.
Originally the compelling would be more effective if he looked at the eyes of the person he needed to compel, but he could not look at his mother in the eye, he was ashamed of dragging his angel into such a mess. What actually Lan did not know was, that his mom was waiting for him to compel her. Lan's mom or Yan's ability was rebounding, she had the ability to rebound any ability directed at her and use it on the original owner of the ability by simply kissing them. In simple words using an ability on her would be like giving her a gun, asking her to shoot you. Lan who was unaware of Yan's plan looked straightly at her hand and said,
"Let us go, and forget about us."
Kris watched in horror how Yan bent her head and kissed Lan on the lips, as Yan kissed him, Lan's eyes became blank as if he was hypnotized. Then Yan spoke in a seductive tone,
"Lan, you will do exactly as I order you and forget everyone you met in the past three weeks, as the sun rises."
Lan mechanically nodded his head, looking blankly at Kris while tears streamed down Kris's face. Kris felt as his world was crashing to the ground, he was going to be alone again, his Lan will forget him as the sun rose. Lan's words flashed inside Kris's mind again, 'Promise me that you will believe in my love for you', no, he was going to wait, even though his Lan forget about him tomorrow, his Lan will remember him someday, Kris was going to wait patiently till that day arrived. Yan finally focused her attention on Kris as Lan's matter was settled now. Seeing that he got Yan's attention, Kris spoke in a low tone,
"He is your son, how could you do this to us?"
"Do this to him?"
Yan scoffed and added.
"I am alright even if he sleeps with all the men in this city, but not you. First, your mom took away my love, so for that, I am going to tear you away from your love. After this ends you will be the only one to suffer, my Lan won't even remember someone like you exists."
Yan spat out these words at Kris with so much hatred, that if words could kill, Kris would already be buried six feet underneath the ground. After hearing the words that Yan said, Kris was literally shocked. Kris's mother was known throughout the vampire realm as a kindhearted lady, there was no way that she was able to hurt someone. Besides the only man she loved was Kris's father, 'Could this woman be in love with dad?', as crazy as this thought was, it was the bitter truth.
"You actually look a lot like her, you know. Only your eyes resemble him."
Yan said in a tone that Kris could not interpret, it was still harsh but there was a gentle undertone in it. However what Yan said was not a lie, Kris had indeed inherited the kind look of his mother and the sharp captivating eyes of his father. But Kris was still curious about how this woman knew so well about his parents. Kris wanted to make this woman realize that if this ritual happens, Lan will be the one to be sacrificed. Even though Kris did not want to think that way, he knew that the one that was going to die was not him. The power in Kris was more than Lan at the moment and the ritual takes the life of the weaker mate. He could not tell the lady that he was pregnant but he had to do something, so he spoke up,
"But it will kill one of us."
"Oh, you do not have to worry about that. I already know that if I use a normal ritual, one of you will die. And I'm sure if that's to happen, Lan will be the one to die. However you are a special creature, because of your unlimited love for Lan, your inner strength will protect both your physical bodies, while the ritual only takes a chosen soul. I have already compelled Lan, so he will not wish to give away his soul in your place. After your soul is gone, your physical body will preserve, and I will be able to harness the powers that you inherited from your mother."
Yan said letting out her evil laugh. Kris understood what Yan had said in the beginning, but he did not understand the latter part. Kris's mom was dead before he could even open his eyes and he was quite sure that he had not inherited any powers from her, but he had no way to prove it to this woman. Seeing Kris's clueless face, Yan smirked.
"Do you even know what you are?"
Yan asked Kris in a mocking tone.
"Wh.....What do you mean?"
Kris asked back, he had no idea what this woman meant by asking him if he knew what he was. Of course, he knew who he was, he was one of the pureblood vampires. That was it, no more and no less. Yan simply let out a laugh and said,
"My, my, David never gave you an explanation to Emily's death did he now? I guess he just blamed it on you, didn't he?"
Whatever it was, this statement did not make Kris understand anything, it simply made him more puzzled. Seeing that Kris did not understand a word she said, Yan started to explain again,
"You see, your mother was a quarternix. Quarternixes are a race that possesses the power of healing through their blood. They are mostly humans, and the child will inherit it from their mother, so they are all female. I still do not understand how you possess that power as a man. Their blood can cure any wound, only if the owner of the blood is willing, like when you wanted to cure Lan, as he consumed your blood his wound healed. As quarternix's speciality lies in blood, they are most haemophiliac, which is why your mother died in childbirth. It was not your or Mike's fault, it was just her nature to die in blood loss"
Kris felt relieved to know that he was not the direct reason for their mother's death, but the woman's next words made his blood run cold. She knew about Mike. Seeing the shock on Kris's face, Yan smirked before saying,
"Oh, I know about Mike, alright. I even know about the Roberts twins and that little Wei. Enough with the chit-chat now, let's start the real business. Bring that old man."
Kris was still digesting the woman's words while Yan ordered Min, who was standing in the shadows. Min simply bowed his head and pushed an old man from the shadows to the dimly lit parking lot. This was the same shaman that had given Kris the medicine he used to cure Lan. At that time the look he gave to Kris was a kind one, but the look he gave now was filled with pure hatred.
"You will pay for what you did fanger."
The old man muttered as he stepped out of the shadows, with his gaze piercing through Kris. Kris stared at the old man with expanded eyes, he could not understand why someone who helped him to unite with his mate, would betray them at the end. Without giving any time for Kris to think, the shaman started to chant some kind of a spell. As the shaman chanted, in every passing second, the paint stroke that connected the two circles in the array started to gradually fade away. Kris started to feel like his heart was being torn apart in his chest, he violently shook from the pain, as it grew stronger in every passing second. Lan on the other hand lied motionlessly on the ground with a blank look on his face.
The stroke between the circles was now barely visible, Kris was in great pain and he could feel even the babies reacting to his pain. But there was nothing he could do, he was completely helpless, lying on the cold ground staring at Lan's blank face. Lan still had no emotion on his face. For an instant, a small smile spread across Lan's lips as a blinding white light sprung out of Lan's body as the stroke that connected the circles finally disappeared. If Kris was not staring at Lan's face intently, he would have missed that smile, but he saw it, he saw his Lan's smile. As the light that sprung from Lan's body slowly faded, Kris only felt one feeling, 'emptiness'. Kris felt as he was missing his heart, but in reality, he had actually lost it, as the person who he had given it to, was now soulless. Yes, at the brink of fully breaking their mate's bond, Lan had broken out of the compelling. Lan had wished for his own soul to be taken instead of Kris's, the blinding white light that left his body was actually his soul and the last impression on his face was a satisfactory smile because he was finally able to save his angel.
