Wang Lan
The first feeling that Lan felt as he got back to his senses was, 'emptiness and loneliness'. It was like he could never be happy again like he was missing the most important thing in his life. Lan felt like he could never smile again, a mist of darkness was swallowing him, preventing him from seeing the light and going to 'him'. During all the time that Lan was asleep, he saw a figure, hovering above him, while Lan peacefully laid on that man's lap. A sweet intoxicating scent of vanilla emitted from that man, his voice was like honey to Lan's ears. Even though Lan could not clearly see the face of that man, he could see the piercing pair jet-black eyes of the man, that looked at him lovingly.
"My Lan, wake up."
The figure always whispered into Lan's ear, stroking his cheeks and kissing his forehead. As time passed the figure became more blurry, but for some reason as long as Lan laid on that man's lap, he felt warm and peaceful, like he was basked in love. But the darkness suffocated him, urging him to wake up from his dream and forget that sweet dream, forget the man that gave him an unlimited love. And that was exactly what happened.
Lan slowly opened his eyes, after one week of sleep. His body felt sour and his throat was dry.
"Angel,"
Lan whispered in a hoarse voice. He had no idea who this 'angel' was, but it was the only thing that came to his mind as soon as he woke up. It felt like his heart was yearning to see someone, but Lan himself had no idea who that person was. As Lan's eyes focused on the light, he took a good look at his surroundings. A girl, who he had no memory of, was sleeping beside him on a chair, while he was lying on a bed with a lot of machines attached to his body. As Lan looked at the white walls around him, he understood that he was in a hospital. He reached out his hand and shook the shoulder of the girl, who was sleeping on the chair. The girl jumped from the contact, but her eyes expanded seeing Lan awake. The girl suddenly hugged Lan, making him feel suffocated and uncomfortable.
"Babe, you are finally awake."
The girl screamed in a happy tone, but that tone made Lan uncomfortable and cringe. He wanted to ask this girl about her identity, but before he could open his mouth, the girl suddenly broke the hug and pulled him into a kiss. Lan successfully diverted his head to a side just in time, making the girl's lips land on his cheeks instead of his lips. Lan was a pervert, but not to the extent of kissing random girls. Actually, he was still saving his first kiss to his mate, he occasionally flirted with girls, but that did not go further than words.
"Excuse me miss, who are you?"
Lan asked from the girl, trying to be polite as much as he could because he had never liked such overreacting women, who acted like they would give their life for someone, while all they did was love themselves. The girl released Lan's face and looked at him, trying to act innocent and said,
"Babe, don't you remember? I'm your mate, Li Mian."
As the word mate reached Lan's ears, he felt a sudden pain in his head as a blurry image of a tall lean man with mesmerizing pair of jet-black eyes flashed in his mind. When Lan recovered back from his pain, he took a good look at the girl. She looked like a typical spoiled princess, who received everything with a flick of her fingers, all her life. And Lan as hell sure that such an arrogant person could never be his mate. The mate he had in his mind was a beautiful, kind, caring, and loving person, who would love him with all his or her heart. Lan did not care whether his mate was a girl or a boy, all he cared about was being loved. Lan had seen through the girl's innocent act when he first laid his eyes on her and he decided right that moment, that he did not want to have anything to do with this Li Mian, his so-called mate.
Lan wanted to be with someone who he felt comfortable with, so he asked the girl,
"Where is Ming?"
Lan was a hundred percent sure that his best friend was around, while he was sick. The look on Li Mian's face turned into a scowl as she answered in a bitter voice,
"Aunty Yan has prohibited him from visiting you."
Lan groaned as he heard this reply. He never understood why his mother hated his friend so much. He saw his mobile phone lying on the bedside table, so he stretched out his hand to grab it. As Lan's hand was about to touch his mobile phone, the door of his hospital room opened and Lan turned his head to look at the visitor.
"Lan dear, you are finally awake."
Yan said, while she ran to Lan and hugged him tightly. Tears were streaming down her cheeks, Yan was actually worried about his son, as her hatred to Kris was limitless, her love for her son was also limitless. Even though she wanted Lan to live a life she wanted, she did not want Lan to end up soulless or dead.
"It's alright mom, I am fine now."
Lan said, hugging back his mom. He loved this warmth, she was the only family member that made Lan feel loved. Lan's father had loved him when he was a child, but his father's love for him faded away as he turned into a man. Lan could never understand what he had done to make his father hate him that much. Unknown to Lan, tears gathered in his eyes as he felt a familiar warmth missing. It was like he had been covered in a protective warm blanket all this time, and now it was torn, leaving him to face the coldness, alone. Lan could not explain the things he felt, it felt so empty. He clung to his mother and poured out the emptiness he felt, through his overflowing tears.
Kris Mackwood
Kris slowly opened his eyes, as soon as his eyes opened, they searched for the pair of golden-brown eyes that he loved most on this world. But as his mind caught up with the events that happened while he was last awake, the truth sank into him, he was not going to see those eyes for a while again. Then Kris looked around his surroundings, he was not in his room, Mike was sitting on a chair beside him, holding his hand. Kris felt that his throat has gone dry, just by looking at his twin's eyes, he understood that the good news that he was so enthusiastic about sharing with everyone was already known by them.
"Mikey,"
Kris slowly whispered in a hoarse voice.
"Krissy, you are finally awake."
Mike said sobbing, while he pulled Kris into a bone-crushing bear hug. But he could not fully hug his brother as Kris's tummy was preventing them from fully touching each other's bodies. Kris hugged back Mike with a peaceful smile on his lips.
"I'm alright, Mikey. So please stop crying."
Kris said while he stroked Mike's back, soothing him. Mike broke the hug and wiped off the tears that streamed down his cheeks. Mike did not want to make his brother feel anymore sad. Kris smiled at Mike's act and asked,
"Has he woken up?"
Mike looked at Kris with guilty eyes, he knew very well about whom his brother was talking about, but he did not have an answer to that question. Mike looked down at Kris's hands and replied,
"Lan's mom has cut all our communications with him. We only get news from Theo, because Ty meets him at work. We need to stay until Ty is home."
Kris patiently listened as Mike explained the current situation. He knew that Yan would make sure to erase all his traces from Lan's life, but Lan been alive was enough for Kris to hold on and carry on his life. He knew that his Lan will remember him one day and come back to him. He just needed to wait patiently till that day came, Kris took a deep breath and looked out the window that showed the front yard and the road. He believed in his Lan's love for him, so all he needed to do was wait, wait for his Lan to comeback. Kris felt tired and he knew the reason, it was because babies were draining his strength. He did not feel any anger towards the woman who caused his life to fall into such a misery, but he was curious about why that woman did this to him. He pushed aside those thoughts and stroked his tummy lovingly.
"Boys, let's wait for your daddy to come back, ok? I am sure he will come back. Let's get through this together, just remember mommy and daddy love both of you so much."
Kris whispered, looking outside the window, at the road, while he drifted back to sleep.
