The phone rang once again.
To pick it up or not to pick it up, it was such a hard choice. I was debating not to pick it up and embarrassed myself again. But It was not polite to leave him hanging. Besides, if I did, he wouldn't be the kind of guy who would back down.
Because the phone kept ringing for 5 minutes.
I was going to pick it up when I heard the door of my room opened.
"Nana? Is that your phone that has been ringing?" I heard dad asked, and I nod my head.
"Will you please pick it up, I don't think I can handle another ringing sounds." He asked, and I apologize, hearing the door closed, the phone started to ring once again, and this time I picked it up.
"Anaya Moore, I can't believe you just left me hanging for 7 minutes," I heard his gasp," you weren't talking to another man, were you?"
I can only roll my eyes in my head at his teasing, and it was getting a bit childish. But I don't back down from it either.
"Well, I need to make time for all of my man, I might even have to squeeze in our schedule for lunch Mr White," I tease a bit as I heard him laugh.
"Well, all be it, I didn't think you'll be playing too Anaya Moore, I have no words," he laughs, oh, but I was not playing. I didn't know where I get this confidence from, but I like it. It's not the usual me.
But a nice change wouldn't hurt, right? Or I'm just trying to pry off the embarrassing thing that had happened a few minutes ago. Liz told me I was a good distracter, don't know if I should be proud of it. But it does come in useful.
I couldn't help to laugh a bit as I muster up a serious tone," and who said I was joking?"
The laugh from the other line suddenly went quiet, did I go too far?
I was about to reply to him went the phone started making noise, it looks like he was changing his position," Anaya Moore, please tell me you're joking right now."
"Well, what do you think?" I laugh," I'm disappointed that you thought I might have to fit you into a schedule like anyone would like to go out with me. I'm a free woman."
"So if that's the case, are you willing to accompany me every week then?"
What? I don't think I heard that clearly, what did Nicholas want?
"Oh,… with your friends?"
"No Anaya Moore, just the two of us and –" he paused –" I didn't mean it that way, this is a friendly outing… unless you want to call it adat-"
"No! I think I like the word friendly outing."
"Yes, friendly outing, so how's your schedule, Ms Moore?"
"How about this Friday? I think I can fit you inside the schedule for 2 p.m ?"
I heard him chuckles at my teasings," Well, I'm honoured to be in your list, and yes, I think at 2 will be great, where are you planning to go, Ms Anaya Moore?"
I thought of a place, and I wonder, is it alright for me to even request a place?
"Uh… I don't know where but I think a coffee shop or maybe Mcdonnals or we could go a diner I heard downtown, but that's too far and – hello?"
I was rambling to the point I didn't realise Nicholas was talking, was he not impress? Was Mcdonnell not a perfect place for a hangout? Am I too cheap and –
"Anaya Moore, are thinking again?" I heard the phone started to speak again.
"Nic, I'm sorry, I didn't think through, I guess Mcdonnell wasn't the type of people like you to hang out and –"
"Woah...Woah, there you should stop over-thinking about stuff Anaya Moore, what's wrong with McDonald's?"
I started to fumbled with my shirt, "Maybe… because Mcdonald might not be your 'go-to place'? Do you prefer something more? I'm sorry it's just I- I've never done this, and you're really out of my league and –"
"Anaya Moore, First of all, It's okay, alright? I think Mcdonnals are a great place, what kind of a person am I to deny greasy burgers and fries and I'm sorry I was not replying I was just too astonished at your choice, I was the one who was expecting a fancy place and hear you say, McDonald, I think you just won my heart." My cheeks were burning red at the last sentence he had said.
Stop Anaya. He's just saying that for this occasion, not a double meaning.
"Anaya, please I'm just a normal human who enjoys greasy burgers so yes, I'm glad you choose something like Mcdonnals, But I was hoping I could bring you to a place and you said a coffee shop, will that be okay?" he laughs, and I smile unconsciously.
"Yeah… that should be good, but I like greasy burgers too…" and I heard his chuckles.
"I know… but I need to make a good impression for you," he laughs," What kind of a man am I bringing a friend on a friendly outing at Mcdonald for the first impression, who would appreciate that?"
I do, I appreciate going to Mcdonnals, and if I were going with you, I would love to spend the next hour stuck at Mcdonnals.
"Right I do appreciate it, so…"
"So…"
"I'll see you Anaya Moore and can you tell me your house address?"
"Why?"
"Chill, don't get defensive I'm going to pick you up! Don't want you getting lost there."
I scoff at him and playfully scold him," Hey! I'm capable, just because I can't see."
"I know, but I wouldn't forgive myself knowing that I can give you a ride and I asked you to walk, so whether you like it or not I'm picking you up!" he sing-songs and tease back.
" I-"
"Anaya Moore…"
I groan, and I told him my house, and he thanked me as he told me he was going to pick me up that day. We said our goodbyes since the call was cut as his mother called him.
There it goes back, the weird feeling in my stomach as I try to remember the conversation. It was something.
I guess I'm going to have a friendly outing with Nicholas White on Friday. That night I couldn't sleep at all as I smile all night long, was this a dream come true…
