Joaquin felt uncomfortable, Ains's presence near him was starting to make him super aware of his surroundings. Although he was always concentrating and paying attention to everything, today it was even more prominent.
He saw every single button in the elevator, and he hadn't noticed this before but after they are pushed the numbers become of runes and start glowing. The elevator was powered by magic, more specifically, the magic of the person using it. And if the person using it didn't have any magic, the runes on the buttons were responsible for moving it.
'I need to purchase books on the relationship between mana storage and motion runes when we get back.' Joaquin thought to himself as they left the elevator. Although not perfect Joaquin had an excellent memory, because of this, he was very good at the practice of alchemy.
After finally reaching his house he noticed a package down in front of the door. He picked it up and caught a glimpse of the words, "sorry about the door." He immediately knew who it came from and thought, 'pathetic.'
He gripped the door handle tightly and braced himself as he looked behind him.
"Why are you still here?
Ains tilted her head and pressed lightly on her lower lip, "Ains doesn't have a place to stay."
"And you thought I was taking strays?"
"You have puppies!?" Ains exclaimed in a high pitched voice which attracted all of the boys outside.
"Oh cool, Alder brought a girl back to the dorms."
"Lame, it's probably an arranged marriage."
"You're just jealous virgin breath."
"Say that again and I'll..."
"You'll what?"
What started as taunts to Joaquin ended up a crowd of insults but a fight never broke out.
By the time they decided to recognize a common enemy Joaquin had already dragged Ains inside and slammed the door behind them. Inside the house, Joaqui slammed Ains against the door and growled at her.
"Bop," Ains said as she poked Joaquin's nose.
He sighed and dragged his hand across his face, "I'm so exhausted and I don't even know why."
"Papa told Ains never to get exhausted unless fighting for the glory of the motherland. Even then Ains should persevere."
"Sounds like your papa is one hell of a soldier," Joaquin said as he looked at Ains from between his fingers as his hands were still on his face.
Ains nodded rapidly.
"I wonder what he would do if kill you invading my privacy."
"Oh no," Ains shook her head. Her voice had no hint of worry and sounded like she was belittling Joaquin. "Master can't hurt Ains and Papa will flatten the school alongside master's kingdom."
'Why isn't she saying sike?' Joaquin thought as he blinked rapidly, what surprised him more was the fact that her face still looked oblivious to the fact that she just threatened to wipe out Joaquin's people.
"What's your name?"
"Ains..."
"Your real name."
She panicked.
"Ains is Ains, Ains isn't lying."
'So in order to keep her from forgetting her fake name, they made her talk like that? Must be some huge kingdom she comes from. I'll look into it in my spare time, but for now...' Joaquin glared at her for a few seconds before turning to go and settle down. He pounced on to his bed and drifted back into his head.
'GHOST! GHOST!' He screamed and called out to the smoke ghost. Pausing after every call to curse for not knowing his name. He then started talking to himself, 'why is this place so scary?' Joaquin noticed that unlike last time his mind today was filled with a lot of stuff and what scared him the most was the only colored object around. 'Should I be worried about my mental health?'
Immediatly when he thought that the smoke ghost emerged from nothing, it was wearing beach pants and or rather they were floating on him. He had a pair of silver shades and a flower lei. He was smiling and having the time of his life, or at least he was until he saw Joaquin.
[Whoa, what happened to you?]
'Explain this!' Joaquin threw the grimoire at the smoke ghost.
[Mhm, mhm. I see. So you a new skill, so what seems to be the problem?] The ghost said trying its hardest to swallow its laughter.
Joaquin did the rapid blinking thing before calming himself down again, 'give me back the damn book.' The grimoire appeared in his hand and he opened it.

'Well at least you're good for something.' Joaquin left the mind dimension and woke up to Ains sleeping next to him.
She still had her eyes open though and she looked terrified, "Master, there is a monster in your house."
'Why did I just doze off with an imposter in my house?' Joaquin ignored her and thought to himself.
"Master...."
Just then, a huge growl filled the room and Joaquin jumped off the bed cursing. "SHIT!"
"Kyaaa," Ains screamed as she followed him. She fell on top of him and buried her face in his chest. The growling started again and this time Joaquin felt Ains's stomach move a little. He blinked rapidly and later on he took her to the cafeteria.
