Chapter 15 - The Negotiator

Joaquin stared at Ains tear through serving after serving without stopping to take a breath. At first, he thought about getting her some ramen or something smaller, after looking at her figure he thought she didn't eat that much to ensure that she kept it.

After she devoured their first two orders, he then remembered that this girl was unlike any other and he was pissed. His eyes were red and shiny but he couldn't lash out or stop her, despite his eyes being plastered on her his mind was elsewhere.

'Somebody owes me half a million tokens, why am I even babysitting her? Why hasn't she left? Does she like being kicked around? What the hell is wrong with her? How did she get into this school in the first place? She is even worse than Ruben when we were kids?'

"Master, is there something on Ains's face?" Ains asked with a mouth full bread.

"My money!" Joaquin replied abruptly and shifted to lean back on his chair.

Every eye in the cafeteria was on them, and today it was because Joaquin stubbornly found himself a comfortable seat on the S class side of the hall. They were whispering about the sudden appearance of the girl wearing his lab coat and school pants.

This was done so that Joaquin exploit the shock meter by exposing the huge hole in its mechanics and get back at the ghost. After leveling up to level 10 without even doing any kind of work. The smoke ghost got enraged by Joaquin and stripped him off of his levels in exchange for a new skill, title, and a new feature called skill points.

Although this was also a moment of triumph, Joaquin couldn't bring himself into enjoying his success while Ains was still in front of him chomping away happily at his expense. As soon as Ains finished the last dish, Joaqui stood up and walked towards the door.

Ains not wanting to be left behind had to get up and chase him, she tried calling for him but her mouth was full. Again the other students followed them out of the cafeteria with their gazes, some even physically to confirm if those two really lived in the same dorm. It wasn't unheard of, but it was Joaquin. Yes, he looks good, but he is also cold and every time you see him talking there is always something wrong. Being attractive still didn't excuse him from the hate he got for his being.

When they got to the house Ains immediately made herself comfortable on the bed but Joaquin had other things to do.

After seeing his endurance which he had previously ignored before, Joaquin started to remember those times everyone in the castle used to think they knew a way of getting him an ability.

He cursed with a whisper and turned the page to examine each labeled detail, first of all, was his new title, "Puzzle noob."

[Title: Puzzle noob

Description:

Gives the user an edge over tricky situations, i.e illusions, puzzles, foreign languages, and riddles.]

"In all my life I've never seen anything more useless than this title right here."

[Aren't you a bit too harsh on me? You'll never know when you'll need a brain boost.]

"I've been fine all my life without one, in fact having this title might even be a set back for me."

[A bit too cruel now aren't we?]

"Can you even describe that word? Hand me that package."

Joaquin pointed at the box he had gotten earlier and the smoke ghost complied with most of the command until halfway through he noticed something. He let the box drop to the ground.

[Freaking bastard, I'm your master. I shouldn't be doing errands for you. Do you know how embarrassing…]

"I still don't see my package on my hands."

[Oh okay.] He got the package and started floating back to Joaquin. [As I was saying, I shouldn't be running around doing errands for you. Do you know how embarrassed I will be if the other grandmasters…]

"Pen," Joaquin said as he received the package from the smoke ghost.

[Oh, okay] It flew across the room and came back with an electronic pen. Joaquin took it and signed the box and it opened. All while the ghost was talking about his dignity.

He made sure not to let it feel guilty though, he kept on nodding and saying, "damn that's crazy." As he went through the contents Ruben had gotten for him, as soon as he grabbed the first item which was a pair of gloves the book made another ping.

He grabbed it and opened to find information on the gloves.

[Item Name: Mana replication gloves

Level: Bronze

They are made with a special rock and runes whose compatibility together allows it to convert huge amounts of energy and turn into mana. It can only be used to power a few small scale spells at a time.]

'He got ripped off again, and he probably spent a lot of money on them too.' Joaquin thought as he put the gloves aside. 'I'll power them up later, he should've at least gotten me some mana stones too.'

Just as he predicted, the next item Joaquin pulled from the box was a bag full of mana stones.

[Item Name: Mana stones

Level: Stone

MP:10 (each)

Item created when a monster is destroyed and its core along with the corpse is transmuted together. These one come from lower-level goblins.]

'It's not much but it can upgrade those gloves into something useful.' He thought so as he turned to look by the tv and saw other gloves of similar nature all grouped into one box. 'He really is an idiot.'

[ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?] The smoke ghost screamed so hard into Joaquin's ear he was attacked by the book.
