Chapter 8 - Skeletons (1)

Noah woke up, he stretched his legs and hit the wall. He got out of the cramped room, and stretched his back. He heard a few knots loosen, "a new day, a new me", he thought. He headed out of the inn and towards the adventure hall, ready to accept a new quest

He opened the wooden door, there were multiple adventurers standing in front of the quest board, picking out their quests. Some quests were longer than others, some of the adventurers hadn't finished yesterday's quest or the day before that.

On his way to the quest board he got stopped by a familiar voice, it was ferro "eyy, I want that favour", "What?" Noah replied with more aggression than he intended. "Join us on a quest, you'll get your own share."

Behind Ferro stood three other adventurers, a boy dressed in a robe holding a small staff, a girl with a bow, and a boy with a longsword. Everyone in the group had tid bits of armour and their weapons looked sharp and clean.

Noah glanced down onto his own rusty and dull sword, Ferro saw this. "Sure, I'll join but what what type of quest is it?", "Some alchemist is in need of living skeleton bones for some sort of potion and we know exactly where to find it."

"Ferro are you sure we need him, seems pretty weak" the archer said, in response Ferro gave a deadly stare. He didn't like being questioned. Since Noah had agreed they set out towards the forest.

They were walking on a dirt road through a lush forest with the random birds tweet thrown in there. Noah thought about his skill points. He had spent so much in agility and did feel himself being quicker but it felt very miniscule.

He also remembered that he never read up on the two new skills he had gotten, "stats" he whispered. The window popped up in front of him, visible to only him.

Now the memory he the memory of the person stealing the slave away from him made more sense. The reason he found it harder to focus on him was because his stealth must of been a high level, Noah questioned just how strong that person was.

He felt an urge to become stronger, today he would push himself.

They had travelled for three hours now and Noah saw it. In the distance, there was ruins, around the ruins stood multiple skeleton guards, they looked half asleep, moving randomly.

They were of average height and each one had a pulsating crystal beneath their ribcage.

They all had uncomplete armour sets and broken swords. Noah had never versed a skeleton before, fighting monsters was a new experience for him.

He had heard rumours though, from more experienced adventurers. The only way to kill a skeleton was through destroying the shining core. And even though they had no mouth, ear, or eyes, they could experience every sense a human could.

There were different tiers to it, the lowest of the skeletons were dumber than rats, but the highest were equal if not smarter than humans. Noah had heard myths about liches, they were incredibly powerful mages.

The ruins were incredibly large, and Noah noticed that they weren't the only party here. All around him he could see small parties fighting against the skeletons. He was eager to fight as well, he felt pumped.

Ferro told them to take up their guards as they would engage in a battle with the closes skeletons. There was five skeletons standing a few meters away, the second they noticed them they ran towards them.

Noah heard the rattling of the armour, he held his sword in his hands ready to strike them. Apparently the staff wielder was a mage, which would be neat to have in case someone got hurt.

Ferro charged towards the skeletons ready to kill it with his hands. Before Ferro could reach the skeletons the archer fired an arrow, the arrow flew straight into one of the skeletons heads. The head got detached and fell of the body, then the skeleton lost its balance and fell on the floor.

The other warrior in the party ran forward, he wanted to swing his sword a bit aswell, Noah followed closely behind having the same thought. Ferro swung his sword towards the skeletons cleaving three of them in half and destroying their crystals. He had strength. "Buyaa" he shouted.

The last one rushed mindlessly towards Ferro, Noah was there and pierced it in the crystal killing it instantly, not that Ferro was in any danger. "Holy, these skeletons were weak" Ferro remarked.

On the floor were 4 bones, Ferro picked them up and put them in his bag. "How about we split up, the healer with me, Jackson(the warrior) you go with Ella, and Noah", Ferro said, "You go alone", "great" Noah said. "We meet back here when the sun is about to set" Ferro said.

Noah was quite pleased that he got to go alone, he would get more chances to practice.

Noah was crouched in a bush slowly moving through it, wind blowing in his ear. His sight was set upon two skeletons. They stood there half asleep, one looking right at him and the other one had his back turned towards him.

His target was the one with his back turned towards him. He got to the edge of the tree line before bursting into a silent run towards the skeleton, the skeleton turned towards him, saw him and raised his sword.

Seeing this the other skeleton raised his mace but it was too late, Noah had stabbed him in the back piercing his crystal, he and his bone weapon disintegrated into nothing leaving a bone of the floor.

'Backstab has levelled up'

'level up'

The second skeleton rushed towards Noah, he parried the attack, the skeleton swung again and he parried it. Noah kept on parrying the skeleton until he'd gotten bored of it, the purpose was to practice.

He didn't have a bag, so he didn't know what to do with the bones, but he didn't want to leave possible coin on the floor.

By now he had been surfacing the outside of the ruins for at least two hours killing weaklings, he wanted to step it up and go inside of the ruins but before he did that. He mumbled "stats" and put in his point into agility raising it to 18.

'milestone has been reached'

'Skill "swift" has been gained'

'User has choice between two skills, "Alluded attack", "back track"'
