As the week went by the huntsman's visits got more frequent. They captured a wide variety of species. Miku and I were packing what we could to leave. Everyone was getting ready to leave the area. The huntings happening more often was not a good sign.
"Miku, do you have everything?"
"Almost. Now I just need Mr. Stuffingtons."
"Ok. Once you change into your wolf form don't leave my side. Got it?"
"Yes, sis, I got it. They aren't going to catch us, are they?"
"I really hope not, kid."
We put our bags on our backs before shifting so they would stay, and Miku held his stuffed rabbit in his mouth. I pawed open the door and lead the first step into the night.
"It's cold.."
"I'm sorry. I can't do anything about it though. Now try to stay quiet."
"Are they the ones who killed Mama and Papa?" He whimpered. I froze. I didn't want to think of that possibility.
"I-I really don't know."
At least after that he was finally quiet. We continued our trip for some time. I was told as a cub if the men ever came back that there was an old lady who lived at the other end of the woods. She could take care of us, but because she is older, not to be too much of a bother. Because of that last detail, we stayed put after being orphaned. We could have went, but it would be a bother. An old woman shouldn't have to help take care of a newborn, let alone someone else's.
When we got there it was sunrise. The old woman was out in her garden.
"Ah, hello little doggies. Are you lost?" She called. I shifted after signalling for my brother to stay put.
"No, mam. I don't think so at least. Are you the woman my parents spoke of? Did you know Kira and Raven?"
"Such odd names, but yes I did. Why does it have to be past tense? What happened to them?"
"They died. They died years ago. I'm sorry you were never told."
"By gods, dead? Oh deary, come inside. Your brother should come in too."
"Thank you mam."
"Call me Granny, please. Far less formal."
"Okay...Granny."
We unpacked our things in a spare room. Her cottage was quite adorable. Seemed so small on the outside, but large on the inside. The outside was white and pastel pink, with a white picket fence around a little garden. The garden was mostly flowers, of many different colors. Her paths to her house were stones. There were gaps between each stone and Miku would try to avoid them at all costs. I wished we could live here even after the men leave the forest.
